I think Williams has been slipping for the past decade or so. I thought most of the music in the prequels was disappointing, outside of a few iconic themes (Across the Stars and Duel of the Heroes). Phantom Menace had music only topped by Empire, though. I can forgive Williams, though. He's been composing soundtracks forever so I feel it's ok to be creatively tapped at this point.

I'm not sold on Abrams, tbh, and my suspicion that TFA is a rehash is pretty-much confirmed, BUT it would've been cool if he got Michael Gicciano in on this. Just from his Medal of Honor soundtrack, he would've been a great replacement.

BTW, it is so funny that that is considered a spoiler, since this is something I've known for 32 years but...lots of new folks watching the OT for the first time. hehehehe

It's not that the soundtrack was bad, so much as nothing stands out. It's serviceable.

By way of example, the Star Wars theme, the Imperial March, Duel of the Fates are all iconic pieces of music that stand on their own.

Aside from the reused themes, I couldn't recall any of the soundtrack from the film I just saw. None of the tracks get burned into your memory like that.

I mean, you think of Darth Vader and you immediately associate him with the Imperial March. You think of Darth Maul and you immediately associate him with DotF. You think of Kylo Ren and no theme pops into your head.

Yeah thats me definitely out of here, almost exactly 24 hours until I see the movie, I don't even want to think about clicking that spoiler. I hope you all enjoy the movie! :D

Not saying you're wrong. But you walked out of the theater about an hour ago. We should see if this still holds after a few viewing and some time.

There will be a review there, there is a spoiler thread, I do not want to rely on anyone else's opinion of what a minor spoiler is.

In all honesty that minor spoiler makes me think I'm gonna enjoy this movie a lot even with the flaws mentioned in that review.

O no! You watched the "specialized" version...you poor, poor soul. In the original version instead of that he
remains quiet. No sound at all, then picks up the emperor and tosses him. Makes it a lot more powerful imo
also if you watched the specialized version of episode IV...
Han shot first originally, they edited it so Greedo shoots then Han shoots back

That review praised the cast, particularly Daisy Ridley. This seems to be pretty common word from the tweets we have seen so far. Am hyped for Ms. Rey.

Yeah I agree. It would be ideal if this thread were specifically for speculation and vague impressions. True reviews, plot details (of any magnitude) not shown in trailers, and plot discussion is more ideal for the spoiler thread.

Oh wait, I forgot it's the Internet and there really is no controlling this chaos. Uh oh

More or less my opinion. The most iconic Williams tracks (2000 onwards) are the themes for Catch Me If You Can, AI and Harry Potter. But as of late, he became replaceable.

Not sure whats the case here, mind you, haven't listened to it yet.

Exactly 12 hours left.

I were never that into Star Wars but I do enjoy the movies and universe. It is mainly Rey, Finn and partly Poe that makes me hyped for the new one. I can't wait to see them act out. I'm also slightly interested in what's up with Luke.

Any plans for more streams or community events from Disney, Lucasfilm, or elsewhere? The premiere was nice and all but a more fan focused deal pre-release would be nice to see, maybe something with trivia, merch giveaways etc.

I guess I just want free merch :p

Year-end holiday advance ticket sales for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens have crossed $100 million in North America, an unheard of number, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

That includes $50 million-$60 million in advance ticket sales for the film's opening weekend.

The previous record-holder for advance ticket sales was The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 with $25 million. Sources say Force Awakens sales could even be north of $120 million.

On Tuesday, online ticketing service Fandango reported that Force Awakens has become the company's top selling title in the company's 15 year history in terms of advance ticket sales, outpacing such record-setters as Avengers: Age of Ultron and this summer's Jurassic World, which debuted to a historic $208.8 million domestically.

MovieTickets.com also reports record advance ticket sales, saying Force Awakens has sold more than double the number that Age of Ultron did and 20 percent more than Jurassic World.

Tracking services suggest Force Awakens will debut in the $180 million-$220 million range in North America.

Give him a break, he is 83. If he can still be relevant in his 70s and 80s, then he's clearly doing something right.

Had to cancel my tickets for opening night. Last minute work trip to the UK calls.

I'll try to see it next week (still don't know when I'm coming back), but sucks sincr I've been waiting for years...


But also, an extra 2 week paycheck will fund a couple of extra trips to watch TFA :p
