Those videos and screens look damn good.

Does this game have dumb big swords like Monster Hunter's greatswords or Dark Souls' ultra greatswords?

The preorder is supposed to go up on Steam with full details today.

I would love by some miracle for console progress to carry over. I want to play this on PC, but not from scratch. Don't have the time.

Has any PC game ever been able to read console saves? I know there's some stuff people have done with 360 saves in the past, but I thought that was all in the realm of modding.

Even though I really like using magic and stuff, I rarely play as a Sorcerer because I'm more into close combat with swords etc. but this does looks great and tempting to play as a Sorcerer in one of my playthrough in the future.

I was pretty much the same. I disliked sitting still channelling spells (better later when you can shortcut by joining pawns' channel). That said, Magick Archer is a fantastic in-between. Magic bow with pretty good dagger skills. Mystic Knight was fantastic too. Standing in your sigil while launching magic projectiles and magical counters. :D

Warrior uses 2H weapons, mostly swords. I don't really remember if they're particularily large, I know the basic ones are like "realistic" greatswords and stuff, so they're like very long but not very wide.

One class, the Warrior, is essentially based on using dumb big swords and hammers. The crazier ones are like this:

I like the useless cast light spell of the Magic Archer but the last few skills you get as a standard Ranger are killer. The one that launches your arrow and you can control it just wipes entire boss bars off even on hard.

I was so happy when I discovered how useful Great Gamble can be with a Ranger pawn. They just need a lot of large mushrooms/stamina replenishment and a Utilitarian inclination and they'll be destroying bosses all day long.

I don't think so other than maybe GTAV, which I think used Rockstar's site to carry over progress. But there's no third-party account system for this.

I guess it's possible their online system may have been able to record player stats along with pawn info, but it's very unlikely, again, because data is not handled through a third-party account system.

^ Hahahaha very good

Really looking forward to this, been a while since I've bought a game "at launch". Wonder what the price will be, even if it's €60 I'll pay... Take my money, naow!

Sweet. I know what class I'll be trying out first then!

It's gonna be €30.

Depends on the game, but due to some of the ports being really basic, yeah, actually (this doesn't look like a basic port though, from all the work that seems to have been put in). Still, give the game a month and I'm sure tables or mods will emerge that let you make your dream character in an hour or so. That's about how long it took for Dark Souls anyway and the sales are roughly comparable from reporting on consoles.

I never did Bitterback Isle. As soon as I started it, Death showed up in like the second room and I noped out of there. I did everything in the main game except Tainted Mountain. Can't fucking wait to jump back in at 60fps or better. Assassin and Magic Archer 4 life.

Edit: I never bought Gutts' or Griffith's armor sets either. I am fucking buying those ASAP

One thing I'm curious about: how does the PC version handle multiple characters? Is it just a simple save system? I know the previous versions tied the characters to accounts and in order to have multiple characters I was creating multiple PS3 profiles. Don't want to do that again.

Oh, I do hope they have something set up. I really want to be able to juggle multiple characters with ease.

I think that recent Grandia 2 port just straight up worked with your old Dreamcast saves, if you happened to have one.

And if I remember right, some (most?) Bethesda open world games used the same save format on 360 and PC, but they were packed differently. So to transfer your save from 360 to PC you'd have to use some external tools to unpack the 360 save into the pc format.

Or something like that. Never did it myself so I'm a but hazy on the details.

Is this anything like Dark Souls? Absolutely hated that game, overtly hard because of poor mechanics.

So in other words, you couldn't beat it and blamed the game design?

Those videos look fantastic! The IQ doesn't seem that different from the console versions, but the improved resolution and post processing effects add an incredible amount of eye candy.

Wut?

and nah it's not like DS.

I found the controls and hitboxes to be archaic by design.

I know I'm in the minority.

There's big difficulty spikes with bandits early on, but only early on. After that you'll probably be wishing for stronger foes. Endgame and Dark Arisen content deliver on that later.

Thanks.

lol ok kid

Go fuck yourself.

In this way, this game is the opposite of Dark Souls.

Thanks.

yeah could have used some more QTEs, and like, perks

I didn't mean it like that at all. As a newcomer to that style of game I found it incredibly frustrating, I quit after a few hours.

So in other words, you couldn't beat it and blamed the game design?

See above, the game literally throws you in with zero explanation. I kept dying to the very first troll that was in the river, 5 minutes into the game.

You do know all of that was intentional, right? Dark Souls is an homage to games of the past that made you overcome the mechanics or else you would fail.

should make a thread, I'm curious but obviously it's off-topic in here

Probably my biggest concern. I didn't get far into it on PS3 because the game was a disaster technically but now that I can finally play it hearing warrior is the most boring class makes me feel bad tbh.

The only thing boring about the Warrior is being limited to 3 skills; but even with that limitation, I feel the moveset is comparable to what you find in Bloodborne.

They're fine to use in the main game, where there is only one enemy that they cannot defeat (metal golem); but they are the worst vocation to use in Bitterblack Isle.

So in other words, you couldn't beat it and blamed the game design?

Dark Souls has some serious delay when it comes to pressing a button > seeing the action performed. Even Bloodborne has it, and even though it's better, I can press O to backstep, release the controller and give the screen a thumbs up just as my character starts to perform the animation.

Additionally, the SoulsBorne series typically locks you into attack animations (which I fucking hate), whereas in Dragon's Dogma, you can cancel out of practically anything you're doing and change your mind -- you know, like an actual person can and does do. ;)

Another big difference is that Dragon's Dogma lets you save anywhere, as long as you are not in the midst of an active battle.

Some classes also have an ability in DD whose specific purpose is to cancel/stop any animation in its tracks.

This makes me wish I had a gaming pc. Unfortunately that is not an option for me at the moment.
You probably... almost certainly, don't need a gaming PC to make this game run. The MT Engine is highly optimized and I'm pretty sure this will run on even pretty old PCs.

What are your specs?

Cross post from the Steam thread:-

Oooooooohhh Dragon's Dogma preorder goodies!
DDDA-Steam-PreOrder.jpg

As an owner of the Udon Design Works (which is what that cover is from) it's a bit more than an art book. Like an almost 400 page design document so I doubt that is it and will probably be a compilation of sort from that like they did for RE4.
Scratch that it bloody well is!
Pre-order now to receive the following:

Digital art book – A complete replica of the Dragon’s Dogma Official Design Works. Over 300 pages of content after content that chronicles the development artwork behind this expansive setting including characters, lore, creatures, and weapon designs, plus rough sketches, key visuals, and plenty of creator commentary. A must-read for any Dragon’s Dogma fan! (Print edition also available on Amazon at $44.99)

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen Masterworks Collection - the awe-inspiring digital soundtrack contains 53 songs including a handful of alternate versions not included in the game. The 2+ hour soundtrack has been reauthored from the original source material, and the pre-purchase bonus includes both MP3 (320Kbps/16-bit/48KHz) and FLAC (24-bit/48KHz) lossless formats. (Total download size: 1.74GB)

Totally worth a preorder for the Design Works itself.

Yeah, no doubt. Some really great visual work done, especially with the monster designs.

Anyone know anything about how the PC version handles multiple characters? Still curious about that.

But things don't have to work like the real world. Locking you into actions is a very deliberate design decision, making you think and be absolutely sure before you commit to one or multiple actions. Like old school Castlevanias that's not a design flaw, but a design choice.

Yeah, not to mention that cancelling out of things is actually far less realistic, especially for a knight in armour. Even the stuff Dark Souls characters do is still superhuman compared to real life.

Just picked this up off GMG. I'm excited to give this a try finally.

I'm so happy Capcom is so pro-PC gaming.
