Final Day of the LEGO Star Wars Advent. Little disappointed. The exclusive figure is just C-3PO with what looks to be a stock Santa torso. Compared to the nice custom Vader Santa torso and legs, it's just a bit meh.

Same with R2, just tossed some antlers on him.

Hope next year's sees some Force Awakens stuff.

Agreed, the last few days were disappointing, but I knew from the cover what we were getting. Actually, I didn't mind the sled compared to previous years' efforts.

Overall however, this has been my favorite calendar to-date, as it feels like more attention was given to the builds. Looking forward to seeing FA content next year.

Yeah, doing both this years and last year's side by side I would certainly agree that the vehicle builds were better this year, even if the minifigs were not.

first I thought I made a mistake after I had so many pieces left, but lego puts some double in it..which is really nice of them ^_^

That was me at the end of the first X-wing's section

Spent 20 minutes checking every single passage thinking i missed something lol

really love it. all the little details like that you can open the sides with a twist of the engine.

It is the best "entry level" SW set that TLG has released in ages. It's a terrific rendition of the vehicle from the film, the play features are well thought out and it comes with an exclusive (and cool) mask for Rey. The only downside is the second figure - after seeing the film twice I had to look it up to figure out who it was. To be fair though, that's the case with pretty much all of the first wave of Force Awakens sets.

I agree 100%. With a few exceptions the builds were really good. The fact that the calendar also netted me my first Jawa & Ewok figs could be clouding my judgement though.

I do wish that the 3PO figure benefited from the glorious leg printing of 5002948 but I still liked it.

had to look him up to..
one of the guys who tried to steal BB-8 from her, right?
the mask is awesome! just sad that there is not enough space inside the vehicle to put her hair in it :D.

I hope I can buy the tie fighter next..

I'm definitely buying that Rey speeder once the xmas madness is over.

Speaking of Xmas madness, I was in my local TRU this morning and the lego section was a wasteland - about 80% of the shelves were empty. No star wars stuff at all, but there was still a whole bunch of bricktober sets.

Building Poe's X-Wing. As I expected, it seems to be (so far) pretty similar to the X-Wing from 2012 (9493). But I'm actually OK with that! It's a nice little nostalgia trip because that 2012 X-Wing was the set that drew me out of the dark times.

Also, I'd forgotten how awesome the nose was.

Sadly that's how it's gonna be for a bit until after the holidays.

Last night my Target had 3 New Order Transports, and 1 other SW lego item. That's it, everything else was empty shelf space.

So glad I picked up my TFA Falcon last Thursday.

Im probably holding off on kylo ren since his value isnt very great. Darth Vader had 160 pieces and was $30, while kylo has a measly 89 pieces but is $25.

off topic but there is really no other place on gaf to post so... please indulge me

found a bunch of the tmnt mega bloks at TRU today. there is also a Buy 1 Get 1 40% off sale on all mega bloks. the blind packs are 2.99, so the savings add up pretty fast on already cheaply priced figures.

if it interests you, start looking down the mega bloks isle.

Hey if Mega Bloks are good enough for Jang then they are good enough for me :p

Speaking of which, my son decided to go with a Minions Mega Bloks calendar this year, as he's become bored of the LEGO CITY ones. After days of frustrating builds and parts that either fit way too tight (how they expect kids to put some of them together is a mystery) or way too loose (literally falling apart in his hands), he told me that next year he is going back to LEGO and wants a Star Wars calendar, like his father.

They are more challenging to assemble, the torsos in particular. it's a trade-off to the enhanced articuation. People love to bring up how much more expressive the MB figures are but they don't account for the extra difficulty of assembling them.

Mega Bloks are just the worst, he made the right decision

Well that turned sour fast T__T

Okay moving on!

I was wondering if anyone here had heard any news on rather LEGO stores will be selling January sets on Dec 26th or not? I know there was some speculation in OT4 that they might sell before Jan 1st. Meanwhile, S@H still says Jan 1st for all the suspects.

If not, well, thankfully I have Friday Jan 1st off (and a paid holiday, whoooo! All that cash is going straight to LEGO)

I'm a big fan of their Halo series and the Spartan and Covie figures are a big part of it. But I got into them about a year ago and the quality's been pretty good for recent sets, if not quite up to Lego standards.

If you were looking at their older stuff, I can see why people would thumb their noses up at their stuff because some of it is pretty ugly. Either way, I'm happy to get my Halo fix from them and everything else from Lego.

I think that was me. From what I've heard since, the U.K./Europe were getting new sets on the 26th, and the 1st for North America. I wouldn't be surprised to see some LEGO stores putting sets out early though.

Tempted to pick this up but may get the X wing instead purely for the BB-8 factor

That guy is pure money

Ain't Christmas here yet! But I know it is in Europe.

So, allow me to join TheFuzz: MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Same here, but tomorrow morning is starting with Irish coffee so I'm not making any promises that I'll remember to say it then.

I like everyone in this OT. Other threads on Gaf can be riddled with trolls and bait posts. This thread is easily the most hospitable and civil. Always enjoy conversing here.

Merry Christmas LEGO-GAF, may the day bring peace and order to your galaxy.

That pic is awesome and disturbing.

This is one of the most friendly ones for sure. Too bad we couldn't hang in regular OT for longer.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Lots of Lego under the tree for my little guy. I built the friends jewelry box and stuck a necklace for my wife in it. I also have a sneaking suspicion that I may be the proud owner of the Ferris wheel tomorrow which should be an awesome family build.

Can't wait to see everyone's pics tomorrow.

Merry Christmas everybody!

Also, can anyone tell me the dimensions of the baseplate of the Parisian Restaurant? My display shelf is 10 1/4" wide and I would hate to get it only to have it hang out over the edge. And do the other modulars use the same baseplate?

I'm not sure this counts as Christmas, but here's an image of all the sets I bought over the past month. It mostly comes from all the LEGO Shop Brick Friday sale, the B&N Cyber Monday sale, the Target 15% storewide coupon and a couple sets that were cheaper on Amazon UK.

I finished collecting all the Legends of Chima 2015 sets as well as all the Pirates sets.

Merry Christmas LEGOGAF!

Have you ever built a KREE-O set? Because they are all about that second one. I got the TRU exclusive 80s Grimlock set last year and putting it together just sucked. The pieces don't snap together, they slide, which also means they slide apart while you're trying to connect other parts. The SNOT for his legs was a nightmare, parts just coming off left and right while trying to connect them to his body. Once I finished building him I stuck him on my shelf and have moved him exactly once since.

Nothing compares to Lego. Even the Chinese Lego knockoffs are higher quality than Nano Blocks/Mega Bloks/KREE-O.

Does Lego have some kind of patent or something for getting their bricks to snap together and actually hold or are the other brick companies just dumb and lazy?

This year is disappointing overall, beside the cool At-At and Sandcrawler.

Merry Christmas, brick enablers!

I got myself Wall-E (hopefully it comes with the new neck).

Edit: yep, the instructions are changed and it comes with a ball joint; they didn't bother to change the cover pics, but it does seem to come with the improved neck...yay!

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
I mean just looking at the piece count will answer that, it's over 4,600 pieces and most modulars are around 2,000.

It's not just gonna be the biggest Lego set I've ever built, but it's the second largest Lego set ever made.
The price is about 2x bigger! :)

Yeah I just finished watching, holy shit, modular and foldable!

With that said wasn't the containment unit at the basement?

Wife did have a couple surprises. Got the "Great Lego Sets" book with the mini-spaceship build as well as Ant-Man Final Battle! Nice little surprise this morning.

Here are the top 5 for piece count:

10189 Taj Mahal: 5,922
10179 UCS Millennium Falcon: 5,197
75827 Firehouse HQ: 4,634
10214 Tower Bridge: 4,287
10188 Death Star: 3,803

Where does the Ghostbuster's HQ fall on this? I'm surprised the Shield Helicarrier isn't here.

Anyway, no LEGO for me today, but I'll be getting the Ghostbuster's HQ and the Bank on New Year's Day.
