well not really...yet
People trying to downplay Lucas' involvement in the creation of Star Wars are the fucking worst. The epitome of disgusting and ungrateful fanboy behavior. Christ.

Wow, the salt.

I didn't really take it as "salt". I took it more that Lucas clearly was going to "reinvent" the feeling of his saga, like he did in the PT, and Disney clearly wanted to give a fan service film. For all intents and purposes, that is exactly what TFA is. I think Disney's approach was the one to take, but you also have to put yourself in the shoes of Lucas, to see the entity that you created, be handled and have no say whatsoever. To do what he said he did "break up entirely", that had to be extremely difficult.

People do not give Lucas the credit he deserves. You can hate the PT all you want, but they are cannon, they are not going anywhere.

Agreed. He may have disappointed me with the prequels but he's the reason SW exists and he's a pretty awesome human being. He deserve criticism as any filmmaker does but not open scorn or hate.

This is one cool ass poster.

Holy crap, can I buy this?

OMG he SOOOOO salty that they took the characters he made and created another vaguely different kind of movie that excelled on all the aspects his originals were known for. SAAAAAALLLLTTTTTTTT

It's a movie, not D-Day, no need to be grateful for someone making a movie.

Star Wars like any other movie is just a bunch of ideas, Hollywood is littered with ideas, it's the execution that matters.

He did a decent enough job with the lightsaber once he started using it for someone with no training with it at all despite losing both battles and having no Force powers at all.

That's something I was wondering about. In the old canon at least, regular non-force users weren't supposed to be able to use lightsabers without killing themselves because of the reaction times they required. Did they just loosen that requirement canonically? Or could this be another hint that Fin has some force sensitivity?

There are three more pages after the quoted portion.

The design of Maz Kanata took longer than expected and they ran out of time to create the character as a puppet (just as they had done for Yoda in Empire) as they originally wanted. Maz was one of the last designed characters for the film, finalized in October 2015 just months before the film’s release.

Interesting. Maybe they can make her a puppet in Episode VIII.

Poor George Lucas. I actually enjoyed the prequels and all OT (obviously) it sucks that Hollywood and critics basically made him leave his baby behind. Although I loved the Force Awakens, I would have loved to see what George did with Episodes 7,8, and 9. :(

Modern audiences are so strange. How can someone not understand why Kylo wears a mask, while watching the film? Seriously. It was plain obvious to me.

Suggesting what people should or should not feel grateful for is crossing a line. You're welcome to be responsible for your own feelings but not for others'. Thanks.

I'm not the one suggesting anyone to feel any way or calling names (ungrateful disgusting fanboy? lol) over how others feel.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I would KILL for iPhone 6 Plus version of the Kylo Ren background

This is too easy of an excuse.
Sure you can break physics and logic all you want, but you better stay consistent with what has been established before in prior movies of the world you are trying to build or everything becomes arbitary and the stakes don't feel "real" in that world.

e.g. why is Vader strangling Admiral Ozzle for coming out of Hyperspace too close to Hoth and then in TFA this is a legitimate tactic against Starkiller base? Did the Empire loose all sense for tactics?
Dropping out of hyperspace against the Starkiller was a legitimate tactic because they wanted to get through its shield, a fleet with huge ships dropping too close to the planet (that doesn't have any shields) doesn't leave time to launch an offensive without alerting the rebels.

Why does Deathstar I need to orbit around Yavin IV in ANH when Starkiller base can just have arcing laser beams that don't need a direct fireline and can fire from what looks like across the galaxy (and reach the target in like 10 minutes)?
A different, more recent weapon has advantages over the old model.

Why is Deathstar II defended by what looked like at least 30 Stardestroyers and a gazillion Tie-Fighters and Starkiller base which is like at least 20x the size has 0 cap ships and 10 Tie-Fighters?
Because the Empire is... well, an empire with loads of resources and a huge fleet while the FO is a group of rebels.
In ANH and ROTJ the Deathstars can only be defeated by the Rebels cause they have the blueprints or strike before construction is complete.
In TFA all they need is 8 X-Wings and 2 minutes of brain storming.

Nothing makes any sense.
That was stupid.

The hyperspace tunneling through shields thing is somewhat problematic in a grander sense, but I was willing to overlook it in the moment because it subverted my expectations for where that plot hook was going. (As soon as Han told Leia she "wouldn't like" his plan I assumed his intention was to get the Falcon captured by Kylo with Finn hidden away in stowage, which would have been a pretty cliche way of doing it and raised at least as many questions about how the First Order could possibly fall for such an obvious ploy.)

It certainly begs the question that if the First Order can afford to build a planet death star, why don't they just take that money and use it to build an entire fleet of star destoyers and use them to occupy the system they were going after? I mean, I have no military experience or anything but being able to occupy the planets would make far more sense since you could actually use the manpower and resources on them.

Also, a fleet of thousands of tie fighters and star destroyers is way harder to destroy with a single fleet of x-wings unlike their dumb planet.

Maybe Snoke is just like some kind of ISIS dude who only cares about destroying things.

So what would Episode VII look like if GL made it?

Since he dislikes introducing new characters to the franchise, I guess Palpatine survives and resurrects Darth Vader. And it's Luke, Han and Leia vs the Empire again.

Naw, he has gone on record saying his Episode 7 would have been about the grandchildren (plural) so that makes me believe that the story would have including the children of Leia, Han and Luke.

Interestingly enough, I don't know that the original 3 come back if GL is helming. That is especially true for Harrison Ford, methinks.

The original rumor was actually that his treatment focused too much on the next generation and didn't focus on the original cast enough. Also that the next generation was too young and it gave Disney Phantom Menace vibes.

He has mentioned bits and pieces for decades but he contradicts himself often.

I remember reading that his original plan (this was before ROTJ came out) was to have Vader die in EP 6 but keep the Emperor alive and have 7-9 be Luke trying to take down the Emperor. I can't find it anymore though since googling "George Lucas Episode 7" brings up all new stuff now.

He obviously changed that when ROTJ came out. By the mid-80s he was convinced that he was only going to do prequels and there would never be an Episode 7. He wrote the 7-9 treatments fairly close to the disney sale.

I think they all come back because he helped make their careers. You're also forgetting that Harrison came back for Crystal Skull lol.

Actually Abrams has stated that Lucas' treatment was rejected because it centered around very young characters, probably at the expense of the old cast:

I don't think it's hard to get Harrison Ford to agree to do a movie, it's just hard to get him to stay awake during the shooting of that movie. (See also: Ender's Game.)

I wonder what got him to do a fantastic performance in TFA. Was it the insane amount of money they gave him? Was it because he actually cares of Star Wars? Is it because he likes JJ?

Whatever it was, I'm glad he actually tried. The only difference between Han Solo then and now is just his age, he couldn't have done a better job.

"The Star Wars prequels suck! BLAME LUCAS! DEATH to Lucas!"

I'm beginning to understand this twisted line of thinking. And it sucks.

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
This reminds me a bit of the Grimoire in Destiny. What I love about Star Wars is the films; not the books, or comics, etc. They need to stand on their own and "it was explained in the book" doesn't do anything for me because I'm not interested in those mediums. I love movies. Similarly, "the story is great in the Grimoire" when it comes to Destiny doesn't work, because I like playing games not reading cards on a website.

The tidbits that have been mentioned from the novelization that flesh out TFA a bit are interesting, but if they're not in the film, then they don't really help it. Great for fans of the EU and who want more Star Wars in other mediums, but there's nothing wrong with simply being a fan of the films, and disinterested in the rest.

We're not talking eu lol. We're talking canon.

Forgive me. I feel it again...the call from light. Supreme Leader senses it. Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I'll let nothing stand in our way. Show me, grandfather, and I will finish what you started.

best non-BB8 character tbh

I love the fact that the stun baton trooper has become a fan favorite and a meme of sorts, I hope he shows up in the future with no explanation on how he survived.

Hard to say. I assume he had to at least somewhat like the script. Maybe JJ's focus on practical effects and location shooting was also nostalgic for him. Maybe the sheer scope of passion on display (with things like the Falcon set they created and the like) was just infectious; that certainly seemed to be the case for a lot of the new actors, many of whom came in with little connection to Star Wars, comparatively, due to their age.

Heck, maybe he just has a good sense for the trajectory of projects he's on, and he felt like this was going to be a good movie and wanted to put in an honest effort, whereas with Ender's Game he could feel it wasn't going to be spectacular and phoned it in.

Hell yes! Driver was great as Kylo Ren. My new favorite SW villain, second only to Vader.

Given his obsession with finding Luke I wonder if the bolded means to kill Luke or turn him like Vader tried.

Unfortunately your chosen medium has to fit everything into two hours.
