Besides the 1 Million party, GAF makes me happy and so I would then want to make GAF a place where you will get something for just being on GAF, another million for GAF member gifts wouldn't hurt

if I won, I would just tell every one I know and family to fuck off like a badass. At that point with hundreds of millions I am no longer your friend/relative for safety reasons.

To anyone who laughs at you for buying a ticket and throwing your money away, be sure to tell them it's worth a few bucks to be able to giggle to yourself about the ridiculous stuff you could do for people on your gaming forum if you won.

I never advocate people play the lottery. Or gamble at all! But at $250M+ I can't not buy a ticket. Well, 5, to be precise, one for each member of the family. That's our official threshold.
I'd be scared of winning that much money.

Not sure what I'd become.
My mother has always said this. But don't worry! Just wish for one of the multiple $1M prizes, or even a $50,000 if you're paranoid!

for real though, I would use 9/10 to form some kind of non-profit that helps low income people.

having all that money seems like a disease

After taxes you should get like $310 million dollars.

That's like a dollar for every combination of numbers you need to buy to win. Providing only one person wins

Why the fuck does the powerball site look like some shit stuck in the 90s, good lord lol.

That amount, I wouldn't shy from! Lol.

In terms of winners being crazy with their money/killing themselves/going bankrupt, I would hazard to guess that they weren't quite as educated or well-grounded as a lot of other people. I mean, if an uneducated mother of 10 in a bad neighborhood (who has criminal relatives) wins the lotto....you can tell that she's fucked. But if a college educated person who has no criminal history (or criminals in their family) wins, I'd presume that they would be a lot more capable of handling the windfall.

Or maybe I'm wrong. I really never really hear about the backgrounds of the people who end up worse off after winning large jackpots.

I hate that legally you have to make your name public after a lottery win here in Ontario Canada. It should be optional everywhere. Shit like this ruins lives when the public find out. I'd give some money to family and then disappear to a foreign country immediately.

wow.

how does Powerball work? Is this some kind of standatd lottery? Pick 6+1+1 out of 49 or something like this?

The problem is also that your name, face, and address pretty much gets broadcasted everywhere, especially with 'historical' jackpots like this. I know you can not have it announced but I feel like it'd eventually get out. After that happens, you'll have more "family and friends" then you'll know what to deal with.

I'd be super worried about family being targeted by kidnappers.

People called Romanes they go the house?
This'd be sweet and all, but you'd basically have to go to extreme steps to either hide the money, or move somewhere and break all contact with anyone who's gonna be after your money (which is gonna be damn near everyone you know).

Would be a fun pipe dream though, and that reddit advice is pretty nifty.

People who win gaawwwdd the life they must have
I don't envy that life at least in the early goings after the win. The media pressure. Unclear judgment which leads to unwise decisions. Social links get worse like family, friendships, or relationships. That's for the first year or so where you don't feel you deserved it. Afterwards, then things improve if you haven't spent ridiculous amounts on materialism. Taking holidays. Giving to charity or following it up by going to that poor country where your money is helping. Having unique experiences. Saving wisely for kids or inheritance and stuff that gets mulled over with a lawyer. It's worth pondering long-term more than the early pleasures.

I'd take my chances.

First, contact a CPA, financial planner, and law firm before even claiming the prize (I believe you get 30 days or something). Figure out a way to claim it anonymously, some states allow it, but setting up a trust or LLC is a possible way to get around those laws.

After finding the right people and developing a plan of action, I think it would be smooth sailing for me.

I bought two tickets, so my odds of winning are 1 in 146 million! Aww, yeah!

I think its more ilke 2 in 292,000,000 :(

I'd be super worried about family being targeted by kidnappers.

Yeah me too. I would have to hire body guards for my parents and brothers. Fuck my cousins, they're on their own.

My name is not unique enough dammit. Even if I show up to the press conference in a Mike Rowe mask.

Out of curiosity I did the math on how much taxes in total I'd have to pay, as a finnish resident; going with the lump sum, naturally.

First off, the 30% federal tax that's applied to non-US residents:
$413.1M - $123.93M = $289.17M

Then, from that the finnish taxation would take (using progressive income tax):
$289.17M - $151.1M = $138.08M

And that's IF the taxman decides not to be a dick and just calculate the tax based on total winnings, instead of the remaining part after US taxes.

Man, fuck that. I'd go on the lam and just buy a residency somewhere else, lol.

I literally don't have a dollar to spare after the holiday and an upcoming bill, or else I would go buy a ticket right now.

I wonder how many years it would take to win the simulation with odds of "1 in 175,223,510" 175,223,510 times in a row.

The first rule of winning the lotto jackpot is never tell anyone you've won.

The second rule of winning the lotto jackpot is never tell anyone you've won.

The third rule of winning the lotto jackpot is NEVER tell anyone you've won.

If I win, not even my family will know that I had won. It's only between me, the lotto commission, and the IRS.

Not to sound like too much of a snob, but I'm fairly confident winning a couple hundred million dollars wouldn't suddenly start making me drive drunk, get into hard drugs, or cause my family to murder me.

I think it's less "winning the lottery ruins your life" and more that most of the people who play the lottery (and thus are likelier to win) have those sorts of problems in the first place. I never play the lottery so I dunno. When my friends drag me to the casino and I lose 10 bucks I get mad at myself.

How long does it take to legally change your name? I'd probably just do that, claim the prize, and then change it back lol.

I haven't bought a ticket ever for myself. This may be the time as I am thinking of all the Tim Tams I could buy.

Just remember, you're statistically more likely to die in a cat accident on the way to and from buying the lottery ticket, than you are of winning this powerball.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Bought a ticket - can't believe I lost. My typical luck.

A cat accident? Sounds terrifying. *eyeballs kitty*. I'm watching you, furball.

With that kind of money u get the power to tell ur least fave GAF member/mod to leave the site and you'll give $100k to their favorite charity. If they stay u win and if they leave u win.

Money is power $$$$$$$

Well good thing I forgot to buy my ticket. Saturday is my lucky day anyway. It's the day before my birthday. There's no way I can't win.

SHIET, I think I found the formula for the probability.

175,223,510^1 = 175,223,510
175,223,510^2 = 5,379,936,219,693,880,000,000,000
175,223,510^3 = 942,691,307,990,893,000,000,000,000,000,000
175,223,510^4 = 165,181,679,832,655,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
175,223,510^5 = 28,943,713,727,974,100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

now imagine
175,223,510^175,223,510

I work in retail and I sold over $3000 worth of Powerball tickets during my 9 hour shift. Shit is ridiculous. I got a lot of people buying $40 worth and even a few that bought $100 worth. It honestly makes me feel kind of bitter seeing people throw their money away like that, but it's good for business which means I get more hours at work so I can't complain :/

Doesn't the vendor who sold the winning ticket get some kind of bonus as well? I mean the business, not the employee, but still.

They'd just harass your family then.
