They'll make you climb those damn towers, and you'll love it!

No but really, even if it turned out to be "another WD". WD wasn't all that bad.
Driving was made by aliens tho

Oddly enough, it was made by Reflections, the guys from Driver.

So is this an endless game like Destiny or does it have a defined start and end point?

I'd like it to be good tbh but I'm feeling kinda burned out on Destiny and it's ilk.
Well, without having the full game i guess you can call it a somewhat 3rd person Destiny+Borderlands type game.

If that makes sense.

Hah, how do one go from Driver to WD driving? So weird.

The four takeaways:

* This is an RPG. You will grow in power and unlock gear and attachments and upgrade your base. We won't show you RPG boss enemy bullet-sponges being RPG boss enemy bullet-sponges because that would be discordant with the grounded militaristic setting and contemporary weaponry, but rest assured there will be bullet sponges. Like that heavy that gets dropped in one attack in the trailer.

* Playing solo isn't going to be a good time. You need to work together, and not go alone, and totally work together, always together, always with other people, always, not solo, don't solo, why would you ever want to solo?

* The Dark Zone is where the assholes are. You can be an asshole there too if you want. You can be an asshole and fire off flares, or fire off a flare before unleashing your inner asshole, your choice.

* Ain't this broken down New York large scale and pretty? Why yes, yes it really is.

Just can't get past how many bullets it takes to kill people. I really like everything else about this game.

Sounds about right.

it's because it's an RPG first man. If this was Rainbow six siege (in terms of health/headshots) then the game would be a fucking joke. RPG > Cover > Shooter. Felt great in the alpha

Well you can one shot, kill enemies quickly once your gear is the shit.

Had an OP shotgun one shots all around

Really?! I played for quite a while and had some seriously decent guns i brought back from the DarkZone... not one single firearm... even sniper... would 1 shot anyone. What did you find... remember the damage?

The two hours or so I spent in the Alpha was solely on my own, and I had a decent time with it. Though, you're right in saying that it would probably be more enjoyable in co-op.

You misspelled "fucking awesome".

If you can't make engaging combat with realistic weapons and damage maybe Tom Clancy isn't the best license to use? Is it really so hard to provide a sense of progression without tying health and damage to RPG levels?

But I know that's a completely lost cause at this point so its not at all like I expect it to change. Just something that bugs me about the core concept here is all.

Certainly could be, and the messaging in the trailer really reinforces the team aspect above all, and then doubles down on it, and then triples down on it ;p

They really want to be super clear on that part it seems.

Yeah you can one shot the low level enemies. But then where's the challenge? Its certainly not in the scenarios or the ai or the strategies, which is where I want my challenge in tactical shooters.

I played the Alpha and its just not my thing. I can't do bullet sponge enemies that don't look like aliens or monsters or robots or something. I understand it's an RPG, but it looks like a Tom Clancy tactical shooter, and my brain just cant get into it. I hope you guys enjoy it though.

The idea that this game would be a joke if there weren't bullet sponges is kind of my point. There's no challenge otherwise and that's not really what I look for in my military shooters.

Luckily, you will be glad to know theres a different 4 player co-op third person open world shooter with the Tom Clancy name that doesnt seem to be suffering from this issue.

Theres nothing wrong with The Division being a RPG, as its the story taking elements from the clancyverse, not necessarily the gameplay.

Bullet sponges don't jive with the Clancyverse though, either in terms of world or story or gameplay. Its super dissonant actually.

This is where fantasy and sci-fi worlds make for a more natural fit with these kinds of classic RPG concepts. When you're fighting robots with pew pew lasers there's a lot more latitude with expectations.

So while I get the idea, as a fan of Tom Clancy stuff its a huge disconnect. Amazing gameplay can overcome most any obstacle though.

If the game was suppose to be more realistic like Rainbow six and whatnot, it would end up being Ghost Recon: NonWildlands. (I can't wait for GR:W)

I am a huge fan of the Tom Clancy branded games. This doesn't have to be like every other game. I am glad it's not like the rest. The strategy of group play and different classes/roles (HEALER? FUCK YES). I guess I am a shooter fan and an mmo fan and Destiny missing out on having healer classes really bugged me.

The one thing I really hope is that end game is not just dark zone. Need more end game than Dark Zone.

There was no bullet sponges in the alpha if you fought enemies around your level. Took no more than a sec or two to kill them. Bosses or elites took longer but that's a given.

Sounds a lot like vacuous Destiny/MMO chat, immediately makes me disinterested. Gameplay looks OK but i can imagine not a whole lot beyond that, ala Destiny.

well it looks like there are the three components of mmos, tank/dps/heal

probably with a vary and versatile approach

the voice is explaining the story and setting, but with a "roleplaying" speech

it's not a developer explanation of the game, she's one of the survivors like you

I'm torn between getting this for PS4 or PC.
I'd prefer PC because I have a very good gaming PC (980ti) and I'm a sucker for graphical fidelity.
I haven't played any Ubisoft/Uplay title multiplayer in years, could somebody tell me, how good is Ubisoft usually in countering cheating on PC in the MP sections of their games? I don't wanna buy the PC version and be confronted with aimbot kiddies all the times... So do you think it is more save to go with PS4 from my perspective..?

I'm torn for different reasons. Go where your friends are.

Amount of posters saying they have now preordered because of one trailer.... Wow!

I'm gonna have wait and see what happens, there isn't any real rush.

Hope the game is great tho!

So can you take a dog into battle or are they just running around in the world?

They run arround in the world. But what you saw in tne trailer was Canine wich is probably just a part of the defense upgrade for the base of operations. You cant use a dog as a companion or something.

I made a pre-order JUST to try the Alpha.

The freaking Alpha made me keep my pre-order.

Another note: I did not enjoy Destiny, I do not like MMOs, I ended up REALLY liking this.

Ubisoft have the worst HUD designers in the industry. Every game they do its a overly cluttered mess.

Hopefully you can turn most of it off.

Yup. Hit GAF long before other sites hit up on it.

At least on Steam it does (You get "The Division" and "The Division - Beta" added to the library), i assume its the same for Amazon, however they give a code you need to use in order to register.

Does steam charge you right away for preorders?
