Twilight Princess HD officially announced.

A lot of people complain about the first couple of hours leading to the first dungeon but I'm not sure what's wrong with it. It's been years since I last played Twilight Princess but I don't remember it being a chore or slow to go through.

The Twilight Princess's true form was spoiled on the art on the instruction manual in the original release. It's only a spoiler if you point out what it is. Otherwise it's left as a complete mystery.

And Ganondorf is a default character in Smash Bros. using the Twilight Princess design. Come on people.

Holy shit, you're right. I just checked my Wii version copy and this art is right on the first page of the manual:

I never noticed adult Midna was right there the whole time.

I don't remember that either. Guess we'll both find out soon.

The opening is why I've never played this game. It's the worst intro ever. I have tried multiple times to make it through and never have. It's awful.

It kind of requires an old CRT as it doesn't have widescreen support and looks like mud on an HDTV. Still the better experience than the Wii version, though.

TP is more deserving of a remaster than almost anything else out there.

It's playable in widescreen via Nintendont on Wii/Wii U. You can use the Gamecube controllers (or any controller really) on Wii U as well!

Try it again.....it sucks

Eh... I wouldn't necessarily say it sucks... But, yeah, the first couple hours are pretty slow. I started LTTPing it a few days ago, didn't make it very far before being distracted by other games. My general feeling was/is that the forced waggle controls *do* suck big time. So the slow beginning may have actually benefitted new players trying to adjust to a control scheme that didn't really fit the game. No idea if this was an intentional re-design for the Wii version (since I never played the GC version either) or just happenstance.

Edit: In any case, I didn't feel like the intro was bad enough to put me off the game. It's slow but nothing I normally wouldn't blow thru quickly to get to the better stuff. What really did put me off the game are the waggle controls. WTF was Nintendo thinking forcing this crap in certain genres?

Haven't been following this thread, have there been any more comparisons between versions using the new screens?

That's interesting, I really like the intro. I also like Skyward Sword's opening hour so maybe I'm just mad. Lots of really nice character development and it's amazing to see this relaxing harmless world torn apart by darkness, meeting these friendly welcoming people and then when you visit them again they shun and fear you. It takes a while to get to the first dungeon but I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

Only bits I didn't like were the tear collectathons.

Skyward Sword is worse, with everybody in your face all the time about what to do and how special you are and with Zelda all over you in the most anime fashion.

It IS because of Wii Waggle. Miyamoto ordered them to stretch the tutorial out over three days instead of one. But the Cube version got the same tutorial, for the sake of parity. DX<

I remember Twilight Princess with fondness.

Skyward Sword, I absolutely loved every single second of... Except for the Silent Realms. Hated those with a fiery passion.

If they're clever about which ones they remove, it could really help reduce annoyance.

I read this in the YouTube comments - is this true?

"Gamexplain, I'm disappointed of you... In one of the screenshots (the one where Link stands in front of his house) you can see that Link carries 2000 rupees, even though the total amount of rupees you could carry, was originally 1000. So there's another change."

I got hi-res screens from Nible. This is true, Link is holding 2000 rupees.

Seems like they know since they just posted a video about it

Hopefully this will reduce the amount of times you see the stupid message where you can't hold any more rupees

I remember being stuck for hours on the stupid fishing minigame, then thinking maybe I was in the wrong place so wandering around the village for another hour, then going to gamefaqs and learning how to use the stupid wii fishing controls

I love that guy's voice.

It's slow, but people make it out to be something far worse than it is. In the grand scheme of the entire game, it's such a small portion.

To be fair, we go from 16 to 12... Impact on pacing shouldn't be too important. Pretty sure they just removed a couple of bugs that were in easy to miss areas, so that people avoid spending a long time searchign everywhere.

...

Wait a minute. There's 4 less Tears of Light on Wii U.

There's 4 bugs in the area with the twilight bird.... Hmm...

What do you mean by "four less tears of light on Wii U?"

There's a UI meter that shows up whenever you get the Vessel of Light in the Twilight Realm sections of Hyrule, and one of the screenshots of the Wii U version shows four fewer Tears than were required in the original game for that particular region (Lanayru).

Apologies if this has been asked before (I haven't really been following any TP HD news), but is it know if the game has the option to switch between left- and right handed Link and original/ mirrored Hyrule or is it just the Wii version in HD? I've tried the Wii version several times, but could get over the mirrored world and lack of traditional controls, I vastly prefer the GC version.

There's been no indication that you can flip the world in this version, but you should feel right at home in the Wii U version as it's based on the GCN version.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
I liked the intro of TP and I loved the I to of SS, otherwise do a good job of setting up the rest of the game, Zelda is usually a 30+ hour game so the intro is basically nothing

Well. I played about 2 hours of TP on Wii and that's it. I'm glad I didn't go back to it, now I can really enjoy it in all the HD glory.

I always find this a poor excuse for being open with spoilers. There are always new people growing up who where too young back then and it would be cool if they don't get spoiled by the official boxart.

In most cases I agree, but I don't think Ganondorf-related spoilers are terribly "new news" at this point (he's not really an interesting character). I definitely think the Midna thing is a bigger deal, like you mention in your next point:

The damage in this case is probably not that big considering this design also appeared in two Smash games, but it's still a bad decision. When you solely look at the games narrative it's meant to be a surprise.

I still feel they are gonna include both versions

I hope so, my stupid ass can't handle mirror worlds.

So Famitsu did uncover one scoop, the less tears of light thing lol

While I don't mind the sequence, I also don't think this is a bad idea.

Also making both treks into the Lost Woods less annoying would be great. Fucking hated it the first time, absolutely PO'd the second time.

2000 ruppees as the max limit will also help in some of the sidequests that required lots of ruppees (Malo Mart, the Priest-looking dude in Castle Town, etc) but unless Magic Armor has some actual need or there's some additional things to buy with ruppees they'll become capped at 2000 all the time at some point anyway -- resulting in the same eventual problem. So hopefully the max ruppee count isn't the only thing they've done to remedy that problem.

Unless they calculated how many ruppee chests there are and what amount of ruppees are required to essentially do everything before you get the Magic Armor...

I think it will just help for in dungeons since you'd never compelete the whole map since ther would still be some unopened chests. I think thats probably what they are going for. Since most of the money is in the dungeons and usually you wouldn't be able to get them since you were at max already. Since you really didn't have to buy much in that game besides bombs really.

Holy shit... It didn't changed one bit. It still looks exactly like the original.

It makes me so sad :(

Yes you can tell that even with that image quality.

Yeah all it is, is just texture improvements. Was hoping they'd be like "Oh this just an option for those who want to see it in a different light" *shows off new lighting system* if only.

I'm gonna guess that once we beat the game it'll unlock heroes mode that'll flip the world around to be the wii version.

I'm guessing they removed the Tears from the flying section in Lanayru. But I think that's only 3 of them, not 4.

Isn't there one in the Hyrule Castle Town?

I mean, yes, that's what I said but at some point you'll still cap out at 2000 due to the sheer number of ruppee chests in TP and the very little amount of things you'll need to buy at some point.

Ideally, it shouldn't just be that change but also just... letting Link "take" the ruppee despite having a full wallet. That message shouldn't pop up at all and Link should just take it as though it's a regular ruppee on the ground. Like... in previous Zelda games lol.

Oh for pete's sake...

The screenshot is stupid, the game has a pretty nice lighting engine in like 90% of the rest of the game that isn't looking at a giant tree.

Everyone already complained that the BLOOOOOM was awful in Wind Waker, so if they're cutting back that should make you all happy no? I also thought TP was one of the games that aged super well. The biggest graphical issue being the muddy textures, which I'm guessing is the main fix for the HD version.

Im sorry but when I played it the first time I didnt know that Ganon was in. None of the E3 trailers showed him. Also Midna's form is shown after you beat the game.

Am ehm... there are so many faces there you don't know which one is... :/ sorry

Sure, I agree that they were technically spoilers in... 2006, but it's been a decade and 3 other games have openly revealed them, as well (brawl, smash 4, and hyrule warriors). It is no longer a spoiler.

Got to the second dungeon, I think, before I gave up. It definitely had a very slow rollout and that was to its detriment I think. Even when you get to the "open" parts of the overworld it's so closed-off to start.

Hopefully they add something new to spend it on. And now I must be forgetting did Skyward Sword do this as well with putting away rupees if you had it maxed? I can't remember having that happen to me.

Well with this seeming to shorten up the tear requirement and maybe some other helpful changes I might end up liking this game more now. Just needs to make the beginning part shorter now.
