Youi heard it from Angry Joe first, "They're doing a lot for the PC version.", and "The PC version looks far better than the console version". Hold me.

I'm glad he sounds optimistic despite the MMO aspects and environment interaction to be much lighter than he anticipated, and that the PC version was looking much better than what we've been seeing (which is fine for these consoles IMO). PC is the route I'm likely going, so hopefully we'll get a look at that before the beta starts.

Nice. This gives me hope for the PC version looking beast.

The majority of my play will probably be on PS4 because of the nature of the game and that's where my friends are.

But this game, if it lives up to even half of its graphical potential with Snowdrop, will look amazing at 60fps and 4K resolution with all of the bells and whistles on.

I wonder if they are doing any Nvidia integration like some of the other Ubi titles..

As does every game on a pc though if it's a good PC? lol

Anyway, one thing I agree in with a lot of impressions, the AI are pure shit. They just stand in the open and take shot. Really poor design choice IMO.
Talking about more than just IQ, draw distance, and framerate.

I want in on the beta :(

That's a fairly ignorant statement. Angry Joe, if my memory of him in the past serves correctly, wouldn't consider a list of enhancements and "not a port...well maybe a port, but giving a shit of the PC" as the throwaway resolution, performance bumps, and basic sliders. Pretty much reads as you wanting to push your negative opinion by dismissing the latest positive point to come up. I'm still not expecting exactly what we saw in the benchmark/concept demo, but it will be fairly close.

I agree, the A.I. looked poor compared to the RB6 Vegas titles released almost 10 years ago.

You know, back in 2013, when they announced it, they only did announce it for PS4/XB1 at first. So the demo was deceiving, graphics wise.

Let's show the version that is running on PC and make it look like it runs on a console. Whatever, I don't think this will look as good as the E3 demo on PC either. Would be glad to be proven wrong though.

Back in 2013 they also didn't have actual consoles to work with. Just guesses on what was possible and iirc devkits. And in many regards they achieved what they set out to do and in other ways actually improved. The 2013 demo had no cloth physics for instance.

Were the consoles known to be packing the hardware they do have? Or was that in question and this was just a target demo like Watch_Dogs (which was well before devkits were out iirc)? Depending on the answer, that wasn't dishonest at the time.

Keep in mind, they were probably developing that target demo/footage for the better part of a year to where it was likely too late to retool everything to fit their approximation of what could be done on the hardware (of which...kind of hard to do so that early on).

However, I'm not sure if they ever went back on that reveal to tame expectations, which I'm sure wasn't preferable to letting it sit around to either be hyped up or people to forget exactly what that footage looked like. That's the bit that gets dishonest, as they were with Watch_Dogs up until close to release iirc.

People should really get over the whole downgrade drama, it has been at least 1,5 years since we (and they) have a better idea of what the game will actually looks like on realease. There are tons of articles and post-mortems out there which explains in details how hard it is to figure out how the game will be until the last few months before release. The thing is, we're quite lucky in the case of The Division because we had the opportunity to have closer representation of the actual game long before that.

Did they lie on purpose to gain easy money on preorders ? I'm 99% sure they lied to themselves above everything on what they could actually achieve technically, now that they lowered their own expectations and progressed in development, they show what the game actually is. Why can't people accept this game for what it is instead of what it could have been in a parallel universe ? I mean you know, the gameplay, systems, story, multiplayer, etc... and all this stuff I was told gamers care more about than graphics.

Wish this wasn't multiplayer. The world/setting looks so good and realistic in terms of the immediate effects of mass evacuation but the potential atmosphere is ruined with the lame back and forth shooting gallery stuff with other players. Would be cool to have a game like this that doesn't involve shooting and is just about survival in a major city like I Am Legend the game.
I am pretty disappointed by the multiplayer and loot focus.

I would have loved to have seen a really immersive and story driven 3rd person shooter in this world.

I'm still interested in this though.

Still really like those echoes. Tells the story what happenend at that place. In the alpha there were also quite alot of places with those placed across the world.

Im rooting for Massive. I am. I really, really hope this game will be great, and not another Brink/Watchdogs.

Massive Entertainment is a highly skilled studio who released the legendary World in Conflict.
I really hope there is a solid end game, and good character customization. They have to make sure it doesn't face the same problems Destiny faced out of the gate- needs to be social tools, need to be hard encounters, need to be a good incentive to want to play with others.

I had no idea this was an RPG and those big health bars are a real turn-off. Was hoping for more of a survival kinda game.

Will try the beta though if I get in.

how long does it take them to send the beta key? i preordered for PS4 and Pc to get the keys. Want to test both and see how much my pc can handle. Do we know if this game has controller support for pc?

ah ok. german amazon is a little slow . Still no key^^.

Can we join random groups in the game to do missions? I dont think my friends will buy this game and i dont want to run around in this open world all by myself. The thing is i dont like to use voice chat to talk to strangers and english isnt my native language but most will probably want you to talk if you want to join a group. :/ This killed destiny for me.

Should take a few minutes. And yea it should have controller support on pc.

This looks like a modern day Destiny.

Ubisoft does TPS cover shooting really well and you can tell it's polished here. If only the framerate held up to show that it was actually fluid.

The AI looks braindead. Even the lowliest looters would have the sense to get behind an object when someone is pointing a gun at you.

Youi heard it from Angry Joe first, "They're doing a lot for the PC version.", and "The PC version looks far better than the console version". Hold me.

Like I said, calling downgrade made no sense (for the PC version) given the studio's history as well as what they originally demo'd it on (a GTX 680 PC or something similar, quite obviously). Ubisoft or not, this studio's pedigree for graphics (WIC is ridiculous looking for its time) and its staff (former crytek graphics guys working there).... it makes more sense.

Uh ok...

I hope for a simultaneous release on pc then.
Why wouldn't they allow the youtubers to talk about it the same as the console verions if they did playtest both?
People are allowed to talk about the pc version on the 22nd. Remember they have a marketing deal with Microsoft, they're showing off the xb1 version. Not to mention, they haven't shown the ps4 version either.

lol right, totally forgot about the deal with MS.

For what it's worth when I was working at the Ubisoft AC booth during Paris Games Week, I spent some time on The Division booth, I was surprised how good it looked there considering it was running on the Xbox One.
And this man seemed to enjoy it a great deal too :)

I'm anxious to see the PC version though.

People involved involved in downgrade culture frankly don't understand the big picture in game development.

These vertical slice demos are created years before the game is released, generally by a small team who are using an offshoot of the engine. They are crating what they hope the game will look like when it finally releases. At the same time, they are completely unaware of what will occur over the course of development and, in this case, how outdated the specs of the consoles actually became.

When the game is months out from release and there are still game breaking issues preventing the game from shipping, you have to understand people are going to be pulled out of certain areas and thrown at those issues. Graphical effects are not necessary for a game to ship.

Sorry, but if you thought the initial demo was running on console hardware you're delusional

Something that I haven't seen answered, what's max fireteam size?

I believe it's four.

it's not hard to understand why people would feel let down or deceived when ubisoft keeps pulling the same shit as far as graphics are concerned. it feels like false advertising but at least in this case there's plenty of footage of how it looks now before launch

and at least it wasn't madden 06 levels of downgrade. that fucking trailer lol

still pumped to give this a shot but id be lying if i said i wasnt a little bummed with the downgrade

In the older footage they've shown it made the fights more exciting

Yep.

They are not forcing anyone to buy the game based on previous demos. They are also not hiding anything, you can see what the game currently looks like and make your purchasing decision based on that.

Don't like what you see? Well shuffle along.

Is there really no PC footage out yet? If so, then obviously I haven't seen it. Was Watch Dogs really that much better looking on PC? Like what they originally showed? again, I'm still really looking forward to the division but I don't see anything wrong with wanting to expect more out of the console ones either. fingers crossed that the PC one actually takes advantage of pc hardware as much as it's able.

Keeps pulling eh?

are you seriously going to pretend Ubisoft hasn't done this on almost every occasion this gen? and I'm pretty sure there was heavy backlash towards the witcher as well. I also don't recall ever seeing any Cyberpunk footage whatsoever. how did this even come up? Lol

Imho ofc there are natural expectations yes but going away from that makes the game more unique than if it were played completely like a super realistic game. It also doesn't help how severely misinformed some people seem about the mechanics, like the fact that normal enemies go down much faster than the boss and mini boss enemies seen in those gifs. Speaking of, here's two more gifs, meant to show different environment density in different areas of the map, because it seems that many expected the environment to constantly be as cluttered as that initial area in the reveal demo.
Emptier street

Cluttered street.

Apologies to mobile GAF.

The street lines disappearing is quite distracting. Looks really good otherwise.

Is this the game running on the bone?

Complaining about a downgrade isn't forcing anyone to give the game up either.

It'd be nice if people stopped defending Ubisoft for this though (omg i know massive is making this) as we've seen it all before haven't we. No doubt the PC version will look like a much better version of what we're currently being shown and not what the game was originally advertised as, which itself is kinda the problem. Faux gameplay heavily dolled up with extra animation, lighting, debris and texture detail vanishing. People have been waiting years to see extra footage from the game and now we finally do it doesn't look like what we were originally shown so we should just shuffle along?

http://www.pcgamer.com/watch-dogs-downgrade-controversy-is-a-lesson-learned-for-ubisoft/

“With E3 2015 we said, OK, let’s make sure the games are playable, that they’re running on the target machines," Guillemot said.

"When we show something, we ask the team, make sure it’s playable, make sure gamers can immediately see exactly what it is. That’s what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience – if it can’t be played on the target machine, it can be a risk.”

Worst off, we should know this as an irrefutable fact by now. Aren't games supposed to look better as they have more time in development? A youtube comment on a 'Ubisoft Downgrade" video put it best, they know what makes a game look aesthetically pleasing beyond just the quality of textures, resolution and effects and we're shown those things initially along with the former bumped up - few years later it's all missing and unfortunately the actually product just looks lifeless in comparison.

How are you okay with this. I'm fine with you anticipating the game, hell I still think it looks good visually and yeah it could but fun but that's far from the point isn't it..

No games do not always look better from release compared to the initial reveal, especially when you see some of the stuff they have in mind before optimization happens. And wtf is this revisionist history? People have been waiting years to see how it looks? Are you insinuating that Massive only showed the original demo and are just now showing the console build to the public instead of having multiple demos at pretty much every major trade show for the past three years? Also it's already been established, some areas of the game have more debris, some don't. It's a huge map. Not to mention the people coming out and commenting on how it looks better in person. And lifeless, the new footage today and last week showed more npc behavior than we saw in the reveals. I already posted a gif of the xb1 build with more clutter as well. People are incredibly unspecific as to what constitutes a "downgrade" from a technical perspective. So let's actually go through what they promised visually:
-SSR-->check
-Seamless transitions between interiors and exteriors--->check
-Dynamic weather effects and day/night cycle--->check
-Cluttered environments-->check, this area has more clutter than that original demo

What?

Who waited years to show extra footage? The game has been shown in some form at almost every major game conference the past 3 years. Multiple vid docs, it was playable at tons of shows, it had an alpha, and has a beta coming up. They have let youtubers have extended time with the game so there are literally hours and hours of footage and impressions readily available.

Massive and Ubi have been pretty damned transparent about this games development. ANY game shown while in development for 3 whole years is going to go through a ton of changes. Game development is a very dynamic process.

All in all the game looks pretty damned close to the reveal, even on Xbox One. Volumetric smoke, lit particles, bokeh DoF, car door shutting cover mechanics, holographic hud, dynamic weather and shaders, screen space reflections, etc etc etc is all still present.

Some things remain in the air, like the Global Illumination system, the fidelity of the destruction system, tessellation, etc. However, the PC version is said to look great, and may indeed have these features present in some form.

I find it a little ridiculous that you can entire opinion of a game on a 3 year old 6 minute video of a work in progress when they have given you so much more incite the entire development process.

It would be one thing if that 6 minute announcement trailer was ALL they showed, then you bought the game, popped the disc in, and OMG it was downgraded. But if that happens now, you're willfully ignorant.

one thing that is rather curious to me though, is that if the PC version is indeed going to look that much better, I'm confused why they're not showing it off (unless they have shown footage already and I missed it)
