Someone says it's just Denuvo, which would mean they likely paid quite a bit for that, but not a cent for Q&A. Tells you all you need to know about Bumco's approach to PC gaming. The PC studio of Zestiria must have been quite passionate to get the game running as well as it did seeing as how the publisher clearly doesn't give a fuck. Even the 60 FPS mod was only possible because parts of it were already implemented, probably by the porting team (or the original developer, which I believe to be unlikely)

Yeah Denuvo v2, I've read Denuvo v3 is already out and was implemented with Rise of Tomb Raider.
That is the funny thing, I think Denuvo protection was more expensive than the whole port efforts for Symphonia.
At least the Zestiria port had a mild form of DRM.
But yeah Bamco fucked up big time with this.
I bet this port was in the works much earlier and was put on the backburner and now they gave the half finished project to another team who weren't given enough time and budget to get it working :lol.
Whatever the underlying issue is, I truly hope the studio working on the port can touch it up to a respectable state. However, Namco just including a shitty DRM just screams "fuck u, u edited zestiria 4 60 fps, if ur not hapy with 30 fps then fuk u hav 720 lolololol"
But that doesn't quite make sense either seeing how Durante's mod for Dark Souls most likely generated a shitload of sales. If anything, what happened there should be a reason to be open to mods.
I feel sorry for anyone who bought Zestria on the Steam Store (rather than elsewhere) specifically for this free copy of Symphonia. I take it Steam refunds can't help here as it is "free" and besides at this point Zestria would have been played for more than 2 hours...hopefully (which is the only route I can see for refunds).
How does one manage to completely ignore the problem of including a localisation but not even spending 5 minutes to check it has a valid font loaded, though even the menu options seem to be machine translated gibberish. It would be better to offer nothing...
Phantasia GBA feels like it had some effort put into it (especially the US version which restores the darker colour palette) but at the same time is just tragic due to sounding worse and playing really slowly when compared to Tales of games that came out on the GBA at the time.

The DRM apparently cost $500. I want to know what percentage of the budget that was.
Especially getting people's hopes up with Zestiria actually being a good port, 30 FPS aside. A lot of people pre-ordered just for Symphonia as well, so it's pretty shitty of them to piss on the early adopters like that :lol. Zestiria actually being a good port and then Symphonia turning out to be a turd is just mindboggling.

This Clumsy Assassin guy is just wow, way to ignore the flaws with this port, and the thing with the French localization is just an ignorant statement. I wonder which nationality he has
$500 that is a lot, 5% were used for the porting job i would guess .
God damn it Bamco, this is embarrassing.
Well uh, his grammar is a little bit messy, most of his points are not even valid or make the slightest of sense.
The last point doesn't hasn't anything to do with the the porting, he is just addressing the game, but that isn't the point of the whole thing.
Original release dates:
Tales of Symphonia
Nintendo GameCube
JP August 29, 2003
NA July 13, 2004
EU November 19, 2004
Ah right that makes sense :lol. I was thinking back to the original 2004 release on the Gamecube. Possibly younger than the actual game then, given the grammar. Or English isn't his first language, then again, neither is mine.
I was looking forward to this quite a bit, shame it turned out to be such a mess, if they ever patch it up a bit I might buy it, but as it is now, I can't support ports like this.
This was going to be an Amazing month for Steam JRPGs, and it's off to a real shit start, I really hope Disgaea and Danganronpa don't fuck this up like Bandai Namco does.
I'm happy Bandai Namco sees PC as a place worthy of selling games now but can you guys put a bit more effort into making the PC port not pure shit? that would be Cool.

Its not Denuvo Anti-Tamper per-ré , just different protection from same company:
This is what protectionId detects
So its most likely some strange new from of Securom combined with WMProtect....
and iirc creators of Securom was Sony DADC which now transformed to Denuvo Software Solutions .... i guess Securom is not entirely dead as we thought
QLOC went above and beyond there seeing as the port was fully acceptable, but missing some minor shader details that were in the Gamecube version, they went ahead and fixed that as well, making it the definitive version of the game.
I suspect not everyone can hire QLOC because of them being busy, they do great work, them and Nixxes are two of the best porting studios in the business, easily. I'd go as far as saying that knowing QLOC is behind a port is essentially a PC Port Seal of Quality at this point . They also went through the effort of making the game run at 60 FPS, which is really impressive.

Yeah, at least they got feedback from people in the Steam forums for RE4 to fix most of the stuff, and in the end it was a fine port, I was pretty satisfied with it.
QLOC and Nixxes are SoQ I agree, Nixxes did great with the Tomb Raider port too.
It still works. The potential copies they could sell are reduced significantly by giving away 50-100k copies already, which is why they probably dcided to not spend a lot of money on it. It's not right, but it's the kind of short-sighted business move I expect these days.

We're in the same boat.
His bad grammar also doesn't read as a non english native making mistakes, but rather a young native with poor grammar and misspells coming from the web/sms culture.
Anyway I read it as a troll at first, so knowing that it's serious I just couldn't figure someone older than... 16 writing something like this and thinking it was fine.
Is he/she Asian?
Maybe that's the reason the English grammar is so "horrible?
Yeah well firey passion is okay, but you also have to see the flaws and not behave like a kid or something.
@LORD
GC emulation is better than PS2 emulation, PCSX2 has more emulation flaws.
Dolphin has no steam achievements and emulation is much more demanding than the port. I don't see how that solves anything, we should ask Bamco to fix the port, we should insist on it, for future releases as well.
That's only solution.
Fairly confident this is a troll though, unless the Gamecube version is the worst version.
Edit: If we took the same group of defenders back to the Gamecube days and let them at the PS2 port, I can fucking guarantee they'd bitch about it being 30 FPS.
While QLOC generally does a good job. I don't think the weird Gamma issues with RE4HD were ever patched (Pure white was almost grey. Image was dull and washed out.). And Zestiria was apparently also ported by QLOC but the game has massive stuttering issues thanks to a brain dead frame limiter/pacer that was never fixed.
Though ...those issues not being fixed probably isn't their fault.
That's my point, the Gamecube version is essentially the best, extra content or no, it's the only version of the game that runs at 60 FPS (sans overworld) .

Actually they added in several post process colour correction settings, one which was made specifically to resemble the Gamecube original as close as possible.

Oh yeah I forgot. I think Bamco has a problem with communicating with outsourcing teams like in this case QLOC.
Zesty was still better than this mess we have here. I really want to know what was going on behind the curtain while they were porting Symphonia.
@Easy
I agree on that, one of the reasons I'm thinking of getting it for GC and play it on there.
So this was just a rush job to increase Zestiria pre-orders? The stuff mentioned in the OP is insane, it gets to a point where there's not only a huge lack of respect for their customers and their onw IP but also no concern about their reputation as a publisher.
I just logged on to Steam to buy it, because when I checked Saturday the had the price listed, but today the game just disappeared unavailable for purchase in my region. Thanks Bandai Namco, what a rotten company.

If you have a decent enough computer you could emulate it in Dolphin too for HD graphics and 60 FPS. The original game was 4:3 but you can input cheats/hacks to get proper 16:9 support, think someone mentioned there was a HD HUD re-texture going on as well earlier in the thread.
