Wait, so when I research and build things like mag weapons, I only need to do it once and then everyone gets access to them?

What's your system? I haven't had a single crash and I've been playing non-stop.

Also, Vipers and Lancers are easy to counter. Rangers with upgraded swords do a number on Vipers while overwatch takes care of Lancers fairly easily. Flashbangs help too.

Also, regarding the Faceless: having a couple of guys on overwatch does wonders for them. Not to mention they go down pretty easy with swords and shotguns.

My current set-up is two blade-Rangers, one combat drone specialist, a mixed grenadier, and one pure sniper. I unlocked the sixth slot a couple of hours ago, but I don't really need the extra guy. Most pods activate with 3-4 guys, and it's pretty straightforward to take out the first two with the rangers and clean up after.

It never fails. Spend a couple of minutes to read through this and really, any thread on the game. The tech problems are super well-documented. It's nice that some folks never seem to have issues with the New Vegas', Arkham Knights and such of the world.

Secondly, while I appreciate the friendly advice, my particular problem with Lancers and Vipers isn't their basic abilities. There were some broken elements I was pointing out during a mission. Seemingly bugs. Nothing worth getting to worked up about - hence the jokey nature of that part of my post - but all the friendly advice in the world isn't going to help when enemies can attack through walls. I don't think that was supposed to happen.

Same with the range of the snake tongue attack. There was a weird hiccup in the game when it happened and my dude like, teleported a couple spaces through a rock wall and then the animation triggered.

Neat. That's 19 Damage x 2 at 93% with Rapid Fire.

This game is utter bullshit. A snake that can grab a guy from 6-7 squares away, while in full cover and stun batons that can apparently, hit a guy inside a building, through a brick wall. Rassum frasssum. Firaxis "balance" at it again. Reload.
I'd highly suggest a concealed ranger and 2 flashbangs early on so you can prepare for what is ahead.

I did have to restart a Mission where the pokeball teleported into fog of war and didnt display animations, then teleported back to attack my squad for a total of 30 damage, but so far only 1 or 2 huge things in 30 hours

Ladies, gentlemens, traitors... the time has come.

P74JSCO.png

Rules:

  • Only one character per user. This may change in the future, but let's keep it simple for now.
  • Biographies must be written in English.
  • Your GAF handle must be used as Last Name. The idea of this Character Pool is to play with characters representing GAF users, not with characters created by them. You can use whatever you want as First Name and Nickname.
  • "Can Appear as Soldier" must be checked. If you also want to check to be a VIP (AKA Scientist or Engineer at random) and/or a Dark VIP (AKA guy to kidnap or assassinate), it's alright.
  • Be civil. We are (mostly) adults here, but let's try to not create something too offensive.
  • If in the future you want to update your character, just send it again.
  • The downloadable file will be constantly updated with new submissions.
Useful info to know:

  • If you leave the Nickname blank, the game will randomly give you one when promoted.
  • If you want to leave your First Name blank, you can use Alt-0160 to type a blank space.
  • If you use any prop included in a DLC, those who may don't have it will see a default/random prop.
  • Selecting a class does not guarantee you will be promoted to it when the games selects you to be a rookie.
  • You can change what source of characters the game priorizes when it needs to add more guys, Character Pool or Random dudes. By default, it mixes both. To do so, open this file with a text editor (Notepad, Notepad++...): "Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\Config\XComGameData.ini" and search for the next lines:
    InitialSoldiersCharacterPoolSelectionMode=eCPSM_Mixed
    Affects starting characters.
    RewardUnitCharacterPoolSelectionMode=eCPSM_Mixed
Affects characters appearing as mission rewards.
    RecruitsCharacterPoolSelectionMode=eCPSM_Mixed
    Affects recruitable characters.
You can change the "Mixed" (Pool and Random dudes for equal) on each line with "PoolOnly" or "RandomOnly" to force the game to use only characters from each source. As far as I know, if there aren't enough Pool guys the game will spawn extra Random dudes when needed.
How to join GAF-COM:

  • Create your character using the Character Pool -> Create Character tools in the Main Menu.
  • Export your character, selecting it and using Export Selection. Create a new Character Pool with your GAF name, and select it, appearing a confirmation message. This should create a 3-4KB .bin file with that name at "Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\CharacterPool\Importable"
  • Send that file to the email address you'll see here --> <-- when quoting this message, including in the email the next information:
    GAF username:
    Full character name:
How to use the Pool:

  • Download the GAF Pool file from the link below.
  • Copy the GAF-COM.bin file to "Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\CharacterPool\Importable"
  • Go to the Character Pool screen, Import Character, and select GAF-COM.
  • Select "Import Entire Pool" to add everybody to your Character Pool, or add single characters one by one.
Download link: Not yet.

--------

For future reference, you'll find all this information in the second and third post once Sober updates them.

10-20FPS in everything besides combat, freezes, CTDs....for all the shit Namco/Ubi/WB get, none of the big name debacles even come close to how terrible, performance-wise, this has been. It's embarrassing that this was pushed out in this state and that it's been hand-waved away by most media outlets. Firaxis is Bethesda-tier, now.

Agreed. Firaxis is has been added to the list of companies that I don't buy games from on day one anymore.

Fucking cars as cover man... Faceless spawns, walks up to my hacker, smacks her in the face for 3 which is fine but apparently his attack is a huge arc so it hits the car too, it blows up and kills my hacker. Explosion doesnt even hit him either

Once I finish a veteran playthrough, will definetly use GAF soldiers on commander.

That's right, I want you for the higher difficulty.

Can someone explain the radio relays to me?

Should you build them in all zones? What do they provide, besides raising zone income? This was explained very badly in the tutorial, and I am planning to restart, since my game was slouching more and more towards disaster after every operation....

Damn, it all started off easy enough, I only lost a few rookies. But now, after my first
skulljacking
I keep finding
Codexes
on every mission. Sometimes even two of them with a goddamn MEC on top, like a bloody grenade-toting cherry of armored destruction. I'm losing soldiers left and right.

I don't know if it's harder than the first game or if I just massively screwed up in the meta-game rushing objectives too fast.

They also decrease Intel cost for contacting adjacent territory.

I feel like the longer I play this, the more busted my saves get or something. Glass windows and doors just straight up don't animate anymore.

I love it when something that makes sense it should work that way actually DOES work that way.

Step 1: Blow a hole in the roof.
Step 2: Call Skyranger
Step 3: Indoors extraction.

Took a bite out of the Avatar tracker and prevented a free +2, so last session was an effective -4 doom dots. And I'm closing in on another facility. I think the next three things I'll build are a Power Relay,
the Shadow Chamber, and the Psi Lab. It's time to get mental.

By the way, thank you for the Skulljack warning.
That would have gotten ugly in a harder mission. Suddenly, Codex!

Yeah me too, I get more and more animation bugs.
Latest being my ranger being bound by a Viper, but setting itself free with bladesrorm. The ranger spent the rest of the mission it the bound animation (meaning it teleported to the location when I moved her, as the running animation couldn't trigger, same for when she was shooting).

I had my first crash that borked my retaliation mission that was going perfectly. Now I'm trying it again, this time I'm surrounded on three sides, with one man downed by a lid, and no armor upgrades after 20 hours of gameplay.

This was during a regular mission so no pic of that. Just add 25 :p

Yeahhhhhh this is my good Commander run and I didn't get Predator Armor till June. Didn't help I didn't know what tech tree was or what to build.

It's incredible how much you improve in this game. I just completely wiped the first blacksite mission with a flawless ranking, due to having a much better hang of the game's systems and of course knowing what to expect. Helps that I researched gauss and magnetic weapons beforehand, too.

Now I've finally gotten soldiers to Captain rank and these skills are getting insane o_O

Restarted. 3 perfect missions. Then I get a rescue mission and all the civs are in a big circle jerk on the opposite side of the map. I get to watch them get slaughtered while i'm held up by wave after wave.

This happened to me a couple times. I have no idea if completing that mission was even possible.

Does the new armor give recovery free HP like in Enemy Unknown? Like the first four HP don't count when considering injuries?

Started a new playthrough earlier today after having countless squads wiped out and man i've been WHOOPING ASS. Did the blacksite mission without any casualties :D

I only have access to XCOM 2 via Steam family sharing, and I keep on telling myself I'll just wait for more patches and a summer sale (and maybe a new GPU) before I jump in with a full playthrough, but it's so hard to pull myself away.

God damn it, lost my best ranger (Lt. with bladestorm) because I was stupid and activated a pod at the end of my turn. Shouldn't have been so greedy and remembered that my specialist can hack objectives at a range.

It's a common thing to hear. Flashbangs are fucking amazing. They're almost too good.

They are too good. I played a shit ton of EW, including LW and flash grenades are literally the only reason I haven't failed so far. Otherwise I'd have to save scum every single mission.

Second playthrough is definitely going to be more fun, although the game has hooked me enough to not want to go back to Enemy Unknown.

Why are flashbangs so good besides breaking mind control?

Hmmm this game looks amazing, but a combination of lack of time and too many games that have yet to be finished have got me wondering if I should get this or wait till later.

So X-GAF, guide me!

Operation: Tomb Walker
Enemies Detected: Everything. Just, everything. No wait...ELITE everything. Scary giant eyes? Check. Teleporting cyber wizards? Check. Giant fucking robots? Double MacCheckin burger.
Threat Level: Imagine the deepest, scariest shade of red ever conceived.

I regret building the thing that gives the pre-mission data.

GAF-COM already has 5 recruits. Keep them coming!

And yes, if a Character Pool was created with a nickname assigned, it will have it even as rookie.

Is there a reason that GAF handle is last name and not nickname?

It uses last names as reference when you sort the character list, so is easier to find who do you want to sacrifice in that mission. Also, a bit of legacy on how has usually been done in EU/EW. And it gives some extra freedom to everyone, as you may not want to define a Nickname but you are forced to use a Last Name*.

And are you telling me your name is not really Falk? I don't believe you!

*Technically you are not as you can use a blank space there too (ALT-0160), but that would be too boring here :p. First Names are just not shown in game 90% of the time.

Unforunately this game is an unstable mess for me. Never had ANY probelms with XCOM nor with other recent games like Tomb Raider.

First I've played the tutorial until in the later cutscene (where you capture this character and bring him to the base) the sound just muted and started again but 1 minute late/off-sync. ALT+F4 (didn't want to miss dialog). Today I was going to start the tutorial again, changed my mind, got back to the main menu and wanted to skip the tutorial. After clcking "activate Ironman mode" the game froze and crashes Steam entirely. Restarted everything, wanted to start again WITH tutorial mode and the game froze again after 5sec of the first cutscene (that had no sound, again, in those 5 seconds).

Any tips? Graphics drivers are up to date.
