I've been flying alone on the regular since I was 5, so, it's pretty well second nature at this point.
Have trouble sleeping on them, but love looking out the window and just generally relaxing.
Worst flight has to be between one when I was 14, and my last flight.
The one when I was 14, it was from Melbourne to Hobart on Tiger Airways. My aunt and I were rushing to their terminal, and my aunt literally dislocates her knee on the way. We get there, there's about 5 minutes before check in closes, but they refuse to check me in, saying they already finished the paperwork and didn't want to do it again. This is the last flight to Tasmania on any carrier that day, and my aunt was taking her own flight back to Canberra in a few hours. So, while my aunt is a crying mess in the corner, cradling her knee on the phone to my mother to tell her, I walk up to the desk, and just ask "What are you going to do with me overnight? I'm 14, I'm an unaccompanied minor for this flight, and it's the last back to the state today. I'm your responsibility, who's going to take care of me? Where are we going to stay tonight? What flight will I be put on tomorrow?" I just see them go pale and freeze up in panic, before they stutter that they'll ask if they can redo the paperwork. They literally push me through security, telling me I'll miss the plane otherwise... The plane that arrived over an hour later. Tiger, Australia's worst air carrier I swear.
My last flight was from Sydney to Philadelphia, so, a grand total of 26hrs of travel. SYD-LAX was alright, and so was LAX-DTW (I think that's the shorthand for Detroit). I land in Detroit, the Delta app tells me my plane onwards has been delayed by 2hrs. No big deal, I get some dinner and head to the gate. One of the other passengers explains that we were waiting on a plane to come in from Minnesota, they had people connecting onto our flight and we're delayed. After a while though, they take the plane that was at our gate waiting for us for some other flight, and now we have to wait on a plane from Minneapolis. That's another 2hr delay. Midnight, plane from Minneapolis arrived...and our pilots time out, they're not allowed to fly anymore hours. So, we have to wait another 4hrs from a plane from Boston, and then as we're boarding the plane 8hrs after we were supposed to depart, Control tried to make us change planes (which fortunately, ground staff talked then out of). But it gets better, I arrive in Philly, I joke to my boyfriend about how the cherry on the cake of this bullshit would be if they lost my luggage. Well... Turns out my luggage obviously wanted to see the strip, because it got sent to motherfucking Las Vegas. I didn't even stop in Vegas. When I do get it back, they've broken a few of my possessions in transit (I have a hard case, I went and got good quality proper luggage for my overseas trips). I get in contact to try and get some reparations for the broken stuff, but, it was qualified as 'extraordinary circumstances' and as far as they were concerned, not their problem.
I actually had a pretty good impression of Delta from the last time I came over, but this time, not so much
