I like how fast it gets you to your destination (relativaly), the sensation of taking of, the people from all over the world you see at the airport, and, when I have a good flight, the 'me-time' you get to read or watch a movie (but I find that more easy to do on the train). Also, the view from the windows when passing over a city. I fly to Portugal a lot, and flying in on Lisbon is awesome, because usually the plane needs to turn over the city, giving you an awesome view of the city and the Tagus from above. Last spring we flew over Paris on a clear day, and you could make out the Eiffel Tower and other monuments. Just incredible!
I don't like a lot about it too:
- the security checks. Especially the X-ray thing for your lugage. I find it very stressfull to have to make sure you have nothing in your pockets while a line of people is waiting behind you and the security people are urging you on. I'm used to flying now, so I manage to do it on an automatism now, but there was a time I forgot my belt or watch all the time and could expect a pat-down.
- The waiting. Oh god, the waiting! I'm always way to early at airports because of fears of long lines or porblems at the security check (almost missed my flight once because every person in front of me needed a pat-down), so I tend to sit around in the airport A LOT. Some airports have nice shops to visit, but some are really barren or borring, especially when you fly low-cost.
- The space in the plane. I'm nog the biggest person (1m79), but I have long legs and I have a hard time getting comfortable in a plain.
- the fluctuating prices. You never really know if you got a good price or not, because a week after your booking prices could plummet or rise.
