http://www.theguardian.com/film/201...x-proyas-calls-film-critics-diseased-vultures

The $140 million film never recovered from the controversy and became the biggest box office flop of 2016 when it opened in the U.S. over the weekend with takings of $14 million.

Proyas embarked on a lengthy rant at critics on Facebook.com, accusing them of not "thinking for themselves" and simply giving his film a bad review because everybody else had.

He writes, "NOTHING CONFIRMS RAMPANT STUPIDITY FASTER... Than reading reviews of my own movies... This time of course they (critics) have bigger axes to grind - they can rip into my movie while trying to make their mainly pale a**es look so politically correct by screaming 'white-wash!!!' like the deranged idiots they all are.

"Lock a critic in a room with a movie no one has even seen and they will not know what to make of it. Because contrary to what a critic should probably be they have no personal taste or opinion, because they are basing their views on the status quo. None of them are brave enough to say 'well I like it' if it goes against consensus."

while I believe he has a tiny germ of a point, but I think the bigger issue is he made a fuck ass movie.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Did Armond White love it though?

I kind of want to agree with some of his points about critics getting caught up in a groupthink, but there's enough films with very mixed reviews that it's dumb to say they never speak up for/against the consensus

Sorry guy, I could smell shit the first minute into the trailer. That is why I stayed away. I didn't need other people to tell me that.

The film does not deserve to be taken seriously. It's mind boggling to me that millions of dollars were spent to make a movie like this in 2016.

I really liked a lot of the visual design, even if the actual quality on the screen was shit most of the time.

Ultra thin story and characters definitely didn't help.

So is he going to throw the #SJW around next? Such a weak minded person this is.

Damn, I was hoping this was just him doing whatever to make some money cause I really like Dark City. But he seems real invested in this...

Proyas :(

The Crow will always be in my top 10 films, and I really need to see Dark City someday. The whole thing is just sad.

I've come to REALLY hate the term "Politically Correct".

99% of the time it's assholes exposing themselves as closet bigots.

He's right you know.

Most of the people commenting in the thread or twitter haven't even watched the film and are just regurgitating what the revierews have said or thier own bias just from watching the trailers.

I'm 32. When I was in like 15 and younger, "Politically Correct" used to mean being "polite".

Weird how many people hate it when you are polite and/or thoughtful.

I still don't understand why this movie was made at all.

We haven't had an mindless popcorn Egyptian action movie in some time, bless Brendan Fraser's soul, but an Ancient Egypt focused movie which somehow out-whited Exodus: Gods and Kings, which had Jesse Pinkman for fuck's sake, was just bound to fail.

This would have been a movie acceptably released some time after Universal's Mummy movie hit and people were suddenly interested in pyramids again. And for the love of all that is holy, don't cast a Scottish guy and a Danish guy as the two leads.

The way he talks reminds me of people who shit talk online by starting their sentence fragments with capitalization and ending with periods, to make themselves look more sophisticated. Critic should have just replied with "zzzzzzzzzzz"

Let's be honest here. It's pretty easy to guess how bad the film is judging from the preview clips they released (i.e. Chadwick Boseman hamming it up to the nth degree, poor action sequences and dodgy CGI).

Damn Proyas...loved a lot of your movies in the past, but you're digging your own grave on this! Movie looked like ass, like others have noted I didn't need to read a review to understand that.

They told me I never actually had fun watching 300 in the first place. My feelings were wrong.

Saying that. This movie is most likely...not good. But I bet it's not the worst.

Sometimes you can actually tell a movie will be terrible without seeing it.

And there's plenty of people who did watch it, and hate it

I really used to like his movies ten, fifteen years ago.

I agree that he does have a small point, but on the other hand I do suspect honestly that Gods of Egypt is probably just a shitty film.

Agreed, wholeheartedly.

Now whenever I see the term being bandied around, it's almost exclusively used by people who are closet bigots and love to complain about PC culture.

Because being considerate of others is suddenly a crime :/

Christ at that FB chain, "the nobility of your species"? Oh lawd.
The majestic critic prowls the jungle in search of its prey. Straightening his thick rimmed glasses and with a bottle of wine in tow, only the most succulent of preys will do. He approaches the river. The critic glances at the nearby movies to find the right one. And when it does the critic begins its hunt. Chasing after the politically incorrect movie, the critic is quick to pounce and bite at its neck. The poor film never stood a chance. The critic lets out a mighty roar of 'four out of ten' signaling his pride that it is time to feed.

Truly a noble species.

If the movie was good I'm quite sure they would look over the cast. If the cast was played by all Chinese people and amazingly awesome, no one would deny it's awesome, while still saying the cast is out of place for a Egypt movie.

It's funny when the reason to see the movie is the graphics. At least transformers had the franchise and the whole robots in disguise theme (that's about all it had, including the graphics, sadly).
