The whole 'he shouldn't have tapped' is the stupidest thing I've read on this forum for ages. Let's move on.

At least he didn't tap to strikes. I think that's the most cowardly thing a professional prize fighter can do.

It shows heart, and balls. I agree it might seem kind of stupid but man... he could've lasted at least a couple seconds more?

Why though? This is so stupid. He had no chance to get out of that choke. Why wait a couple more seconds? Jesus.

Holly was dumb for not tapping before passing out, not ballsy.

I disagree. The state he was in, he knew taking that fight to the ground meant swift defeat.

This is the dumbest shit I've ever heard (well aside from the tap out shit). Taking it to the ground was dumb, but fighters do it out of desperation, not as a way of giving up.

He didn't want to get ko'd and found a way out between Nates legs. He gave up when he became a panicked wrestler, long before he tapped.

McGregor was done and wanted out. Dude was gonna get knocked by a guy that has only TKOed no chin Maynard in the last like 6/7 years of his career.

So instead of getting knocked he went with getting choked with a quick tap.

Yeah obviously there's the idea of buying time/energy but he's an awful ground fighter that went for a double against a top ground fighter with like no intention other than laying on him.

There is some amazingly dumb shit being spewed in this thread. I wonder if some of these people have actually watched MMA or just watch the highlights on Sportscenter.

I don't think he went to the ground asking to be choked. He went there because he had no choice and it was an act of desperation. He was rocked and not going to punch his way back. He went down hoping that there was a slim chance he could tie up Nate or ride it out until the end of the round.

No where else to go other than down.

Fan interest and appeal does not make her deserving. I'm taking about what has she done to deserve a title shot? She stepped away after a brutal loss and may not return for nearly a year. You have fighters who are actually doing something to put themselves in a position get a shot.

6 months of that year is the medical suspension. That means she's technically not even cleared to train for 6 months. Then she's got to get back into shape after that 6 month layoff and try to improve before the next fight.

And to be honest.. not many of the women in the division are actually doing anything to advance themselves. There's some shuffling at the lower end of the top 10 but the Top 5 really aren't moving much. Every time a fighter stacks some wins to build they would fight Zingano or Tate or even Nunes and catch an L, halting their march to a title shot.

Hell even last night proved that Holm likely wouldn't have passed the gatekeepers had she faced them before she fought Ronda. Her two previous fights were Pennington and Reneau, who aren't even top 10. So the UFC leapfrogged her past Zingano, Tate, et al to get that style fight and undefeated vs undefeated by line.

Don't be surprised if you see Holm slowly slip down the rankings when she has to fight more well rounded talent in the division that isn't going to foolishly run into her striking.

Yup.

Ronda getting an immediate title shot over Holm is obvious favoritism. She stepped away from the game and had no intention of coming back anytime soon until after last night.

She shouldn't be #1. Miesha's the champ, Holm should be #1, Ronda at 2.

Without the protection of the belt Holly's gonna be quietly tossed out the back door for tarnishing the golden Rousey.

I doubt that. A Holly/Ronda rematch would do massive numbers, moreso if Ronda is coming off of beating Miesha's belt for the title and looking like the Ronda of old. Dana would make that fight in a Jon Jones heartbeat.

Holm will be back. I still think she beats Miesha 3 times out of 4 because of her strong takedown defense.

She lost because she looked for a strong finish and let her guard down just long enough to get caught. She fights cautiously like she did in rounds 3 and 4 and she easily wins on points.

Lol at the few people still saying Conor was dominating the fight until the end. Wtf fight were you watching? Despite the blood, the first round was a toss up, and in the second Diaz was playing with him once he learned the distance. At no point did Diaz look like he was in trouble, while Mcgregor looked really fucking nervous after he discovered Diaz's chin is made out of iron.

I don't know about easily and Tate isn't the only one in the division she'd have to look out for. Zingano, Pena, McMann, and Eye all have the toolset to beat Holm.

You have no business laughing at people if you think the first round was a "toss up". Conor won it decisively. Just because he didn't knock Nick silly doesn't mean he wasn't winning the fight. It was a less than 2 round fight so saying "so and so was dominating until he lost" is pointless anyway.

Think that desperation takedown might've been my favorite bit, it was so good lol.

Conor was right about this being a showcase fight, got to see him wobbled on the feet and finished on the ground, can't ask for much more.

and perhaps she doesn't remain stagnant as a fighter. She'll most likely have a better ground game next time out. Lord knows it isn't her striking that she needs to work on at this point.

I'd like to see some people around here feel the effects of a RNC on your consciousness because of the lack of brain perfusion and still talk about tapping too early. You can literally put someone to sleep by massaging their necks if you know where to, let alone squeezing it.

So not worth it
I stormed in and put it all on the line. I took a shot and missed.
I will never apologize for taking a shot.
Shit happens.
I'll take this loss like a man. I will not shy away from it. I will not change who I am. If another champion goes up 2 weights let me know.
If your tired of me talking money, take a nap.
I'll still be here when you wake up with the highest PPV and the gate. Still talking multi 7's.
Thank you to the true support and fuck the hate that came out of the woodwork. I love it all. Its still steak for breakfast.
I've been here many times in my life in some form or another. I'll eat it all and come back stronger.
Aldo you are a pussy. Dos anjos you are a pussy.
When the history books are written, I showed up. You showed up on Twitter.
To the fans! Never ever shy away from challenges. Never run from adversity. Face yourself head on.
Nate I will see you again.

Taking the L properly here, respect to Conor for his comments post-interview and the demeanor in the post-presser as well.

He was done. A smart fighter knows when he's been bested. What exactly does going to sleep accomplish? That's stupid meathead mentality.
From the fans, yes.

But whether they tap out quickly or not at all, I can respect both mentalities in fighters and wouldn't berate someone for doing one or the other. Respect to Holm for not giving up and respect to McGregor for knowing when he was beat.

But What Would War Machine Do?
:lol

really disappointed in Tatcht and McGregor's quick taps to those rear naked chokes.

Faber was so right, McGregor does quit. if you look at the chokes, McGregor still could have fought that choke by prying off Nate's hand from his head. unlike Tate's choke, there's nothing that Holm could have done against that.

Not only have I seen Nate fight before, I watched him get his soul taken live by Bellator midcarder Josh Thomson.

What about Conor getting his soul taken by certified tomato can Joe Duffy?

So glad to see another hype train derailed. Makes McGregors claims to the WW belt even more laughable. Diaz schooled him, he was gassed in round 1. Against Lawlor, he'd break like water on rocks

Um,ok. Connor was laid out flat on his belly, there is no MMA fighter that could've gotten out of that RNC. Connor put himself in that shitty position after he got rocked, but don't tell me he could've gotten out of that choke once Nate locked it in.

It's only an rnc from Nate Diaz though, Connor probably could have gotten out of it.

You couldn't break that hold if your grandpa put it on you. Lay flat on your stomach, let anyone that weighs as much as you put you in a RNC, and see how easy it is to break out of it.
