Tequila Works reaquired the rights to RiME

Has been in my top most wanted list for years ( http://www.themasquera.de/upcoming-games/ )
Can't believe Sony would drop a project like that (in the vein of Team Ico). Usually they are the only big player out there supporting true work of art in the business. Too bad they have one less exclusive now, oh well. Still can't wait for the experience (Deadlight was great as well).

So the real challenge for the studio was to put that vision into the final game. And apparently this has been impossible to achieve.

Damn. I feel so betrayed right now, Rime looked like the Team Ico homage I've been hoping someone would make for years. Now we know it was all just lies and the studio are incompetent to boot. :(

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
All this info comes from a source very close to the studio.

First of all, I was told that the reveal trailer was all cinematic. It was faked to mimic gameplay, assets, etc. from a real game but 0% of the game was implemented.

So the real challenge for the studio was to put that vision into the final game. And apparently this has been impossible to achieve.

This words are a direct quote from my source about this news and the studio itself (it contains his personal opinion):

"Sony required about one month ago the DEV KITs to be returned and canceled the fundings into Tequila Works, due of the game had no-sense. Basically there wasn't a game.

This is a consecuence of the bad studio direction, basically Raul Rubio thinks that he is the next Tim Schafer. The truth is that Raul was fired from MercurySteam. The people from MercurySteam speak really bad about him (the main critics are: he has no idea about games, technology and he has crazy ideas without sense). If you add that his wife is the chairman of Tequila Works and looking for info about her you can find this:

http://www.notariado.org/liferay/we...4233524_ELIG_NOT_PARAM_SITUACION=AC&FLAG=MAIL

You could see that she is public notary in Spain. She hasn't any background making games. The results are, that Rime has no publisher and it is not cancelled due of they got public spanish founds to develop games:

http://www.minetur.gob.es/PortalAyu...nts/Listado_PropuestaProvisionalConcesion.pdf

If you take a look into their website and you compare the hellworkers list with the original team from Deadlight , only a couple guys remains from the original team. If all the team has left the studio, you must think that something wrong there is into the top of the company."

I'm a bit sad to be honest since i was there in the first days of the studio (not working).
Well that's disheartening...here I thought they were setting standards in the character animation of smaller games. :(

Blame the impressionable kids who fell for it.

The concept was gorgeous and it was quite clearly inspired by Team ICO games. Not to mention that at the time when it was announced, it was very unique looking, hell the island aesthetic they came up with is still great looking.

And wtf? The audience is to blame?

The devs are dickholes. The game is obviously a giant mess. They messed up with Sony - good luck with your future partnerships. Nobody has seen or knows anything of the game. No release date. This will indeed go up in smoke and they indeed kind of deserve it. Keep laughing in your whatsapp group buddy.

This is a major bummer to read about. I was very excited for this game to reappear at E3. It'd be great if these rumors are false but it's not looking good...

Wow why don't you pick a side already lol

The game looked amazing in the unveil trailer.

That little teaser/trailer made you all nuts over the years. You haven't even seen a single preview, longer gameplay. In more than 2 fucking years. Yet some of you come here and are shocked and battered.

All this because of a game that tries to play into the ICO niche with a few seconds of material.

This studio doesn't seem to deserve any future attention for now until they show barenaked gameplay.

This game will release after The Last Guardian. Let that sink in. The initial reveal was great but nothing up until now has inspired confidence.

Ironically, this is quite, if not eerily, similar to the Castlevania LoS II development hell story from an alleged employee (regarding LoS II's quality not living up to the original LoS), that was floating around the internet during it's release timeframe. The design director was at the center of that story in the same fashion as this developer is. I'm all for the innocent until proven guilty way of looking at things but, weird that two people who worked/work at mercurysteam, are being accused of almost same behavior by their staff. Wonder what's the curse with that studio, lol

For what it's worth, Raul Rubio only worked on LOS I. He's been with Tequila Works since January 2010. Not saying there aren't any parallels between the projects, but he wasn't there for LOS I's release, let alone LOS II.

This makes me sad. But on second thought I was excited for this at first because I wanted a Team ICO type of game and I thought TLG was dead.

Tequila's PR man is saying that they are having a good laugh with this thread in their Whatsapp group. Instead of laughing you could shed some light so people don't spread "misinformation", don't you think?

Wait. So this game has been in development hell for more than 2 years. The publisher has pulled out. And all on the internet people talk about your game as if it was dead.

And the devs PR response to that is "laughing"?

Really? Not worried? Not wanting to set the record straight? Not upset? Laughing?

Seems like this developer has more issues than just development. If this is the way you think about your project. If you don't care about how the outside world, your future customers, looks at your game then i don't know what to say.

Damn shame, that E3 trailer was awesome.

Disappointed to hear this game has been so troubled. I still use a few stills from the original trailer in my desktop wallpaper rotation.

Do kind of wonder how they managed to string it out this long if there was very little in the way of actual product to show.

Well they can just go fuck themselves then. Was looking forward to this game since it was announced. They are either fools, incompetent, or in such a bad situation that they have to laugh at this whole thing. They need a new PR person to actually shed some light on if a game is coming.
So wait...you're saying that their reaction to a thread of unsubstantiated slander being laughter is a reason they should go fuck themselves?

I think it might be more about them laughing rather than setting the record straight and actually informing gamers about what's really happening...

Sad to hear but Sony doesn't just drop a game from their publishing list unless they have every reason to do so.

Sounds like those rumors are true and this game was nowhere near completion, let alone being able to show its true potential.

Apparently not only politicians steal public money in Spain. Now even citizens do that, apart of cheating big companies.

Enough of this. This game was in my list of games to buy in the future. Now I'm not even watching the new trailers. Fuck this shit.

Jesus that's incredibly sad to read.
Was sooo looking forward to this game but I'm shocked to know it was all largely smoke and mirrors.

Not surprised Sony backed out seeing as they'd provided cash and got zero progress on a game being made, makes no business sense to stay in bed with Tequila Works.
Shame it all fell apart.

Fun facts, the amount of money they told to Microsoft that they would pay to the people working on Deadlight didn't exactly match what the workers actually got (they weren't paid even half of it I think, I don't know the exact numbers).

I think you guys are taking this out of hand.

They are laughing at the misconception in this thread, at least from their perspective. I'm sure they have their side of the story and see it differently. No need to say the PR guy needs to lose his job

Yeah right, what about more information on what led to this decision and the status of the game then. Not saying he should loose his job. Buy maybe sober up and actually add value for the fans?

Tequila's PR man is saying that they are having a good laugh with this thread in their Whatsapp group. Instead of laughing you could shed some light so people don't spread "misinformation", don't you think?

is there a screen cap of the tweet? Because it was deleted.

Anyway, looking at his other tweets, he's not saying anything to contradict the rumour. Just saying things like "everything in its time" when it comes to telling more about the game's situation.

Edit: He also said that it's not the studio's fault if there wasn't any news about RiME. So I assume it's Sony's fault according to him.

The game isn't coming out. Ever.

Sony dropping the project was probably doing it a kindness because I have absolutely no faith in Tequila Works to actual deliver anything worthwhile based on the, what I am going to term, speculative outlook.

They were obviously missing deadlines under Sony as a publisher, why would they be able to deliver without a publisher?

They did it with Microsoft, with their employees, and now with Sony. Everyone should be informed about this studio, the bosses there, and avoid working or funding anything there.

Fuck Raul Rubio, his wife, and the rest.

Well thats sad. Was one of the games I was most looking forward to. Of course given the long silence I half expected it to be cancelled.

Gamescom, but yes, those trailers were amazing. Really sad to see the dream crash like this...

This kind of shit just makes me appreciate indie devs doing it right even more.
God bless people at smaller studios like Hello Games going for a true grand ambition and aiming to fulfill their original promises.

They did it with Microsoft, with their employees, and now with Sony. Everyone should be informed about this studio, the bosses there, and avoid working or funding anything there.

Fuck Raul Rubio, his wife, and the rest.

I think with how they've burned large publishers their reputation will take a hit.
Also after all this new info and the PR guy laughing at us all in this thread, I have very little respect for the studio.

Also, I don't know why they're laughing at this thread when people at spanish forums has been leaking that this was smoke and mirrors for years.
