Figured. Probably like Utena TV then at most.

Though that had some stuff way worse than implied yuri.

EDIT: And if I knew the game's setting Id have wanted an English dub after all. Ah well.

I myself wanted an English dub especially for the setting, but the time constraints it seems, and $$$ for high quality VA to portray the characters well didn't seem viable especially for a risky new IP like this.

Hopefully this sells well!

Is it just me or does the game seem to hitch when using finishers/last attack of combo on the enemies. Nothing major, but still drives me a bit crazy.

Hearing that the combat is straightforward is actually a relief. I'm tired of every action game trying to be Devil May Cry. It's still fun to smack fools up the old fashioned way.

Incidentally this also makes the game sound more like Ys.

Comparing with Ys is actually quite right. Though Ys games are a bit faster and include jumps.

If it were like Y's itd be nice.

I ended up not getting too far in the import since I lost interest. I don't expect anything fancy, and mind you, my bar is musou, this is more shallow than that.

It's so simple it's like beginner's Action RPG or something.

The only moment I had any difficulty was towards the end and it went from beginner's Action RPG to "I hope you finished DMC3 on Dante Must Die".

A few level ups later, I managed to beat the bosses.

Unless they changed something in the localization, it's never explicitly implied throughout the japanese version that they have a relationship beyond close friends or sisterly bond anyways.

I have to disagree. If I remember correctly, it wasn't even subtle.

Same.

Also cannot get over how great the soundtrack is.

Just put an hour into this and had a lot of fun. Story/characters are fine so far. I didn't realize I would be collecting/battling with these little monsters or I guess they're called servans. Monster collecting/raising is right up my alley and I'm excited to dig into this more the next time I play.

The Best Buy pre-order themes are fairly plain cropped artwork. The icons end up covering the ladies faces most of the time too.

Looked like extremely cropped version of this and this

Was interested in picking this up at some point, but all these comparisons to Ys and Nier are really making me want to go for it sooner than later.

Prime discount is an added bonus, too. I guess I could fit this in before DS3, yeah?

Guess this'll be my first Gust game, been interested in it for a while. Saw one review that said it reminded them of Nier and Pandora's Tower, two games that I thoroughly enjoyed, so I'm in

Just as a warning, Nights doesn't have the twists Nier has.

It's more like a RPG game with simple Action combat, which does bear similarities to Ys and Nier.

Pandora's Tower story, however, is more similar since the relationship between two characters is what drives the story forward.

Played a few hours tonight and I really like it.

The story and characters are interesting to me so far and building a team of AI controlled monsters that can actually kill things appeals to me a lot.

The transformation system seems pretty cool (even though I just have the first one available to me right now with my current setup).

You know what, I went back to look at some screens and completely forgot about
. It's been a while and the game left a shallower impression on me than I thought. All I remembered was how ambiguous scenes up until that point were, along with the director's comment.

All in all the relationship is yuri enough, though it's still a lot more subdued than the usual kind.

I think its done in a way where they aren't "lesbians" or "gay" per say because who know what Japanese culture says about that, but that they are in fact
in love
without needing to label themselves. I find that kind of refreshing sometimes in a way.

No Vita version for the west?
As of now, they said they're looking into it but want to polish it up first before moving with that idea since it runs pretty poorly. So its a maybe but I wouldn't bet on it.

^This! oh gosh please tell me they don't so I don't have to pay a large amount for them :(

I'm glad I discovered both Gust and Falcom in the last few years mostly thanks to posts here because holy shit the music is always ace.

I didn't mention it in my review but I left my PS4 on with Arnice in the hotel just to listen to the music and look at that big ass piano. Very relaxing.

Falcom and Gust are my favorite when it comes to VGM..

I mean I love Silver Will from TITS, I love now Predge or Slumber, whatever ya call it from Nights of Azure and Paja. This game really has an amazing soundtrack.

Holy cow just checked the US Playstation store and the description for Nights of Azure has so many typos :(. https://store.playstation.com/#!/en...zure/cid=UP4108-CUSA04111_00-DARK000MASTER000

Save the world or the life of one girl... I decide my destiny!

The world was once ruled by the Nightlord. In that world lived a Saint, destined to become a sacrifice to the Nightlord, and a Holy Knight, with the power to use Servans.
The meeting of the girls changed the fate of the world.

Take your Servans and fight accross 'The Land Without Night' for the one you love!

First impressions after about 5 hours or so is a bit mixed. Combat is servicable (it gets the job done), but it's not challenging in the slightest. You really need a good story to back something like that up and so far i'm split on it. Arnice and this night concept is interesting, but Lilysse is drier than dirt. Music is fantastic, and I like the Servan/Transform systems.

Makes me even more angry that the 100$ CE has only disc 1 of the 2 disc OST that Japan got in the premium box. Track 1 of disc 2 is the full Hotel Ende song :/

Also damn that sucks. I also think this will be a very limited physical release for some reason in stores.

My copy should arrive today (EU), been looking forward to it!
I think this will be my first Gust game as well, now that I think about it.

Really interesting game, and man do I love me some Action RPG. But unfortunately it's gonna have to wait for my economy to be a bit better.

Already on my Wishlist, though,

Preordered this months ago but amazon.ca wont ship it for a month :(

Whyyyy.

Also I find it hilarious that Dan is the one doing the GB Quick Look for this game lol.

Enjoying the game so far, just got to the fourth scenario of the first chapter, aside from some of the performance hiccups always stinks in more action hack-n-slash type games. Quick question though so as far as Transformations are concerned you default into Demonic Form unless you have 10 points of one of the other possible options correct?

Unless they changed something in the localization, it's never explicitly implied throughout the japanese version that they have a relationship beyond close friends or sisterly bond anyways.

There is only a single scene at the end that could be considered otherwise, but even that has "circumstances" surrounding it which make it ambiguous.

At best it's a yuri-esque atmosphere, and that still depends on the player's point of view. The developer actually commented that it's up for interpretation, so there's nothing really to censor.

Oh it requires Yuri goggles? Lame

So I take it, if I'm a fan of Ys, this game should be right up my ally eh? Strangely enough the wife picked this up the other day for some odd reason. One of those random purchase.

I enjoy Ys immensely, so I would also like to know this.

Waiting on my EU LE to ship, been interested since announcement. Initial impressions from you lot sound like it will be my cup of tea.

impressions so far!

Game looks beautiful! Specifically the art direction, its just amazing. My friends were surprised how pretty this looks, and they are graphic whores haha.

The combat is very fun and definitely reminds me of Ys. Wish there was a jump button though cause i can't help but press the x button thinking I could jump. Servans are a load of fun and add a lot of dynamic combat into the mix.

Music is just... WOW, this soundtrack is just incredible, you all need to give it a listen on youtube. I bought the LE specifically for the SE and don't regret it one bit.

I'm on chapter 2. (yes i play slow.)

Got through chapter 1, thoughts so far...

  • The translation isn't all that good.
  • The music is great.
  • The events in between chapters are nice. Not great, but they're OK for what they are.
  • The battle system is...okayish? Animations lack impact and there's a lack of good sound effects in battle, so when combined with the merely OK battle system there's not much satisfaction in killing things. But I like the whole "give your party basic commands" aspect and they're loads more useful than the companions in similar games (Nier, Drakengard 3). I haven't played around with much of the battle system yet (only used the basic fire transformation, only have two or three more Servans, haven't invested much in skills) so maybe it gets better.
  • As for whether "yuri goggles" are required: I'd say yes, but very thin ones. I'd be fine calling this a yuri title so far.
  • Sound mixing seems a little off at times.
  • I like how experience is a resource that you can choose to spend on either leveling up your main character, buying things, or obtaining new Servan backup.
Overall it's a pretty good game so far. Not great, but worth the time spent playing it.

Honestly I've been considering picking it up for a while but after reading this thread I think I'll pick it up but only when or if it goes on sale.

To few lesbians in games for me to only want to get for that potentially if the director/writters made it people so could choose to view it as sisterly.

I'll support but not at this price.

I'll just say... if the MC was a guy, they'd still be looked as lovers, not as brothers and sisters. This is anything but sisterly. I have a bunch of ss proof that kind of say they're way more than that lol.

Anyone here get the LE of the game from the NISA store? I still haven't received my gust chan code and ps4 theme. I've contacted support but I still have yet to get a response. Not sure if its a huge problem or if I'm out of the norm.

Also I checked my order to see if the code is there. My order still says processing even though I received the product, and has no code listed.

Got my LE on Monday here. Just got my code for gust chan today. I'm sure you'll get it soon.

I actually like the combat quite a bit. There's not much in terms of combo options for Arnice, but it's mostly centered around working in tandem with your Servans.

I'm a sucker for games that give you competent AI allies that you can manage somewhat but are also capable of killing things on their own.

The combat is quite fun, my only complaint is the lack of a jump button, and the crossbow working terribly on mobs on stairs. Other than that, its really fun and the servants respond very well to commands.

Ugh I hate that double standard.

If this is the case I might get it fp.

its very tame compared to say Dragon age inquistion. But the romance is very much there and you'll feel for the characters as it focuses more on their history, their future and the ups and down they go through when trying to cope with the number one big issue in the story aka world ending and stuff. They are in love. Way more and differently compared to the tales of zestiria Mikleo and whatshisface.

I said it before, but I never saw any sisterly love in there. In the JP version, to me, it was pretty clear cut they were lovers.

I don't know if people are slightly confused about this because they are still in the beginning of the game or if it's because how they choose to translate the game.

I'll upload photos later that pretty much confirm them as lovers. #atwork #bademployee The english translation doesn't hide it at all imo.

I'm still waiting for my copy to ship, before Amazon used to ship it the same day the game released but not anymore... and once it ships it usually takes about 5 days to get to where I live. If it wasn't for the 20% off new games on Amazon I think I would go full digital even though I prefer physical copies.

Anything missable at all in the "Interlude" bits? Or anywhere in the game, for that matter?

Should I be doing all the quests first, then going for the events to complete everything, or do quests pile up?
