Cuphead New Bosses and Shop Gameplay Revealed

Of course you don't, but you also dont have to shit on other developers who are making great pixel art games just because you don't like them. Stop being arrogant.

Onto cuphead, game looks absolutely amazing.

Im not shitting on developers. Im shitting on what I consider to be inferior product. If people cant seperate criticsim of the product from personal or professional criticism, its on them.

You know it's perfect possible to express your preferences regarding something without being a complete jackass about it.

"This is a breath of fresh air compared to the other similar looking platformers I've seen from independents."

But do you, man.

I will thank you. I have no time for flowery language. I call what I consider a spade, a spade. I would expect the same if the situation was reversed.

Maybe just use better language. You come across extremely immature and hostile.

It's cool to not like a particular art style or whatever but just dismissing others you don't like as Shit or crap just makes you look a jackass.

As for Cuphead it does indeed look excellent, though still unsure about gameplay at this moment.

Glad it's coming to Steam too.

Thats the beauty of the internet, all sense of context, nuance and tone is lost by text.

That said, I don't owe anyone anything, you are perfectly welcome to consider me a jackass if I say something in a manner you do not like.
I dont need anyones vaildation of my opinion. I present it in its raw form, if that comes across aggressive or hostile, so be it.

I actually don't feel impatient for this game. Every time we see gameplay, it's clearly a W.I.P, that has many layers left to add.

I'm also always surprised at the doubting of gameplay. The patterns always looked solid to me, there's an obvious "out", and it doesn't seem to be hard to identify.

I really liked that BAMF teleport ability shown in this latest video. And the fact that it stared as such in the flight stage, just like on a grounded one. It helped give personality to each players playstyle, but still in a way that's just as useful.

I really like the Boss-progress meter that you see at the game-over screen as well. That kind of info always helps that "ONE MORE TRY!" feel set in.

While I love the way this game looks, I can't say it invalidates or devalues any other art or style I see in games. I didn't start to hate pencil artwork because digital paints became big. If anything, it's less an alarm to proper pixel art, and more showing how poor flash-style HD animation does at... actually ANIMATING. It's beautiful seeing hand-drawn transitions, transformations, and rotations at work, which almost everything now-a-days would generally leave to 3D work.

(I remember the story of the hand-modeled Rotating tower being made from Styrofoam or such that was mentioned in one of the interviews! I was impressed, even if the interviewer didn't seem to be, haha.)

I haven't gotten to notice this in the game, so I have to ask: Is / are there plans for voice work in the game? I keep expecting to hear lo-fi screams, yelps, and catch-phrases, but I don't think I've noticed any. I keep waiting for the bosses to speak the lines on the Death Certificates, heh.

Finally. A game that really, literally, looks like a proper cartoon instead of a videogame.

Been waiting 2 decades for this.

As you suspected, there'll be barks and squawks and single lines here and there, but no full voice work. As it stands now, Cuphead is like the cartoon protagonist that is mostly silent. He doesn't speak sentences (though everyone around him can) but he can, say, call out for Mugman or yelp in pain. Any full dialogue or story stuff will be in text only. At least at this point.

I can tell there are a lot of really interesting design decisions that have been made in working on this game. If you guys ever release a post mortem of the process I would be fascinated to read it!

I mean, feel free to ask whatever you like and I'll answer it if I can.

This game looks cool, but I was watching some gameplay from IGN yesterday and the intense amount of chromatic aberration in use was really starting to hurt my eyes. When text would come up on screen I could barely watch as my eyes would start to feel strained trying to read it. I'd like to play this game with my wife when it comes out, but I honestly don't think I can handle it.

I believe in the Time article they said you would be able to turn the CA off.

Is the ability to slap pink bullets inspired by the sword in Radiant Silvergun?

The original idea came, literally, from parrying in Street Fighter 3. There were a lot of conversations about being able to parry everything or just certain things and whether there should be a ground/standing version and a whole bunch of other things and it eventually settled down to what is in there now.

Also, the lead designer has a strange affinity for the jump kick in the Genesis version of Batman & Robin (which has a bunch of weird/advantageous properties), which is performed by tapping jump a second time in the air.

Ok, cool, thanks! Sounds good. I keep hearing Woodie Woodpecker and Betty Boop sounds in my head as I watch, ha. Music sounds great too, the description mentioned earlier sounds perfectly memorable.

Okay, that makes sense. I assumed there was a Street Fighter influence since you've got EX and Supers, but parrying specific colored projectiles made me think Radiant Silvergun. I like that you have these influences that people might not expect based on the look of the game, and that it's a very technical game. Thanks for answering.

This is amazing... can't believe how good it looks.

But more than looks, I'm amazed at the creativity of these bosses, they are not static, they change, the use new and unexpected forms, moves, attacks, they reposition every time. It's amazing.

If the game manages to have a side scrolling stage for each boss (for pacing issues) it would be perfect.

Really amazing work in any case, I'm leaning towards buying this day 1 on steam (it would be my first release buy on steam)

Agreed.

Not just the art is impressive, I'm even more blown away (again) by the smoothness of animation. I feel this and Skullgirls are the first two games ever that you genuinely can describe as playable cartoons - heck most modern cartoons don't even have the smoothness and no. of frames of Cuphead anymore these days. Really impressive and a real joy simply to watch it in action!

Gameplay wise it might not fully be for me though, as someone who gets stressed during boss fights in general and avoids fighting them as best as I can in games like Dark Souls. I'd happily give it a shot of course as these quicker paced 2D fights are what I was used to in the 8 and 16-bit days, assuming I'll have a pc that can run it at some point.

I have never had such a visceral, primal reaction to a game's aesthetic like this. It's astounding.

It's not just that I love the look of those classic cartoons, it's that this team has so clearly nailed the style, the look, the feel of them... and made them interactive. Not enough kudos in the world for this.

Looks visually stunning. I can see this being a game me and the roommate can chill too . . . if we don't get our asses kicked :p

I know someone else already stated that Cuphead is going to be on Steam (which is true), I also need to mention that it's going to work on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 as a standard game, as well as have a UWP version on the W10 store.

So everyone can get it in the format they like.

Does buying the UWP version provide access to the game on Xbox One before the anniversary update when the two stores get merged? Or, are they separate SKUs?

It looks amazing, everything about it. Can't wait to play it. Day 1 on PC.

But please don't tell me that it will be Windows Store exclusive!?

Played it at PAX and loved it. Game handed me my ass but it wasn't unfair by any means. Guys there were super nice and loved to chat and give tips. Day 1 for sure. Heres hoping for a mugman mug for my morning coffee.

Jesus Christ, that whole fight with the "Magic Blimp Lady", all those different transformations and that finish. Gaaaaaawd. @_@

With every footage this game keeps looking better.
Sometimes it's frustrating to wait for a game, but in this case I'm fine that the devs are taking their sweet time to add stuff, fine tune, and polish the game.

Tombstone form and retro sci-fi moon form are some of the coolest things I've seen in gaming. It's the kind of over the top craziness I'd expect from a Platinum game.

I'm a bit conflicted on the health meter change. The previous one was really cool & creative, but I can see that it was less functional.

Seeing the loading timer hourglass; I can't help but think it should jump and do a hand stand untill the sand runs dry the other way around, to eventually jump back on his feet again.
Another cool idea: giant monster instrument or musician boss.

It's probably wat too early for that, but I can also see Cuphead as an awesome little collectible figurine ala Transistor X Bigshot Toyworks

My guess is the Devil is the final boss and he's going to be a tough bastard to kill.

The thought of what they could have possibly saved for the finale is so exciting. Every boss we've seen so far has already escalated above most final bosses in games not by Platinum

Still no footage of the platform sections.

I guess those will be kept under wraps until closer to release, but it would be nice to see a small glimpse...

it's really just boss battles? that really just kills a lot of the game imo, having levels with base enemies with this look and gameplay is just what the game really needed. Oh well, will still play it though. It's strange not to see other parts of teh game if they are there

Could you imagine going back in time and showing this to a kid in the 1930s.

"Check out this cartoon"

"Oh, cool I guess"

"Okay now hold this thing, and create the cartoon"

No, the game will have levels, it's the first thing that they say in the video. Anyway, the boss fights are the meat of the game.

I still can't understand what all the fuss is about. The art style looks unique sure but what else?
:(

I really wish this was a proper platform game more than a boss rush mode. Judging by what's been shown platforming levels will be an afterthought.

These kind of reactions sadden me a bit. We get a million 2D platfomers a year, but how many Alien Soldier throwbacks are out there? Hardly any. I hope the platform levels won't feel tacked on as a result of the platform whining.

At least the boss fights look absolutely incredible.

There are platforming sections/levels. That's the reason why it was delayed. MS funding gave them the opportunity to expand the scope of the game.

Maybe there's a reason for that?

Most people will rather play a platform game with an extra boss rush mode rather than just a boss rush mode as the main dish. Here, it just seems all effort has gone into cramming as much eye candy as possible on the screen..
