Ratchet & Clank |OT| The Game based on the Movie based on the Game

Lowering the difficulty won't affect any of the trophies. Feel free to drop it if it is giving you too tough of a time.

Sweet. Good to know, thanks!

Try and tough it out as long as I can.

Also, activating 'cheats' in the menu doesn't effect trophies so try turning the game speed down to make it easier for yourself. Well worth sticking with it, just got my plat today :)

Haha, not sure I'll turn any cheats on. Sully my plat. No thanks! ;)

Fair enough, you're either very brave or a masochist. I just wasn't enjoying trying to get that particular trophy so I deemed it acceptable.

Good luck!

I was going mad with trophy for the first hoverboard race and I just lowered the difficulty and turned on slow gameplay speed. Made it in second try :)

I don't know if this has been answered, but if I see the movie, is the story for this game completely spoiled?

I never understood their vision for this game no matter how many articles and interviews I've read. First I thought it was the original game (story and all) with a new coat of paint and modern gameplay, but they advertise it as "the game based on the movie based on the game."

Having now watched the movie and played the game, yes, the plot lines are basically the same. Many of the game's cutscenes are scenes from the film.

I'd recommend watching the movie first to avoid ruining the story. Both were fun, though.

it's complex. as the movie shifted the origin story a bit so the game's story is shifted to match that and the budget for the game, as well as to integrate some of the film scenes as cutscenes for the game.

Basically if you see the movie, you'll know the basic plot (and some of the changes) - however the game is much longer, ends a bit differently, and is wrapped in Qwark's version of the events. So you certainly wont spoil the whole thing.

Flip side? Play the game, you'll again know the whole story, however there's 75 minutes of the film you won't have seen that deal with a lot of the character moments, a slightly different ending, some ending stingers, etc.

only 15 minutes of the game's cutscenes are from the film.

There's an hour of cinematics exclusive to the game

Fair enough. The game is longer, all of the planet hopping and such doesn't happen in the movie. But the core plot is basically the same across both.

Didn't ruin my enjoyment of it, but it's worth mentioning.

Just had an irritating glitch where the game started playing all dialogue whisper quiet. I was doing the
Deplanetiser
mission, so it was pretty much the worst possible to just be reading subtitles and watching mouths flap silently. Quitting and restarting the game didn't fix it, but thankfully it seems like restarting the whole PS4 has.

I would probably argue that of the two, you should play the game first. While it does make hash out of at least one early cutscene (
Ratchet rescuing Clank in their intro
), I like how it handles some elements (
Zurkons and the RYNO
) better than the movie. (
I wonder if all the good Mr. Zurkon lines were cut for rating reasons?
)

Question about the movie:
They make a big point of not knowing Ratchet's species, but then halfway through they keep referring to him as a Lombax with no explanation.
Did I miss something?

(I mean, I knew that from the other games, I just missed where it was explained to the audience...)

I hope that the home video versions offer some sort of translation for all the greeked text. I caught some of it (
Zoni: Fact or Fiction?
) but I'm sure there's lots of jokes I didn't have time to catch!

I managed to get through about the first 10 minutes of this last night before I passed out asleep. Didn't even get the first gun! Impressions here got me excited to play some more :)

So I think I have broken the game. I just have one mission left but wanted to get the gold bolt I missed on Quartu, which is the Clank section one. Now I am stuck in this section with no way of getting out. If I quit the game and go back I am right back where I left off, so completely borked.

There should be an open hatch/vent next to the magnet that'll take you back to Ratchet.

I've been playing a little into the Challenge mode to max out some weapons, and man do I love some of the weapon combos you can put into action.

1) Start the party with a Groovitron
2) Get the party pumping with a couple of Proton Drums
3) Invite Mr Zurkon over
4) Kill everything in sight with the Peacemaker

The party analogy kinda broke down on that last one, but you get the idea.

Also, amusing to note that when you use the Goatinator on a tank, the resulting goat sometimes continues to make tank noises.

We're having a blast with this game at home. My son, my girlfriend and i.
It's weird that (basically) a remake is one of the most next gen games.
It's amazing to have these graphics with so many enemies and crazy effects. Really cool.
Thanx Insomniac!

Something awesome and lame just happened to me.
I was trying for my 15th or so time to get sub 1:35 on Rilgar. I had slow mode and invincibility on and on the last lap I fucked up half way through and gave up, I pressed start, hit "quit race" and then the trophy popped for the sub 1:35 challenge. So weird.
Awesome that I got the trophy, but lame that I didn't deserve it.

Yeah, both the races are glitched like that. If you quit right before the required time, the trophy will pop.

I just took a punt on this and bought it after I realised the game was only 30 quid on PSN. A reasonably priced new retail game on UK PSN? See Sony. If you do that I will buy it.

I don't have much experience with the series. The only games I've played are tools of destruction and one of the PSP games. Tools of destruction I only played a little. I liked what I played but I didn't play much. The PSP game I found the controls really awkward. Interested to see what I make of this game.

So it cannot be a truly outstanding R&C game...

The second play-through in Challenge Mode is just as good as the first. Loving every second of it. Will probably be Platting tonight, and it was such a good ride, while not feeling overly 'grindy'. A very good balance.

Can't not wait for the sequel. :D

ItN's Arena was hecka lackluster to me. I'm glad they didn't shoehorn one into this game. It would have either just made the main campaign shorter than it already is, or got rid of the collecting segment on Gaspar which I'd prefer under these circumstances.

Is it not possible to get the bouncer once you start the game (I enter the pre-order code after playing for an hour)?

edit: nevermind, had to restart the ps4

I was absolutely loving this game, until the second mandatory hover race. I honestly am astonished that something so utterly, overwhelmingly *shite* got through development. How on *earth* did anyone think this was a good idea? The rubber banding is ridiculous, to the point where the same racer overtakes at the same spot every single time.

I'm not very good at racers, never have been, and the holoraces being this awful has really ruined the game for me. They weren't this bad in the original game, why the hell have they made them so much worse now?

They're a bit difficult but coming in first isn't too bad if you just chart a path that allows you to boost pretty much constantly.

If you're worried about the timed trophies for each of the races, they're glitched right now where you can basically get them for doing nothing so if your trophy hunting you should probably do that before they patch it.

Just finished challenge mode and only missing the groovitron trophy, Going through challenge mode again with invincibility and infinite ammo and just spamming groovitron just feels heavenly hehe

This is a really good game. Love it so far. Has much changed compared to the original?

There are a few completely new levels, Clank sections were overhauled, 2 of the ship sections are new (and one was cut), about 5 or 6 locations were cut, the plot is the same general premise, but with a lot of differences. New things include the Galactic Rangers in general, Dr. Nefarious being in this game, but also this game has a lot less character development and interaction between R&C when compared to the original. The narrative feels a bit botched in general here.

The weapons are mostly taken from the PS3 games, the original didn't have strafing or weapon upgrading, the jetpack sections are new, and probably a couple other things i'm missing. Oh, all of the bosses are new, pretty much. One was brought back, but it plays completely differently.

Just save you boost for the last 15 seconds and win like nothing. The AI is garbage, but you can exploit it easily that way.

Just lower the difficulty and/or use cheats.

I don't see how races suddenly ruined all the gameplay you enjoyed before it but okay, I guess.

Just spent an hour turning Gaspar inside out and of course I end up one brain short. Thank you for reminding me why I hate collectathons.

After seeing how the system works, I was able to get first place on all the cups on the first try. The thing is the AI slows down for you so it never pays to get ahead of them until the last stretch. Just maximize your boosts and save it for the end.
