This is wonderful news. Hopefully he'll direct his lame duck campaign to be less divisive in these last few weeks.

These are the people being picked

Gotta give it to Sanders. Those are some bold choices.

Touching the Cornell west stove again I see!

He picked West? Get the fuck out of here Bernie

Cornel West? C'mon, Bernie...

Seriously, if it's not too late, I'd change that pick if I was him. West is not a good surrogate if you want to try to say you represent Democrats, a large chunk of which are black.

Maybe he'll drop out of the race now that he'll get some say in the convention.

That's the best thing for him to do at this point, but I don't think he will. He's been saying "We're taking this to the convention" for almost a year, so he wants to save face.

I would hope that after California (when it becomes impossible for him to take the lead), he drops out. That's still letting everyone vote (minus D.C., but he'll get blown out there anyway), and there's no reason to sit the entire month after D.C. until the convention just waiting. All of the headlines will be calling for him to drop since he'll have 100% lost at that point. It actually hurts his message at that point (I think it's hurting the message now, but that's more debatable).

He'll want to maximize delegates to increase his chances of successfully passing a minority report at the convention. That means running the race until it is done. Cheer up, that's really not very long now.

as someone who didn't know who he was until this primary what's wrong with west?

He lost his mind when Obama would not return his phone calls. Calls him everything but a child of god

“I think my dear brother Barack Obama has a certain fear of free black men,” West said. “It’s understandable. As a young brother who grows up in a white context, brilliant African father, he’s always had to fear being a white man with black skin. All he has known culturally is white…When he meets an independent black brother, it is frightening.”

“Obama, coming out of Kansas influence, white, loving grandparents, coming out of Hawaii and Indonesia, when he meets these independent black folk who have a history of slavery, Jim Crow, Jane Crow and so on, he is very apprehensive,” West said. “He has a certain rootlessness, a deracination. It is understandable.”

Spoiler Alert: Democrats, especially black democrats love Obama

I get that the DNC doesn't want a fight but West should have been rejected. I don't want anyone who has questioned the president's race and called him an n-word involved in this process. Very disappointing.

Read up on some of his rather choice cuts on President Obama... That is a good starting point.

If they really wanted Sanders to stop picking at their heels Clinton and the DNC would have to have a lot clearer stance against money in politics. Not just vague concessions regarding citizen's united.

Of course that won't ever happen.

Oh people are taking the Cornel West thing as an ignorant racist attack? How about when Noam Chomsky calls Obama and Hillary on their bullshit? I bet it's because he's senile..

Bernie picking Cornell West should highlight the level of importance people place on these picks, i.e., not that high.

This is a political victory for Bernie Sanders. Politicians love political victories. They're what they get when they lose.

The most interesting thing about this article is the suggestion that the concession Bernie wants is a move on Israel. This would be one of the few things Bernie could get that I really want as well. If his legacy is getting the Dems to officially start distancing themselves from Netanyahu I will consider him a success.

Hillary is against Citizens United.

Bernie learned the hard why going fully grassroots isn't a sustainable way to fund a campaign.

The ideal for him wold be for Hillary to drop out so the true god king can take her place. But that isn't happening, and this is the best they could(will) do to placate the man.

But Bernie wants public financing of elections. Not grassroots elections for everyone. It would help cut down on the circus that are american elections as well

They want to placate the man because he still has a considerable base that needs to be integrated on the general elections, especially his sway on independants. Some folks think that if he shuts up or if they shut him up that'll instantly turn his base towards this democratic party, which is beyond silly to me. They should be meeting him halfway on a lot of his positions so it can be a real truthful negotiation and concessions for everyone involved so not only they assuredly take the general election, but end up with the strongest possible political agenda.

You don't have to meet him half way in regards to Health and Education system since Clinton is already meeting him half way there. But in terms of foreign intervention, especially with Israel. Eliminating fracking and having a much stronger focus on environment friendly policies and maybe try to work some of the infraestructure plan into action. Clinton already had to move towards $12 at the start of the process when she had been just flirting with 9 or 10 before Bernie started to get momentum. The longer he's in the race, it's for the better for everybody.

Not sure why we're giving him anything. What is he giving in return? Is he dropping out; or going to shut up for the next month? Anything?

What is he giving in return? Perhaps remain a Democrat instead of running 3rd party and handing the election to Trump. Last I heard, Trump's numbers are going up, and Hilary's are going down. It's not going to be the blowout people expect.

Yeah. I really don't understand this idea that Bernie staying in the race is somehow causing this magical rift in the DNC and if he goes away everyone will just fall in line. It's just not that simple.

just looked up some the results of past democratic primaries and i don't see how this statement is true at all.
Except for the Clinton vs. Obama none or barely any other primary looked close at all. There are quite a few blowouts even. 60% vs. 40% is quite an accomplishment when you consider where Bernie came from and who he's running against.

More people voted in 08 primaries then this primary

Honestly their plan of 1st gets 6 picks, 2nd gets 5 picks sounds totally fair to me.
However, the extreme Bernie people will not be happy with it.

That is a nice spread of influence he got himself there. It was probably his idea from the very start. That he managed to win the votes and attention of so many people along the way is just an extraordinary bonus.

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
If I was him, I would hold out for so, sooooooo much more. He could so easily tank the entire election for Hillary/Dems if he wanted to, use that.

The Sanders movement is a paper tiger. It has far less leverage than the internet would lead you to believe.

While his tone needs to shift, Bernie has every right to stay in the primary to the end. It's not right so many states are seen as worthless as in the eyes of the primary.

No idea where Sanders gets off thinking he ought to have any sway on anything. Never should have given this fool an inch.

The thing is, he has so much bargaining power because with the polls the way they are, Hillary and the Democrats seriously needs every Sanders supporter they can get. It's his way of giving his massive collective of supporters a bit of power and true representation. I say push harder, Bernie! VP or bust!

He has been sniffing his farts for so long that oxygen must not be going to his brain.

Imagine if fucking Hillary demanded that she had a say in Obama's or Bernie's cabinet.

I think that's a good outcome, as a Bernie supporter. Anyone who wants to say that his campaign was inconsequential can take a step back, healing from the primary rift can begin, a pull from the left will be felt.

And it's about time. Center-left vs. The Tea Party has gone on long enough. It's time to stop being afraid of big leftist ideas like UHC, student loan reform, banking reform, and basic income. Ronald Reagan is dead. His legacy of the "perceived center" of the country being pro-corporate proles who have to be dragged into accepting minorities and women kicking and screaming can die with him.

Clinton has always been for UHC just not necessarily single payer.

Huge lie to act like she's afraid of it.
