Wonder Woman only has a budget of $100M?

There's no way that's true... and if it is, bravo WB, bravo... reign in those bloated budgets.

Melissa Silverstein director of the Athena Film Festival said, "“It’s the first movie that a woman has directed — a live-action movie — with a $100 million budget,”

I think more broadly meant 100 million and up, not 100 on the nose.

I'm new here and I couldn't think of a better place for my first post than this community. Big DC fan and looking forward to every single film coming out. I remember hearing back in March about a Suicide Squad game that supposedly ties into the movie but nothing else was mentioned. Has anyone heard anything else about it?

Welcome friend!

Honestly, until you mentioned it I never heard about a SS game being in development. This article was the closet thing I found and all we know is that it was in development... in 2012. For all we know it could still be in development hell but seeing how the new movie is coming out I highly doubt it'll see the light of day. I had no idea I wanted a SS game until I read that... That sucks but if it makes you feel any better I'm currently working on a Suicide Squad level on Mario Maker. I''ll let you know when I'm done with that if you like. :D

Welcome to the secret best thread on GAF, dierce.

About the game, I'd say wait for E3, it's probably coming this winter, or next.

Thanks! I found the site where I first read of it: http://collider.com/suicide-squad-vr-deborah-snyder/ Although it most likely isn't a game at all. I must have gotten it mixed up with another article I read stating that Geoff Johns announced the game being in development back in 2010. Also the new DC game probably in development at WB Games Montreal.

WB Montreal working on a Suicide Squad game has been rumored since Arkham Origins came out. I'd have to imagine that if there's no announcement at E3 or SDCC that it's not happening.

Error

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
Sounds to me like the opposite. Johns is there to be the story guy. To make sure all the movies respect the canon (which seems be a sticking point for some not me) and they all weave in together. Who better to shepard that connective tissue than Geoff Johns?

Dude is now a Producer and Co-Chief Officer of DC Films, not just Executive Producer like before. I doubt he is the just the 'comic book canon guy' now.

No I meant he'd be there for the canon but also to weave the overlooking narrative. Making movies is not his strength, but telling stories and knowing these characters is. That's where Berg comes in and helps hopefully.

Want to say Batman AK was associated with PS4 and that there's a slim chance we'll get an announcement at that press conference. But it's short notice if they want it to coincide with the film. If it aims for the blu-ray date, December is okay.

Quickly checking wiki, WB Montreal worked on Arkham Knight DLC and were hiring for a new open-world action IP. Don't know how they divide properties across media but technically Suicide Squad is a new one in the gaming space.

Being realistic, NetherRealm announcing Injustice 2 for 2017 is probably more likely.

Welcome!

And sadly, nothing. Not even sure that it's real.
Nirolak still believes it's real and there is that tease at the end of Arkham Origins that confirms it was a thing in WB Montreal's mind. Who knows if anything ever materialized but an SS game was in the plans. We're pretty sure about that.

I like to think the game got reworked so it can resemble the movie and not Rocksteady's Arkhamverse. Hopefully we get surprised at E3 or something.

Was at a test screening of #SuicideSquad earlier and needed a few mins to process. Awesome movie! Very immersive and I want more!

I've been hearing about a Suicide Squad game since 2013 so it just seems insane it wouldn't be ready yet.

Love what WB/DC is doing here. Its sad that this stat is true, but things are changing!

Yep. It was fine to be cautious at first but the impressions have hit a fever pitch now. Its safe to say the movie is fucking great. Smoke and fire and all that.

It's not safe to say the movie is fucking great until it's got an unimpeachably good RT rating. Until then, the discussion will always revolve around how garbage it's going to be, or was, after it released.

"Singer should be jailed for what he did to Oscar Isaac in X-Men: Apocalypse."

lol. So professional.
I just quit reading his site or Twitter, gives him less hits and thus less $. I don't want to read about him trying to spoil movies years in advance (whether they turn out true or not) or his "articles" which read like blog posts.

The general buzz for Suicide Squad seems mostly positive though, no?

I think a lot of the trepidation is more in the wake of BvS than anything else but people are still excited.

Yeah, I think so too, besides some backlash against how Joker looks it was mostly positive. People seem to have accepted the looks of the cast.

Edit: I am not giving any weight to first impressions on Twitter.

the big issue though is that there was a ton of positive feedback from screenings a couple of weeks before BvS dropped. most of that was from fans who genuinely liked it, but also an extremely disproportionate minority of press that really liked it (e.g. variety). so people are right to be cautiously optimistic about early SS feedback

Nah, after BvS I'm going to treat all DCEU threads as shitfests until proven otherwise, until SS hits. Then we'll see.

I'm still tempering my expectations and if it gets north of 70% on RT I'll consider it a win.

Yeah, north of 70 and it's a win. They need to start turning the tide and building momentum with a positive buzz. There's a lot of toxicity surrounding the DCEU, but you know what they say? Winning solves everything.

You'll still get shit posting like "WELL THEY SHOULD GET AYER TO DO JL, SNYDER IS A HACK"

Some idiot on twitter. A nobody.

Devin is blasting xmen on twitter this morning. Amusing stuff.

For a guy who "writes" for a living, he's incapable of describing his opinion without resorting to this is the worst thing ever in the world or this is this movie is going to change cinema, Alfred Hitchcock who? You would think a guy who writes would be able to come with better ways to express his thoughts, but it's him so makes sense that he's incapable...

POODLE!!

So what all is available for Rebirth right now? A quick non-committed look just gives me Rebirth #1.

Edit: Looks like everything. I can maybe grab 5 of these. I bought DC Universe, what are 4 other recs?

He's not the only one. Status updates and tweets are slowly stripping away the ability to express opinion. As you said, it's either the greatest/worst thing ever, there is no room (literally) to say anything else.

Wait, there's more than one? I saw only DC Universe Rebirth 1 when I went into my local shop last night.

Heh.

Well, let's see, off the top of my head, the strongest 4 series are probably going to be...

-Wonder Woman
-Superman
-Batman
-All-Star Batman

But there's so many good creative teams, it's tough to say.

An update on the BvS extended cut - the Aussies have rated it and added "coarse language" to the explainer, with strong language having a higher impact than in the theatrical version.

Let the "who drops the f bombs" speculation begin.....

Rebirth was interesting, the themes in a way it ran direct counter to Snyder's interest in comic books, almost directly so. Johns might bring this take with him to the movies.

Rebirth Spoilers:
Essentially the Watchmen have a hand in the way of how the New 52 universe was formed, and the theme is fighting Pessimism, Despair and Apathy. Snyder is obviously a huge fan of Watchmen and it's theme of deconstructing super heroes.

I dunno if a new reader could find a whole lot in rebirth. It's more of a setup book, and it reverts a lot of changes that happened with new 52. Still it most likely setup the core storyline for the next year or so.

Jon Peters always wanted the "I'm Batman, motherfucker!" line to happen.
