Xbox One Summer Update Preview (Cortana, new Game Library, Win10 app, more)

This is interesting: https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/4n0ol0/uwp_app_installed_on_pc_appeared_on_my_xbox_one/

IF your Xbox is on and signed in while you are downloading a Windows 10 app on your PC, the Win 10 PC app will also be installed to the Xbox.

Out of all the things in this update the one thing that intrigues me the most is the unification of the stores. The possibilities could be megatonic. This is further proof that many dreams might become a reality. Keeping my expectations in check though. ;-)

Why would I want to clutter my precious console space with that? I hope this is optional, I don't like it. I don't have the same apps installed on my three Windows 10 PCs either.

I think we can assume that this will be optional and configurable.

Kodi would have to be ported to UWP first but there's little chance of that happening.

Hmmm if I were MS I'd be pushing for it. Kodi on Xbox One could actually sway some people to buy the console. Plus, with software like Plex already available, is Kodi really that much different?

There are probably more factors than preview points only. Area, language, daily use of voice commands, amount and quality of feedback given, number of games/apps... they know everything about us and can decide which profiles are more useful,to begin with.

Yeah - depending on how "curated" the xbox-visible content is, there could be a lot of "Holy shit... NOW I get it" moments. Or it could flop completely, of course ;-)

Good idea, but I don't think they care. I'm located in germany, have my console set to US, I use voice commands pretty often, amount of feedback is more than enough, number of games/app is too much. Nah, they don't care.

I got in last night. Cortana is terrible at the minute and if you can find a known issues log you'll see they're a couple of pages long. Opt out while you can.

I don't know if this is really true. Could this be faked on a Windows 10?
You can do it yourself with the steps he posted. You have to be on the latest Windows 10 insider build though, the redstone build which is the same build as the preview Xbox build.

Dunno. But I tried and didn't work for me. They might have updated the store thought, it's snappier and some navigation bugs I had are gone.

Preview programs have never been this ropey though. And I was in the first version of the new Xbox dash
Were you in the previous insider for the nxe? It was even rougher. I guess that's why they make this a insider program within the insider program.

What are the chances of being able to get Kodi running on this thing with UWP?

If there is talk of pc games working on it then anything else I would say is fair game. Anyhow isnt that part of the point with uwp.

I'm not a huge fan of the phrase "Hey cortana, xbox on" but it sure works a ton better than the old "xbox on" command. It has worked for me every time I've used it and I was lucky to get it to work every third try with the old command.

So for example in the Dutch locale (or any other country without native Cortana support) you still cannot choose English voice commands? Does Microsoft think we cannot pronounce "xbox on" or something. Unless I'm wrong this sounds like a load of ass.

Then again, I don't have Kinect and never tried voice commands before, I just heard people complaining about not being able to set voice and even text language to English when your country has been set to the Netherlands, or some other non-English country.

Just wondering now that they have the chance to fix this mishap.

Totally agree, it's super annoying that they still, this far in, haven't fixed this.

Microsoft services are shit in tier 2. Bing is just a cheap Google copy.

Meanwhile, on PS4..

....already has game library, Cortana? funny i don't use it on my PC so, nothing important for most people, and Windows 10 apps..hmm let's wait and see if Windows Mobile can hold up for 1 more year, but at the moment it's dying.

Wait Xbox doesn't have a game library?

The best thing about my employer's mobile phone contract is that it moved from Blackberry to Windows last year. Don't make me obsolete so soon!

I know the business arm of Windows Mobile is meant to continue but still

Lol, you opt in to improve. What the hell kind of post is this. Do you know what these preview periods are for ?

And you can play games on PS4. Don't forget that.

Loving the update, the store looks strange to me. It feels more like a web page other than that Cortana is working perfectly & am using it tons.
