NPD Sales Results for May 2016

Dunno. I guess no one expected PS4 to beat XB1 so much this month.

People thought Doom would do better on XB1. Gap is not so big...yet.

I think the friend effect is taking place at this point, getting the game on the console where most of your friends are.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Hopefully these pathetic Wii U numbers each month are continually lighting a fire under Nintendo's ass to truly deliver the goods with NX.

It's going to be an insanely long year for them. Profits are going to plummet.

Battleborn higher than expected although numbers may tell a different story. Could be a large gap between that and Overwatch. Shame Ratchet couldn't make it another month but it's a single player remaster that seemed to punch above its weight so it's done well regardless. I'm sure it's not far from the top 10 anyways.

No surprise to see the disappearance of QB. Would be interested to see how far off the cliff it fell.

Great for U4. Brill to see it the best selling Uncharted. Deserved. Though shame it missed 1 million standalone.

Hardware was always going to be predicable but potentially the PS4 could be outselling the XBone by nearly 2:1. That price increase killed sales dead just about for it. MS will need some good hw announcements at E3 to try and turn the tide somewhat. Though personally it's a little too late now to make a difference.

So has the crazy amount of bundling that has gone on since Fall 2014 reduced the impact that "price drops" have on hardware sales? Software sales are up even with digital getting a bigger and bigger slice of the pie, but hardware is down. I got Xbox One with a bunch of stuff for around $330 a year and a half ago. so I wonder if this sort of thing impacts how much the "new" $299 price accomplishes.

so xbox 102k?
god lord

We know that PS4 is >200K, but under 213K.

And we know Wii U is under 28K.

That said, the best scenario for XBO:

PS4: 200K
Wii U: 0K

XBO maximum: 130K

But that's of course impossible... So yeah, we have XBO confirmed between 100K and 130K. (Can't be less than 100k btw)

Been hearing a lot of people saying that Overwatch was going to run over everyone. Well, not only did UC4 prove that wrong (on a single platform), but man, Doom did it too. Impressive.

It was announced that Overwatch had 7 million unique players a couple days ago. Obviously, unique players aren't equivalent to sales total, but I think it's pretty likely that it sold more than Uncharted 4.

looks like ps4 has cemented it self as a real contender against xbox in the states. As long as they don't mess up their pricing a repeat of the 360 era will not be likely.

I would hope so, being on 3 platforms and attractuve impulse pricing on the PC where the majority of their fanbase is.

"Overwatch was #3 for May. When comparing Overwatch sales for days in the market, this title doubled the sales of Doom."

Most significant things I noticed aside from UC4.

GTA V still a monster.

Dark Souls III hung on in the top 10.

Did many people here expect Overwatch and especially Doom to sell most on PS4 when it had Uncharted 4 launching?

PS4 is the market leader, I think that's pretty safe to say almost 3 years into the cycle. Neo, Scorpio, Aladdin etc ain't going to change that, that OP list is fucking insane. PS4 has the majority of software sales for most games and for Black Ops, that bundle is doing really well.

When you look at the first party output coming from Sony and MS in the near future as well, can't see things getting any prettier for MS even in NA. MS shit the bed so badly, I'm quite sure they could recoup Xbox costs just by writing a book about how to not fuck up a product launch. As in write a list of everything XB1 but at the start MS just need to write 'DO NOT......'

Overwatch is gonna be in the top 10 for a while. I'm not sure if Uncharted will have the same kind of legs.

Also the wording of Sony's PR statement is ambiguous. It looks like it's saying it's second to Uncharted 3 in terms of sales; but then, why would that be remarkable when Uncharted 3 launched in a season that was better suited for sales.

Wow, PS4 completely dominating again... hardware sales must be marginal if the companies really don't want to bother with them anymore. Bring on the new boxes!

If Xbox One is at 110k in the states that's a bad month. No two ways about it. E3 will be interesting to see what they reveal. How long is this new price drop in effect for? Either way they'll get a boost when Gears releases but other than that Sony right now is coasting without even doing much work.

I think Scorpio will be a big focus at E3.
