Until Dawn |OT| I know what you'll play this summer

I have got to chapter 9 just after
Mike threatens to shoot Emily, I chose not to kill her
. I really love this game, but I am ready to be finished, not because I am bored, or because it is dragging on, but because it really stresses me out. I am not a massive horror fan and I am constantly tensed up, waiting for the next jump scare. However I am now feeling a bit more relieved that
it has turned into a monster movie. I am not really creeped out by this kind of horror, whereas the whole psycho killer and then small section of psychological horror meant I could only play for an hour or so at a time
.

its just matt and emma going back down to look for her luggage right after everyone makes it to the cabin. its not really important to the game.

i didn't have any trouble holding the ds4 still. bychance was this during the
end sequence in the cabin with the wendigo and it comes right up to your face? if so that actually just means you made the wrong choice. there's no way to survive as sam even if you stay still.

Not sure about that. From what I read in guides,
the only way for Sam to die in the game is to fail one of those 'don't move' motion gimmick moments in the Final Chapter. I think the choice you're referring to is actually for whether Mike lives or blows himself up based on whether you choose to save him as Sam.

In my playthrough I wound up saving everyone except
Jess and Josh. Reading up on what happens to Josh if he lives, it sounds like him dying was probably the better outcome. I felt bad losing Jess, but it also seems fair in retrospect. I was worried the game would punish me somehow choosing the risky path for Mike when he's chasing her (either with some obstacles showing up to make it the slower path or whether it would actually lead to Mike dying) and I wound up playing it too safe
. I did find it a bit funny I didn't get a trophy for finishing the game. I was curious if that glitched out somehow, but reading the trophy list online, it seems unless you save everyone, girls only, or no one, you don't get a trophy for finishing the game with any other combination of survivors. I'm not mad about that, just found it amusing.

Anyways, really neat game and I can see why doing multiple playthroughs would appeal to others. As much as I'd love to do a perfect playthrough, the horror genre is a bit too tense for me, and I don't think I can stomach replaying the game again even if I know what jump scares are coming; and it looks like I'd have to go all the way to Chapter 4 to save everyone based on my existing choices.

I finished my playthrough last night. Everyone was alive until the very last chapter.
Jess died, because I tried to run rather than hiding with Matt, I wasn't overly annoyed with this, as I assumed she was dead anyway
. The part where I was pretty gutted though, was right at the end.
I ran for the switch with Sam, rather than hiding behind the post, after I had already got the wendigo's attention previously to save Mike. I assumed Ashley had already made it out and Mike would follow me, but no
. When it ended I was pretty annoyed with myself, but on reflection it does seem like the perfect ending for a horror story like this.
You always think it is over and everyone is safe and right at the end there is always one more person that dies
.

Like you, I also thought the game had glitched
when I didn't get a trophy at the end
. I think I am going to replay the last chapter and see if I can get everyone out.

Great game and I think I only appreciated how good it was, when the credits started to roll. It would definitely make my top 5 games of 2015.

I started at 5pm yesterday and finished at 1am this morning. Great game, had a bit less replayability/branching than I would have liked and the $20 I paid for it seemed about perfect to me but I really enjoyed the game and easily recommend it.

I finished this yesterday and enjoyed the hell out of it. The best interactive movie I've played since Heavy Rain for sure. I managed to save seven of the characters, but poor Matt got killed off really quickly. I think he died at the first opportunity actually, but at least he seemed fairly inconsequential to the overarching plot, so that's something at least. Was pretty bummed out about it though. I don't like it when people die in these perma-death games.

One peeve I do have is
the treatment of the flamethrower guy. Here's a dude who presumably was surviving against these Wendigo beasts for years, had become a veteran at it, and five minutes after meeting the teens, he gets killed off! In the most unspectacular fashion imaginable!! And he seemed like such an awesome character too.
I was pissed off about that.

Emily is such a bitch but damn is she the hottest or what?

Mah man! And hey, she may be a bitch, but she's a gloriously entertaining one.

I'd rank 'em like this...

Chris
Mike
Emily
Ash (her romance with Chris was cute)
Sam
Matt
Josh
Jessica (where the hell did this broad go? She felt like a complete afterthought.)

I have held out for this to be released to the public for quite some time. With the success of Until Dawn, I consider a pseudo GOTY Edition a possibility, which would include this section. But I also figure that the longer I wait for this code, the less likely I am to find an unused one, and I really want this content.

I know exactly what it is. I don't need to be told "it's not that important" or that I "can just watch it online." I know all of this, and I still really, really want it. And I will pay a lot for it. This is very important to me. Until Dawn has become one of my favorite games I've ever had the pleasure to play (and replay) and I really can't stand the obvious omission of Matt and Emily's character development.

So, this post has two purposes:
1. Have we heard anything about an ultimate or collector's edition that will include the missing content in NA?
2. Do you, or does someone you know, have an unused Road Not Taken DLC code that they would part with for a lot of money? This code must be for the US PSN.

haven't played for over 2 months. Wow, that was a mistake. I just got to Chapter 9 and I'm like WTF

Character(s) spoilers
Josh, you motherfucker. Now I really do wish I killed him. And it looks like I shouldn't have pulled the trigger on Ashley >_>. And I didn't pull the trigger on Emily. So at least one person I know is dead

I'm gonna finish my playthrough tomorrow night

1st playthrough complete. Ended up having three people killed

Character(s) spoilers
Chris and Ashley can finally be together...in the afterlife >_>. Mike ;_;7. Fucking Josh survived and now he's turning into a goddamn Wendigo. Lucky punk. Dammit Wendigo Hannah, you should have fucking ripped his head off!

Don't know when I'll get the chance to replay the episodes to try out other scenarios or to get all the collectibles/totems, but I will say I had a hell of a time playing this. Definitely shot up into my Top 3 for 2015

Pardon my ignorance but what is the road not taken thing you speak of?

After seeing so many playthroughs lose several people at the very last decision, I question whether the devs communicated the choice well enough.

Either the very last qte is glitched for many people, or they suddenly changed the rules. Up until that moment keeping your controller steady was all that it took (and is exactly as commanded: 'keep still'). Then in the very last encounter it starts moving out of its own (in my case lurched more than drifted). Either way it was bullshit design. A last minute blemish on a very good game.

I never had problem with the "Don't Move" situations. I think it makes sense that the character shakes a bit due to the situation. All you have to do is to sit cross-legged and placed both of your arms on your legs and stay still. It works for me multiple times that I thought the whole thing was too easy.

It's an extra section at the end of Chapter 1 where Matt and Emily go looking for her missing bag. It's pretty obvious that it's missing once you know about it. As a result, Matt and Emily miss out on the first-act characterization that every other character (and, importantly, couple) gets.

Replayed the game for the third time this past weekend with some girl friends...while at a cabin in the mountains. In the dark. Not creepy at all...lol

So, a few questions:

1.
What was the deal with the herd? Were they supposed to be possessed by some sort of evil spirit? I thought that might be the case because of the reddish glow in their eyes. And why were there only bucks in the herd??

2. I didn't really understand
the deal with releasing the wendigo spirits. The flamethrower guy's journal suggests you shouldn't kill a wendigo or the spirit would be released...but then what? He says a person has to resort to cannibalism to become a wendigo, so what does it matter if the spirit gets released?

3. When the credits role,
did I misunderstand Sam, or does she say that someone needs to go to the mine...then almost immediately contradicts herself and suggests no one should go back down there?

Anyone else have major issues with the sound mix in this game? Dialog keeps changing volume it feels like.

Edit: Furthermore, I'm 34 years old and I'm probably going to have nightmares tonight. Fucking jumpscares and spiders and shit. I don't know why I bought this game really, I don't even like horror movies damn it...

Fantastic game loved every second of it.

But what was with the constant tremors half way through? I assume this is why the Asylum is so damaged when you return as Mike, but what the hell was causing them?
it can not be the fall of the watch tower as that only causes two "bangs" but the amount of tremors later on had me confused, like the house shaking when Chris and Ashley are in the basement with the doll house.

Anyone have problems with the disc?

I bought this in November, and finally getting around to play it. It crashed in the first few minutes into the game, so I rebooted. Tried to play again, and I got a little further, but then I got a sudden dirty disc error.

Brand new game, just opened the case today. I deleted the game, powered off the PS4, and now I am reinstalling it.

Played it with the disc just recently, no crashes or disc errors.

This game has a 8.9GB patch. Yeesh.

Well, after the long wait due to patching, I finally started the game last night. I am getting worried about my choices.

I got Jess and Mike together and they were traveling to the extra cabin. The extremely remote extra cabin. On the way there, I got a "Texas Chainsaw" or "Saw" vibe from two totems. Also, they were being followed and they found a shrine. Jess apparently got abducted too.

Before that, I told the psychiatrist that I was disgusted by gore three times. This may become graphic.

Of course they got a creepy actor the play the psychiatrist.

Just bought it today in the sale.

Question for those that have it...

Can you select a subtitle language different from the vocal language?

Quick question is this game really bloody? Or gory?

You can spoiler tag answers for people that don't want to know this stuff.

My wife likes to play games like this with me but if it's too morbid she won't be down.

My life likes to play games like this with me but if it's too morbid she won't be down.

Not that I can remember. It has some creepy stuff but not outright gore.

What's the preferred control method to play the game, traditional or motion?

Traditional for me. It's more precise. The game is quite challenging in some spots so I wouldn't fuck around with motion controller.

Yeah I stuck with traditionnal. QTE were pretty easy in the beginning but they're getting a bit harder. I'm really enjoying the game!

Just played through it and I loved it. I thought every character except for Sam was unlikable, but in a good way. They really portrayed the characters in a cartoonish way and still reminded us why teenagers are just the worst. Sam is kind of a blank slate but that makes sense I guess.

I thought some of the QTE's felt cheap though and therefore some of the deaths felt "unsatisfying" if that makes any sense.

Did anybody else think the story loses a lot of steam when the Josh-reveal happened? I think a crazy killer would be far more interesting than some zombie like monsters

Yes I just got to that point of the story and I totally feel the same. I was hoping for a grounded teen/slasher story with a serial killer(s). Even though the
wendigo
reveal was setup from the start, I'm really disappointed that they went that route.

Finally started this earlier after picking it up this past black friday lol. Damn backlog... But anyways, i'm highly enjoying it so far! Jump scares got me a few times. Only on the 3rd chapter, but expecting way more. I think the collectibles are very well done so far because they are incorporated well with a backstory element. Hate when games just put collectibles there just to be there with no real added benefit other than a trophy. Probably dive in a little deeper later this evening!

I finished the game with Sam, Emily, Chris, and Josh surviving.

On the last part, you have to be careful and make sure everyone gets out of the house.

I will probably watch the totem movie online. I feel like it is a waste of time to collect them.

Bumping this because I loved this game so much. Just got its Platinum trophy, about 2 full playthroughs.

My favorite character was Mike. He's a nice guy.

Also, not sure why this game got hate for its framerate. Seriously, people overreact too much just so their opinion is heard. This game's atmosphere is so good that the least thing I would pay attention to is if it was running at 30 fps or whatever. It looked like a fucking movie and I had an incredible time with it.

How does the story get affected? And does it change the story much? Like what do I actually have to do to change the story. I'm only on chapter 3 but I'm already thinking of another play through.

Sonic handles my blue balls
I rented this last night, just beat it and loved it. That was a delightful surprise, didn't know "The cheerleader", Ward, Mr. Robot and the pregnant girl from Superstore were in this. I appreciate the campy dialogue - felt like I was watching a show on MTV which is absolutely perfect for the horror genre.

Is this game scary? I'm not the biggest horror guru (unless splatterpunk counts), and this game has been sitting on my PS4 library unplayed for over a month. Picked it up on sale. I like good stories and I like these post-modern adventure games.

It had its moments for me. But since I watch a lot of horror films, I'm not easily startled. I've seen it work more effectively on others and a few people on this thread have said so.

Has quite a lot of jumpscares, but other than that - no it's not really scary.
