Statement from the Yorkshire Police starting now.

MP Jo Cox has died.

Okay.. seems like the perpetrator, Tommy Mair, 52, is a right-wing nut apparently using a 'homemade' gun, he also injured another man whilst attacking Mrs. Cox.

Read her bio here.

She was one of the good ones. :(

Edit: Thanks mysterious mod.

Hopefully she will be ok but god forbid if it was an immigrant. We may as well wrap up the out vote now

Edit eye witnesses are saying it was an old guy 65-70

Yeah.

I always said there'd be an attack before the referendum... Not saying this is it, because I expected something a tad more drastic, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was an attack by a far-right leave voter with the intention to kick up a fuss before the vote.

Why would it be an immigrant? Seems to me much more likely that it was the other way around. There was a similar case in Germany where a candidate for mayor in Cologne was stabbed by a rightwing extremist for her refugee-friendly stance:

Right wing extremist seems more likely imo but her stance on Syra could have ruffled some feathers in the IS/Jihad crowd. But that was some time ago and frankly it didn't seem like she and the co-author got anywhere with their ideas so...

The level of misinformation and exaggeration in this campaign has been truly shameful, from both sides. If this is related to the referendum then there is blood on the hands of the politicians and journalists involved IMO.

EDIT: "According to the BBC, a man aged 52 has been arrested in connection with the incident."

Guardian has this from PA

Eyewitness Hithem Ben Abdallah, 56, was in the cafe next door to the library shortly after 1pm when he heard screaming and went outside.

He told the Press Association: “There was a guy who was being very brave and another guy with a white baseball cap who he was trying to control and the man in the baseball cap suddenly pulled a gun from his bag.”

After a brief scuffle, he said the man stepped back and the MP became involved.

He added: “He was fighting with her and wrestling with her and then the gun went off twice and then she fell between two cars and I came and saw her bleeding on the floor.”

After around 15 minutes, the shop owner said emergency services arrived and tended to her with a drip.

It wasn't a slight towards immigrants, just a (personal) fear that we'd have some sort of "attack" pre Brexit vote that would sway the masses towards an out

Anyway it looks like it could be over Syria and abstaining over the air strikes vote

There was speculation among some fellow MPs that Ms Cox may have been targeted over her failure to vote against air strikes in Syria.
