PC Shoot'em Ups / Shmups / STGs Release Archive

Just noticed that Ke-Tsu-No-Ana is releasing on STEAM May 25th.

Silly name and concept, but damn it looks good.

I was about to post this. That Steam Page is a good example of why a lot of Japanese STG's are brought over to the west by Degica or Nyu Media. Then again, I don't think I can resist playing as HANK.

For serious tho, that dos look hella fun. I might pick it up later.

I picked up Ke-Tsu-No-Ana and it runs in slow motion. like 7 frames a second slow. Anyone else experiencing this? I'll give it a few days before returning it.

I'd open the task manger and have it run in the background to check if the game runs at 100% on a single thread. You could use something like Nvidia Inspector to monitor the GPU load while at it.

This is hardly a new game, and I think it was in a humble bundle a bit ago, but Twinkle Star Sprites is on Steam, apparently with online multiplayer.

GPU load is a 1%. I just don't know what's up with this game. I'd hate to get a refund on it cause it looks really fun. Just weird that my 980m can't run it.

It looks like a sprite-based shmup, have you tried running the game on your Intel GPU?
That isometric perspective looks pretty trippy.

Every 2d or 3d shmup I tried on my Intel HD4400 runs really good. I can only suggest to run the games on your integrated gpu, guys

I've tried EVERYTHING. I'm about to try it on my wife's laptop. It has a 960m, but it also had NVIDIA OPTIMUS just like mine. So I'm afraid that it will have the same issue.

It's discouraging, because I really wanted to play this game because of how cool it looks.

Update: Well... this is crazy. It works on the 960m. It works perfectly fine. The creator told me the the issue could be from a driver for a controller. I'll look into that.

On another note, I think I forgot to put Tailwind under new releases.

Huh.
Yeah I've heard of similar performance issues in other games, something about how the game spends so much time trying to read the controller inputs that it has no time to run the rest of the game.

Zenodyne R released today.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/466820/

The game has TATE, configurations are great. To get the controller to work just required a restart.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Prism - It's a shmup with an interesting mechanic. It's not omni-directional really. If anyone has any suggestions let me know

Store page.

AWA and Outskirts are the only new ones so far. The SNK games are already listed as released since they were available in a bundle a while back.

Yeah, it looks like Degica is going to publish all of the games from the Shooting Love 200x compilation, starting from those two.

Bought RefRain at release but didn't get to it until now and wow....really awesome game

Great style and soundtrack (even the menus are cool!)

Gotta love the sensory overload in early stage 3 (I'm sure there's more later but that section stood out). Only got to 4's boss in my brief time with it but will definitely be going back

Skill test is out on STEAM. I'm on my cell and haven't had an internet connection since my move last week. Should have it by Monday.

Got Steredenn from the Humble Monthly and decided to try it out.
I've heard of the roguelike/shmup genre combo before but haven't played many games of that genre. For Steredenn, it works really well. Music is great, stages are random yet well designed, and the powerups and weapons are varied and fun. I've only gotten to Stage 4 so far, and I can tell that getting to the end let alone finishing a loop is gonna take a nice long time.

I feel like it's still pretty rough and needs a lot of balancing. A lot of the weapons are underpowered or deliberately hard to use, to the point that the default peashooter is still the best choice 90% of the time.

It is mind-boggling that "switching weapons doesn't stop your autofire" is a powerup that you have to collect.

Also, have you seen the version of stage 3 where lasers are constantly being fired at you from offscreen? It feels cheap.

Yeah some of the weapons suck, but the Bots are all awesome and tons of fun. Switching weapons is fine for me as well. Also I haven't noticed any constant offscreen lasers yet.
It definitely inherits the luck factor from roguelikes but the luck hasn't been terrible for me yet.

Stage 4 boss is as far as I have gotten on Steredenn. That game is tough. But I still enjoy it and feel like it's pretty decent aside from some of it's cheapness and underpowered weapons. The bots are where it's at 90% of the time.

It seems most shmups are doujin/indie work, which is fine. I would like some Treasure level/Gradius V/ games. Is this on steam ?

I already own Ikaruga of course.

Check out DARIUSBURST Chronicle Saviours, brilliant in every respect.

Check out Strania. It might have some Ikaruga and Gradius V staff on it since G.rev helped out on those games.

Either way, it's an awesome game.

Seconding ChryZ and sixteen-bit here.

I'd say the top Steam games in the genre are Mushihimesama, Deathsmiles, Ikaruga, DARIUSBURST, Strania, and probably Raiden IV. Crimzon Clover, too, though it's got doujin roots and is aesthetically rougher than these others as a result.

I honestly haven't had much luck with bots - they keep getting one-shot killed by stray bullets. I guess Stasisbots are actually much more useful than the actual Stasis weapon, though.

I'm starting to understand the balance of weapons now. My ratings:

Bullet: Mostly average effectiveness unless you get one of the blatantly overpowered spread shots, or the Autocannon. A lot of redundancy among guns. You will be keeping the default Blaster for a while in 75% of runs - few guns are a good replacement for it.
Heavy: Wildly uneven. Only Rockets and Homing Missiles are really usable normally. Flamethrower is incredibly useful if and only if you get the radius increase.
Energy: The most consistently good category just because the percentage of good weapons is not less than 50%, and because the importance of fast firing can't be overstated. Get Laser, Plasma Gun, and a bonus and you're set for a long time. Ultralaser is absolutely amazing. Boomerang and Shockwave are hilariously useless. Do not be tempted by the Death Ray under any circumstances. The bonus to vaporize rocks is more useful than it sounds.
Bots: I don't know. Amazing when they work, but most of the time they just die immediately.
Contact: If it's not the Sword, don't bother.

Another point: If you don't get a good weapon in level 1, just restart. You will never make up for the slow start.

Eschatos, Darius Burst Chronicle (play CS mode), and Strania are what you are looking for. Ginga Force as well if that ever hits.

More people need to play Eschatos in general.

I will get DariusBurst for sure. I already own most of the games here, was hoping for more.

There's a bunch coming. Trizeal, Exzeal, Caladrius, Dodonpachi, etc. Then you have Indie stars like Danmaku Unlimited III. A lot of premium titles are on the list. There will definitely be more before the end of the year.

I've got everything up to date. There were a couple of games released we missed. The most notable being 1917 The Alien Invasion.

I also held off on Trizeal and Exzeal until we got some offical pics of the PC verison. Once those two are released it should complete the Shooting Love 20XX compilation I think.

Thanks for your updates.
Yes, luckily the entire ShootingLove collection will be released, it's only matter of time.

Valkyrius is close to release.

From developer

All right, all of the core improvements have been implemented. These include professional character artwork, completely reworked story & writing, gameplay improvements, graphic improvements, a redesigned final boss, new music, more sound effects, and significant optimizations, among others. I just need to handle the work "outside" of the game (cover art, new website, setting up store page, etc.) and we should be good to go.

The game was already excellent on Desura. I can't wait to play the revamped version.
