Ooh,just saw this. Does this mean I can actually hope for some good Spider-man games? I mean I know I should never get my hopes up but the OP on Marvel's comments together with Insomniac makes this sound good.

A bummer about the exclusive thing though. Feel for you peeps without a PS4.

Exclusives like this do nothing but drive people away.
We'll come back to that when this game has been out for three months, we'll see how many people are pushed away from it in comparison to the last Spider-Man game and we'll see how the two games compare in quality.

All sounds very common sense, but money talks and companies were willing to pay big to attach good licenses to trash games. Props to Marvel for finally realizing that quality games tend to yield better long term dividends.

Kamala Khan would make a great game protagonist. I'm just sad that they can't have her interact with Wolverine (though maybe Winter Soldier could fill the void).

Kamala's character would be very well suited for a character action game, similar to the treatment Spiderman is getting

I really don't like this. Spider-Man is too big to be platform exclusive, feels like a disservice to the fan base and wrong in general considering the character assassination that was ASM 1 and 2.

Spiderman being a console-platform exclusive for the future is the biggest gaming megaton this year.
Gamers might love Nathan Drake, Link/Zelda and Master Chief but they have *nothing* on Spider-man. He is by significant margin the biggest comic-book icon.

What does the movies have to do with the game beeing a exclusive?

I never thought about it that way, but you're dead right. This makes me really happy because I love both Spider-Man and PlayStation so much. At the same time, however, I also feel bad for the fans who either won't be able to play the game or will have to buy a console they didn't want to buy just to play the game.

I'd be crushed if one day, Batman became an Xbox exclusive. Although, looking at the Arkham games' track record, that's highly unlikely, of course.

Im so glad Insomniac is doing this franchise, its a great partnership. Only developing for 1 platform will only make it better, lets hope they develope it for the Neo as their primary.

All of this sounds like Marvel taking the film strategy that has brought them so much success, and finding a way to apply it to the gaming space. It makes a lot of sense. As far as I know, too, the gaming division doesn't have to deal with the rights fuckery that the movie guys have to.

That must be a breadth of fresh air for all involved.

Sadly, they're also affected by it. They still won't be able to use the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters, hence their absence in recent games, such as Marvel Future Fight and LEGO Avengers.

A Wolverine Musou game would be awesome.

People asking for a new Marvel Ultimate Alliance game, I think they're aiming a bit higher than that. Those games were average at best.

im gonna need a Black Panther game asap, splinter cell:blacklist ghost/panther playstyle stealth mixed with some open combat and superheroic setpieces

if by megaton you mean anti consumer sure

i dont have any interest in spider man but this is a giant franchise thats been around forever. chaning it to a console is just wrong

This really could lead to so many awesome things! Spider-Man is a fantastic place to start, one I would have chosen myself I think, but the possibilities for games starring other Marvel heroes seem truly endless.

I can't even decide what I'd like to see the most honestly, apart from MvC4 and a character action / new God of War style game starring Wolverine. Games featuring Moon Knight, Iron Fist or Black Panther maybe? Or perhaps a game starring the Guardians of the Galaxy?

I can't imagine a circumstance that would give the consumer a better Spider-Man game so, "anti consmer" is questionable in this context.

Marvel approach Sony for this (and I assume a bunch other publishers), Sony win. what are Sony supposed to do? passed on the offer? the fact they got the gig mean that Marvel feel this will get the best results for Spiderman game.

Games given proper budget and time?
We all know what platinumgames can do with good budget and time so the obvious answer is a Platinum Games developed Iron Fist or Nova (richard) title; shit would be immaculate

I haven't read too much of her own series, but the new Ms. Marvel is a pretty awesome character in her own right. Aside from dealing with the usual super heroics (and all the baggage that comes with it), Kamala is in an endless struggle to please her Muslum parents, while also wishing to fit in and experience life as a teenager with her friends. Everything about her feels like something out of an old Spider-Man comic, where Kamala must learn how to control her powers while she decides what to do with them.

Her polymorph abilities can really offer a lot of traversal & combat options. Flattening her feet to walk on water, altering the size of her limbs (expanding, deforming, or even compress her entire body) to punch and stomp on foes, shrinking down to the size of an action figure for espionage, growing to the size of a skyscraper to tackle bigger threats. All of which sounds like a great foundation for a Marvel Comics video game, but I wonder which studio would take up the task?

Err, well Batman is #1 but yeah I agree.

What does everyone want to see next? You think Sony has made any other deals with them? Personally Thor can take the L at the back of the bus for me. With Kratos going into Norse Mythology, I don't see any studio doing a better job than SMS. :\ Black Panther and Blade would be cool but are too low key to be made. I hope Captain America is being made next, with the right feel from Winter Soldier.

Came here only for spidey, don't really care much about other Marvel franchises. That said, I'm interested in how much insomniac will borrow from rocksteady, though previous Spider-Man games also had Rocksteady-ish elements.

Kratos is an unlikeable fuck and giving him a brat doesn't change that for me. Thor could totally have a game exploring the nine realms. I'd probably make it a party-based action RPG based off Jason Aaron's Accursed storyline, which was kind of reminiscent of the Fellowship of the Ring minus the Hobbit-y bits.

Nope, it's Spider-man. Batman has a handful of higher grossing movies but Spider-man is RIDICULOUS in terms of popularity.

I think Spiderman basically beats all other Marvel/DC characters combined

Didnt you read the quote with no xmen etc? I doubt we'll get a MvC game without the classics.
I mean, Capcom could go for it. But, as stated numerous times in the Marvel threads, the uneducated masses may blame Capcom for the loss of Wolverine, Deadpool, Doctor Doom, & the other Fox characters. And after the rocky launch of Street Fighter V, Capcom may end up being an easy scapegoat for Marvel's shady business practices.

Making it exclusive is the wrong move, almost certain they'll do away with that in their future games. It's quite simply leaving money of the table (given the popularity of their IP's a lot of it). As much as I like the idea of a Spiderman game, it doesn't make me want to run out and get a PS4 for it.

If MvC4 ends up happening, it may very well be a PS4/PC exclusive since that's where most of the FGC is.

Since this was most likely a trade off for Spider-Man getting in the MCU I very doubt that Marvel gives a shit about a couple millions from video games when they get the billion dollar Avengers paychecks

I'm not sure if that's the case. The deal that transpired for the MCU was between Sony Pictures & Marvel Studios (the latter now being a separate entity from Marvel Entertainment, who oversees everything else, including the games).

Marvel and Sony making the deals. If SFV was a good experience for them, maybe they're looking at doing the same in locking down MvC4.
