Read my friend's new ASM. I see Slott still writes Peter like a Man-Child.

Speaking of which, he's still ignoring that Betty and Flash!Venom were a thing just because it wasn't his shipping.

It doesn't even take two whole pages before Civil War II runs into continuity issues. This thing is a tire fire.

At least it's a pretty looking tire fire, I guess.
Continuity was thrown out the window with All New, All Different.
Stuff like Amazing Spider-Man contradicts Invincible Iron-Man, and these are 2 of the leading books.

Why does he wear the mask!?

I hate ASM atm, really dislike Tony Stark 2.0 Peter

Moon Knight # 3: Smallwood's art continues to impress but the story fumbles halfway through by covering the "Moon Knight is insane, m'kay?" road once more after Warren Ellis retconned that so that it wasn't making a mockery of DID (he just suffered from brain damage while Khonshu occupied his fragile consciousness through four aspects). It's a shame because the last issue was great in continuing the "is this real or is Marc really insane" question that's been lingering over this entire time i.e. you don't need to be convinced, you just need to believe as opposed to this issue which at one point tells Marc to embrace his madness as it's his best quality. It's not bad by any means, but I get the feeling that this arc might not be for me. I'll keep reading it to see where it goes since I do want to see what this is leading up to, but i'm really hoping they don't go down the insanity route when the ongoing series starts after this five-issue arc.

Ms. Marvel #7: A highly enjoyable commentary on the "heroes fighting heroes instead of, y'know, the baddies" event Marvel is set to tackle again with Civil War II. Not much to say beyond it being a great done-in-one that criticizes the event it's meant to tie into. Kudos, Ms. Wilson!

Just here for the monthly "Vision is so damn good" update.

I actually missed last month's due to an issue at my local shop, but managed to get both today and... god, that Scarlet Witch issue was brutal. Like, really, it's sort of a microcosm of the whole Vision storyline - you KNOW it's all going to end up in the shitter, and that casts this awful shadow over even the happy moments. The final page with Vision and Virginia in bed was chilling.

As was the panel at the art museum with Victor in Issue 8 - one where Vision is just... looking at him. He's so impossibly hard to read. It's like something out of a horror movie.

Uncanny Inhumans was great as always

Ant-Man went full Superior foes.

Nova seems like he's a step away from breaking down in tears in every page of his book.

Rider is extremely overrated IMO. People basically just like him because he was cool during one event and then act like the character was he that way in every appearance.

Essentially. He had two good years out of thirty. Nobody's actually a Richard Rider fan. They're Annihilation fans.

Abnett and Lanning rebooted the character and made him great. Nobody claims otherwise.

Sam Alexander is absolute trash. They don't want to use Rider? Fine, but please stop with this awful ass character.

This is absolutely not true even if it may not be the case for you.

Also, I can understand not liking Sam, but he's not trash.

Rider was good to great in New Warriors.

Speaking of 90s heroes that haven't been seen in a while....

Marvel appears to be digging Ravage 2099 back up from the grave. But can't be bothered to spell his name right?

There aren't enough LOLs in the world

What's the reading order for Ms Marvel / ANAD Avengers?

I want to read Ms Marvel primarily, but definitely want to see how Waid writes the character.

Ms. Marvel starts her newest run as a member of the Avengers, so ANAD Avengers 1-3 comes before any of that, since it's the origin story of the new team. Probably Avengers 4-6 as well, as it's also kind of "origin-y." Otherwise they run independently, without any real crossover content-wise, and it doesn't seem likely that they will.

So I'd probably alternate Avengers -> Ms. Marvel -> Avengers, volume by volume (or in single issue chunks of six if that's your plan).

Thor was great as usual. That book had just been amazing since Marvel Now. I never want Jane Thor to leave!

Also this was the first issue of Uncanny Avemgers that really clicked with me since the new team. Great issue and I'm dying to see how it all pays out.

so what's the word on the best ANAD runs?

Ms Marvel & The Vision are the 2 i keep hearing about.

Aside that, I am enjoying Abnett's Hercules, Dr. Strange and Invencible Iron-man. But consider that I am on Unlimited, so 6 months behind.

I found the new Hulk fun, and enjoying a little bit the Inhumans titles. But those are not the best of ANAD.

Vision, Ultimates, Silver Surfer, and Spider-Man are the four books I'd call consistently great and fully recommend. Always excited to read them.

Captain America: Sam Wilson, Ms. Marvel, and ANAD Avengers are the three closest behind, but aren't QUITE as consistent.

I've been enjoying Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Patsy Walker, and Squirrel Girl. But these aren't your typical super-hero comic book, so ymmv.

Squirrel Girl, Vision, and Mockingbird are the ones I'm most excited to read when they drop. They're great.

Black Widow and Power Man and Iron Fist are also very good

I dropped everything else from Marvel but these

I enjoy Scarlet Witch, the greece comic is one of the most beautiful comics I've ever seen, but the overall quality of the story is sadly lackluster.

Yea Scarlet Witch is interesting. It seems to change artists every issue, but that greece issue was gorgeous. But yea the writing is pretty middling.

I also like Scarlet Witch, but it's super spotty. The recent France issue was gorgeous, but man, that story was some real cliché crap. But Greece and the Witches' Road were both great.

The covers alone are worth price of entry though.

You know, I was sort of suspending my disbelief with Squirrel Girl. I mean, she's cool, but her squirrel army felt a bit overpowered. Sure, they're numerous, but they're also small and don't look like a great threat.

But then I saw this video. Damn these rodents are fast! These two are just playing, but I can see how an army of them determined to put you down can be super effective.

hes getting shat on pretty hard. hes a death away to be a forced competitor in the suffering olympics

Yeah they don't cut Sam any breaks. Tony Stark should pay to relocate his family from New Mexico to New Jersey at least-cut down on Sam's commute!

I've grown to like Sam. He's been disparaged enough for being "Kid Nova" and not "Richard Ryder" - but he's a capable hero and they definitely portray him as a real person with his faults. Becoming an Avenger with Miles and Kamala has opened him up a bit and made him more likable because he can bounce off those two.

wow, nice to see this thread! I just decided to start reading some comics, what do you suggest? I already picked some Ultimates, All New Avengers and Doc Strange. Anything else I should try? Thanks!!

It's a bit sad looking at the list of cancelled or ending books now when Marvel Now! 2.0 is on the way and this thread will die and be reborn(or "rebirthed" if you go by what Bendis says).
  • Black Knight
  • Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • Angela: Queen of Hel
  • Illuminati
  • Red Wolf
  • Weirdworld
  • Hercules
  • Starbrand & Nightmask
  • All-New Hawkeye
  • All-New Inhumans
  • Howard The Duck
  • Web Warriors
  • Contest Of Champions
  • Hyperion
  • Guardians Of Infinity
  • Vision
  • Karnak
Sure, I only read 8 of those and the rest pretty much all sucked but still.

Most of those weren't that great. Vision, Karnak Hawkeye and occasionally Howard were good. Obviously Tom King leaving means his vision series will be over-Hawkeye's latest run(s) were just messy.

Contest of Champions ending is a bit of a shock... great writer, well received, tie-in for a game. We're the sales just not there? Or maybe Ewing is just done with it.

In general I'm more surprised by what survived. Like, I love Patsy Walker, but my local store doesn't even bother putting them on the shelves anymore... they just get a few for subscribers.

So many ended around 5 or 6 issues that I'm wondering why Marvel just didn't make more of them into limited series from the start. Do limited series sell worse or something?

(I read Karnak, Vision, CoC, Howard, GoI, Angela, Weirdworld and Hercules btw)

Angela was extremely good. I don't see why it wasn't very well received...

I'm surprised that Web Warriors is getting the axe though.
