Official NES Classic trailer released

I don't think there will be an SNES version because this seems like something to throw at the fanbase and to build brand awareness back up leading up to the NX.

I doubt they would want to release an SNES version next year when it will be the NX's first Xmas season because it would cannibalize sales.

I think this is just an easy one off that will appease shareholders since this holiday season was going to be extremely bleak.

You mean you have to use your hands? That's like a baby's toy! LOL :)

Looks like will need to get one though. Excited for it. :)

Should play nice with the mayflash CC adapter on PC, right?
I imagine it would.

I'm also thinking about the NES Retro Reciever from 8bitDo. That + Wiimote + NES mini controller and I think you'd have a sweet wireless controller for an OG NES.

Something to do with epilepsy right?
Edit: ^ that guy got it.

What my guess is some of the older games sometimes does quick flashing on the screen, which I know for me can ‘trigger’ a seizure (strobe lighting effect). But when I am in that kind of situation, I just close my eyes (Don't remember having to close my eyes while playing any video games).

So the darker screen will not make the flashing as bright, which can help alleviate any triggers like that. But I still stand by what I said, to change the game for only those who have epilepsy is something I don’t agree with. The whole purpose of the original warning label is to play at your own risk. That should be enough.

Here's what the NES Classic Edition looks like in comparison to the original, this is from SDCC

That controller looks spot-on. I wonder if they're using the original molds. It would be great to have a new resource for replacing parts on old, original NES controllers.

bish gets all the credit :)
Do they realize people have TVs larger than 25" nowadays? Should have made the controllers wireless.

Not a big deal, but I wish they had gone with a modular cable. Always hated wrapping cord around the controller.

It would have been cool if the slot loading mechanism still worked! I wonder what sort of electronics this has on the inside? Is it a real NES or some sort of ARM-based system running the games through emulation?

Are there extension cords? Controller cable looks way to short.

Read this comment many times about the cable is too short. But it's explained in another topic:

Before you go changing your plans, do be aware that it's entirely common for cords to be shorter than production lengths on pre-release display samples and prototypes of CE products. I wouldn't make any assumptions based on this presentation.

I'll buy it if the price is right in Brazil, but honestly just to display it. My emulation setup is so much better and more convenient.

Shut up. I agree with you (I think SNES games would be too valuable to sell this way, anyway) but I still want it... ^_^

Possibly a stripped down Wii.
I doubt it, that would be a lot of complexity for such a gadget.

Possibly a stripped down Wii.

No way.

-Too outdated. The powerpc cpu is a very old design and is power hungry and hot.
- This runs on USB power and this would require massive amounts of R/D to create a die shrinkage and to fabricate low power versions of this ancient powerpc design.
- The GPU is also completely overkill. A 3d accelerator doing nothing but outputting a software rendered image to a TV screen. Not to mention that the GPU is stuck at SD resolution and would require some sort of conversion to HDMI standards.

Now let's compare this to modern Arm based mobile hardware:

- Low powered and sufficiently powerful CPUs.
- low powered GPUs capable of high definition HDMI output. 3d accelorated hardware is not needed.
- cheap and widely available. Practically very little R/D.

Basically, using a Wii is the illogical choice for a cheap emulation box. It's definitely Arm based. The Raspberry Pi would be sufficient and that costs 5$. Not saying they'd use a Pi but they'll use something similar.

I wonder how long the controller cords will be? Much longer than normal VC controller lengths, I hope!

Looks like its already answered and might not be an issue.

Onto next worry, will the UK version be NTSC games?!

First time commenting on this fantastic looking device for old school fans. Here's some random thoughts:

- Nice commercial - really hits that nostalgia spot.

- Overall I'd call the games on offer a good selection of iconic games. The collector/OCD in me is a bit miffed though that we won't be getting Castlevania 3, Contra 1, Mega Man 1 and 3, Double Dragon 1 and 3, Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3 and Star Tropics 2. Would have been great to see all of those instead of just a selection.

- A few more licensed/third party games like Tetris, TMNT 1-3, The Goonies 2, Bionic Commando, Mighty Final Fight, Batman, Crystalis, Battle of Olympus, Ducktales 1 and 2, Chip 'n Dale 1 and 2, Shadow of the Ninja, Kunio games like RCR, etc. would also have been greatly appreciated. Faxanadu and Dragon Warrior also seem like unfortunate omissions.

- That said, it is fantastic to see that Double Dragon 2 is on there, as this might be my favorite NES game out of all of them and I praise them for finally not focusing on the first game again as nearly always happens.

- Very unfortunate that there won't be a way to get more games on the system, not via wifi, USB transfer or even a SD card. Imagine how cool it would have been if the machine would be able to read SD cards with let's say 10 new games that came in themed packs based on genre, year of release or publisher.

- Imagine how it would have been even cooler if they had gone through the trouble of making small NES cartridges as well that actually could be inserted and purchased separately? Man, that would have been nice!

- Will Japan get a classic mini Famicom by any chance? And if so, are there different games on that one? If there are, it would make a nice import someday. Oh and if they won't get one, why would that be?

I have pre-ordered two at a big Dutch online store (Bol.com) yesterday, one for myself and one for my mom who always loved playing the system, but I honestly have no clue if I'll actually get them as most other Dutch and European stores seem to have sold out already. Fingers crossed in other words, but I fear the worst as with all Nintendo products nowaydays.

Fingers crossed as well for getting a mini SNES next (and a mini Mega Drive - get on it Sega and do it properly, i.e. yourself, and not through shitty third parties!).

You know what is best about this system for us Europeans? The fact that it provides us with the first ever legal and hassle free way to play 30 NES games in 60hz and in full screen. Not even the Wii/Wii U VC manages to always do this (or it has that often mentioned dark filter). Took them bloody 30+ years but here we are! (This is another big reason I want a mini SNES and Mega Drive by the way!)

That's two Wii Classic controller ports on the front of it right.

Do we know yet if the Wii Classic controllers compatible?

Cause I have a few of those around.
