First time commenting on this fantastic looking device for old school fans. Here's some random thoughts:
- Nice commercial - really hits that nostalgia spot.
- Overall I'd call the games on offer a good selection of iconic games. The collector/OCD in me is a bit miffed though that we won't be getting Castlevania 3, Contra 1, Mega Man 1 and 3, Double Dragon 1 and 3, Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3 and Star Tropics 2. Would have been great to see all of those instead of just a selection.
- A few more licensed/third party games like Tetris, TMNT 1-3, The Goonies 2, Bionic Commando, Mighty Final Fight, Batman, Crystalis, Battle of Olympus, Ducktales 1 and 2, Chip 'n Dale 1 and 2, Shadow of the Ninja, Kunio games like RCR, etc. would also have been greatly appreciated. Faxanadu and Dragon Warrior also seem like unfortunate omissions.
- That said, it is fantastic to see that Double Dragon 2 is on there, as this might be my favorite NES game out of all of them and I praise them for finally not focusing on the first game again as nearly always happens.
- Very unfortunate that there won't be a way to get more games on the system, not via wifi, USB transfer or even a SD card. Imagine how cool it would have been if the machine would be able to read SD cards with let's say 10 new games that came in themed packs based on genre, year of release or publisher.
- Imagine how it would have been even cooler if they had gone through the trouble of making small NES cartridges as well that actually could be inserted and purchased separately? Man, that would have been nice!
- Will Japan get a classic mini Famicom by any chance? And if so, are there different games on that one? If there are, it would make a nice import someday. Oh and if they won't get one, why would that be?
I have pre-ordered two at a big Dutch online store (Bol.com) yesterday, one for myself and one for my mom who always loved playing the system, but I honestly have no clue if I'll actually get them as most other Dutch and European stores seem to have sold out already. Fingers crossed in other words, but I fear the worst as with all Nintendo products nowaydays.
Fingers crossed as well for getting a mini SNES next (and a mini Mega Drive - get on it Sega and do it properly, i.e. yourself, and not through shitty third parties!).
You know what is best about this system for us Europeans? The fact that it provides us with the first ever legal and hassle free way to play 30 NES games in 60hz and in full screen. Not even the Wii/Wii U VC manages to always do this (or it has that often mentioned dark filter). Took them bloody 30+ years but here we are! (This is another big reason I want a mini SNES and Mega Drive by the way!)
