No Dragon Warrior games either, but I'll live.

That's two Wii Classic controller ports on the front of it right.

Do we know yet if the Wii Classic controllers compatible?

Cause I have a few of those around.

Pretty sure they already said that yes, Classic Controllers will work. I recall hearing that you may need to use at least one of the included controllers though (so, for example, Player 2 could use a CC).

No way.

-Too outdated. The powerpc cpu is a very old design and is power hungry and hot.
- This runs on USB power and this would require massive amounts of R/D to create a die shrinkage and to fabricate low power versions of this ancient powerpc design.
- The GPU is also completely overkill. A 3d accelerator doing nothing but outputting a software rendered image to a TV screen. Not to mention that the GPU is stuck at SD resolution and would require some sort of conversion to HDMI standards.

Now let's compare this to modern Arm based mobile hardware:

- Low powered and sufficiently powerful CPUs.
- low powered GPUs capable of high definition HDMI output. 3d accelorated hardware is not needed.
- cheap and widely available. Practically very little R/D.

Basically, using a Wii is the illogical choice for a cheap emulation box. It's definitely Arm based. The Raspberry Pi would be sufficient and that costs 5$. Not saying they'd use a Pi but they'll use something similar.

I want them to use hardware components that only costs 1 or 2 dollars at most. Otherwise, its a complete failure of design IMO. Your not going to waste money on something necessary to run NES roms. Any computer circa 1995 could run NES roms with zero issue regardless of the power or price

Exactly, which is why I flnd the idea of them using Wii hardware very hard to believe. Using a cheap outsourced ARM based soc with a Mali gpu would be a hell of a lot easier to manufacture, cheaper and less power hungry than getting IBM to create a whole new chipset from an outdated design for a 60$ box.

The hacking community is going this thing inside out and allow us to play whatever NES game we want on it, isn't it?

Apparently Nintendo has put in the darkened filter for those who have epilepsy.

But that’s the whole reason of the warning that is put into the manual. No reason to change from how the game is supposed to look.

And this comes from someone who has epilepsy. I play at my own risk. (Have never had a problem playing video games).

Then why is the filter gone on the NES Classic?

Even if that's the reason, put a toggle on it.

It's bad enough they sell shitty 50Hz PAL versions on the EU eShop, never mind the fact they fuck up the visuals too

I wonder if the version of this they release in the UK will feature shit PAL versions

Considering these games are on the VC (on the WiiU and 3DS) in the 60hz format so I assume this will also.

And I think we can all agree that the filters on the VC games suck and should be entirely optional.

I think you'll find that both the EU eShop and EU PSN sell PAL versions that run at 50Hz on a lot of retro games, even when the American shops have 60Hz versions

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Tyson or Mr. Dream?

30 years later and people still don't understand the dynamics of this business arrangement and fallout?

As much as most of us would love for a contractual renewal to occur to bring Tyson back, it will never happen. It's a waste of resources(and a breach of Nintendo's hard stance of never working with the man again). Besides, Tyson is probably better known for his Hollywood cameos than his career in the ring at this point anyway, especially among younger generations. Older demographics are mature enough to not really give a shit at this point(and will buy this for the 15-minute nostalgia rush regardless)

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
If this machine could produce on a modern TV the CRT look like shown in the opening of the video, I'd buy it in a heartbeart. There's of course no chance for that though. Processing power to do something like that is way beyond this price range. Still, one can dream that some kind of chap CRT post-processing chip could be made for retro consoles like this.

Frankly, it'd be more criminal to remove King Hippo or something. Mike Tyson is someone most players won't ever see and if they really want that there's means, legit or not-so-legit, to see or fight him.

Punch-Out Featuring Mr. Dream is a lame ass title though.

This is so awesome, if you dont already own a Nes, this is going to be the best $60 you spend on gaming ever!

The controllers should be wireless. I know they want to keep the retro feel but it would be so much better not to deal with tangled cords.

The 2DS has an ARM9 and the code for the emulator is basically written though currently only supports one save state. It also has two screens (one touch), WiFi, SD card support, and a whole bunch of other silicon that wouldn't be needed at all. Of course you'd need to add video encoding and scaling and controller handling.

With a bigger selection of games though.
SNES library is far too good for just 30 games.

Eh, I always felt the NES library had more depth to it.

SNES is pretty weak outside of fighters and JRPGs.

I'm in for the NES classic, but would give the SNES classic a pass.

I'm totally in.

People can (and will, and are) nitpick the list of games but it's impressively solid. Sure there are some headscratchers (Super C instead of Contra? etc.) but all in all there aren't any stinkers on there.

Working in a retrostore where parents constantly buy their kids older, cheaper consoles tells me that casual mass market doesn't give that much of a shit in this specific case.

And you call that headscratcher?
Castlevania instead of Castlevania III is the odd one.

I want this thing so bad. I'm totally gonna take a picture of it next to my original NES that I've had since I was 9.

I expect the games will be burned in a surface mounted masked rom, perhaps inside the SoC itself but probably not.

If that's the case, the effort and expense to mod it for general rom use will probably be more than just building a clone of it or equivalent.

Yes!! I need a miniSNES!!

Unless the Nes mini commercially flops, I can't see this not happening. If a forum full of enthuasists that know every conceiveable way to play these games is going gaga, I can only imagine the hoopla over a mini Snes. Nintendo may have something on their hands here. Just this simple commercial is hitting the right notes and a welcome change from Nintendo of the recent past, who have appeared out of touch at times. I'm actually more a snes guy than a nes one, and I'm drooling to own this for reasons I cant even explain. I'll be there day zero for the snes mini.
