Left my hellhole Gravitino ball planet, landed on an icy lifeless rock with pushover sentinels and vortex cubes all over the frozen tundra.
What's even better, almost every other point of interest is a standalone trading terminal.
This is great because I can keep farming the cubes without getting bored. I just keep on advancing through the scenery, loading up on them, shooting an occasional sentinel, then redeeming the cubes. I already have enough cash for a 48-piece suit (just need to find the pods).

This will be the planet I spend my time on, 3 Atlas interfaces and 2 missed anomalies behind me. Might as well become fluent in Korvaxian :)

What star system thing?
Researching the different classes and colors of stars.

Quick and dirty so far, any system beginning with the letter O may have one or more super rare resource planets for your usage
From what I've seen after a bit of time space pirates will warp in and try to attack nearby freighters. If you defend them you will get a reputation boost with the faction in that system.
Yeah or you can side with the pirates and get a ton of loot from the freighters without worrying about all their attention focued on you and hightail it to the space station to unload.

As anyone come across a solar system that...was you know...black and dark?

Everything thus far has been like I'm exploring the official Skittles Galaxy of the entire rainbow color spectrum.

How to upgrade your multitool quickly:
-Find Vykeen system, go to a planet there (preferably one with good conditions)
-Find a broken signal scanner, you can find them easily by looking for their red beams
-Craft a bunch of bypass chips, search for Transmissions
-Keep going until you have as many Beacons (the blue icon) as you can get
-Fly to the beacons and activate them, they will show you where an outpost or shelter is with a Vykeen npc. Pay close attention to when it shows you where the marker is because you're going to have a bunch of other red icons from other transmissions.
-There will always (or almost always) be a new multi-tool on the wall. Talk to the Vykeen first though, he might give you a better multi-tool for free, and the tool on the wall is based on what your currently holding. Wala! edit: now that I think about, the weapon they give you for free is probably based on what you're holding as well, so it doesn't really matter which you do first.

Also:
-Never dismantle the upgrades on the tool before trading, or else you'll get multi-tools with less/worse upgrades.
-Your map will be crowded with other icons from looking for Transmissions, if it gets too confusing just fly to another planet in the system or the other side of the current one at least.

Honestly it took me maybe an hour and a half to go from 8-24 slots, and I was doing other stuff as well.

Not only do you need them installed to visit certain systems, all of your warp upgrades (like all upgrades) are cumulatively impacting your hyperdrive power, so you can warp further total distances with all installed.

I have my Hyperdrive, Warp Reactor Sigma, Tau, and Theta all connected together for the linked bonus. I can go a maximum distance of 1600 Light Years in a single jump.

Now if I ever find a Warp Reactor Omega (If it even exists for that matter), you can see exactly where I would place it. I sure hope the Omega linked with the other 3 would at least let me jump 6000 Light Years per jump.

Was there only 1 planet in the first two systems?

Possible that in any given system- in either direction on the scale- you might have outliers. Like, a resource-rich extreme planet in a typical F system, very rarely, or an occasional barren nothing planet in an E class system.

One planet in the first and two in the second. Continuing for science, third (moon) in the O0PF had more stacks of gold than I've ever seen but was decent conditions. Fourth planet devoid and lifeless but stacks of Emeril. One more planet to go.

This system also has an Anamoly that I didn't notice at first since I went straight for the planets.

I'm sure there are always the exceptions, even the possibility that the class just makes it more likely, but not necessarily common, for rare materials and extreme planets to appear.

B and O are the rarest are blue when on the map. You are supposed to need a theta drive to get to them but my chained Sigma and Tau have been working.

Edit: fifth planet was Intense Rainfall which was a red description but doesn't seem to count as extreme. Lots of life, little resources.

The life in these systems have been combinations I've never seen and some different landscapes as well. Seems there is a lot more to discover. But alas I'm done, just wanted to see how the rest of the system played out.

wow that's some specific advice. Makes perfect sense as the one multi-tool upgrade I got for free on ps4 was from a Vy'keen, I happened to know the most words from them as well.

One interaction:
If he points insistently at your multitool, and you get the option to give it to him, just do. He wants to help you out with a better one.

I wonder (roughly) how evenly distributed through space black holes are.

edit: damnit. sorry.

I've been to two planets so far and buildings/stations on both looking identical in architecture. Is that the case for the rest of the game?

I did go to a Vy'keen shelter with a 17 slot multi-tool.

Went to the thing on the wall and got the 21 slot multi-tool.

Then talked to the Vy'keen and he gave me a 24 slot multi-tool free.

Yep, it goes pretty fast, though a couple times there was a lesser tool on the wall.

Finally left my Vortex cube paradise. Landed on the other planet in the system, a barren planet but again full of vortex cubes! And they were easier to see too, scattered around like lanterns.

I now have a maxed out multitool, 43 slot inventory and bought the coolest looking ship in the game with a built in Tau drive. Just need 200 more gold for that Theta drive now, but I can't find gold anywhere. I was tripping over it a couple of systems ago.

Did find a cool monsoon planet though. Constant rain and crazy storms.

AFAIK a system is generally just one race, the race's buildings differ but generally all buildings in a system will be from one race.

This is a good tip 👍🏽

I'll try to remember it in forty hours once I eventually leave this Gek system haha

Yeah that's how got my 24 slotter too.

I have have an somewhat ideal setup planned for the sake of upgrades.

You can see it here - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=213666642&postcount=17589

Seems the most important upgrades for the mining beam are the intensity and cooling ones so you can cut into more rocks and shoot for longer periods without stopping.

The gun, well I have no idea. I originally just used the Laser for combat until I found out the Boltcaster has homing shots which makes combat somewhat more efficient when on foot.

The ship cannon sucks though, so I'd rather stick with the Phase Beam for Space Combat.

I'm having so much fun on my current planet. It's a flora/fauna rich place with really challenging terrain. Lots of steep hills, massive ridges, drops and such. It also has pretty extreme heat storms and very cold nights. The fauna is mostly agressive, sentinels are frenzied and the place has gravitino balls sprinkled all around it. BUT, they are very sparsely sprinkled so they are never really that close to each other. So to pick them up I have to make mad dashes over extreme terrain that kills me if I make a wrong move (like forgetting my jetpack hasn't recharged and going over a mega tall ridge, oops). Yes I had my first death on this planet ;)

Since I have to run far and then battle the weather, the sentinels, the fauna and the terrain itself to make it back in one piece, it doesn't feel cheaty when I get back to a trading post with a suit full of gravitinos.
Oh, and the planet also seems to have an abundance of drop pods. Maxed out inventory here I come!

I finally got to a planet that had Gravitino Balls.

sB61DFpl.png

I was able to get about 5 of them before I had to sell them for some quick cash. There were not as plentiful as I would like but I made some good bank from them.

My current ship is doing good but I'm looking for a good crashed ship to take over.

though to be honest it is like our own planet. Without light pollution you can see a bit of space.

SkyChangessm.jpg

West Texas is absolutely beautiful because of this. Starry night skies are the best. Never realized you could link warp reactors.

About the warp reactors: Now I feel stupid for building one on my 17 slot ship about as far away as my first reactor as you could get lol

So any star system that starts with an O. Okay, any other tips?

Looks like my ship, except mine's red. I love that design. I'll probably stick to it despite its 25 slots. Maybe if I find a similar one with more space and an Omega drive.

Ok so I had an amazing string of luck tonight.

1st Found a 30 slot wreck just looking for resources without a beacon. I was just there, it's one of the big freighter looking ships.

2nd Said ship already had two warp upgrades next to eachother (I was gathering for the 3rd one).

3rd All the while I kept finding slot upgrades for the suit and timely merchants

4th I warped to an E class system and got a low security barren world with FUCKING Vortex cubes lining the caves, Emeril crystals, and gold deposits. As soon as I discover the cubes I find a beacon without any trans tower and get a merchant. Merchant is surrounded by Vortex Cube caves and gold/emeril deposits/crystals. Low sec means the Sentinels really don't give a damn that I am literally stuffing my pockets with cubes and selling for 400k a run. Oh and the merchant buys at +4%.

Sweet, sweet,units

So uh... Yeah. Got the game. Fun for the first two hours, but I'm at about 8 hours in. Don't really feel too excited about continuing. Any advice?

And for the record, earlier in this thread (before any reviews were published) I said that, from GAF impressions, this game was looking like a 6.5-7, and that's pretty much what the Metascore turned out to be. So yeah. I'm rad.

Not really but I do feel good that I could gauge that.

Hello Games should probably patch out animal sounds on planets labeled as barren. No reason I should be hearing dinosaur noises every 15 seconds on a dead, lifeless rock. lol

So if anyone comes across a moon called this place sucks. Don't go there it's full of extreme heat and hostile sentials. I had to dig a tunnel shaft that took me to a giant cave just to survive and gather supplies to fly off that hell hole

I asked the same thing myself and turns out there isn't a place like the one you describe unfortunately.

Turns out NMS is not based on our universe but an "alien" universe, that's why it's not based entirely on our model since it didn't suit the devs vision.

Planet I'm on has Graviton Balls on the fields and Vortex Cubes in the caves. Perfect weather with no storms. Just aggressive sentinels which I can easily deal with. They also don't care if you pick up the cubes. Think I'll stick around for a few days.

Have noticed that the higher lvl (with more slots) fighters seem to have much better maneuverability.

Also, was looking for a larger ship and couldn't find one but found a sexy fighter with one less slot - using a not so sexy scout type at the moment. While comparing it i selected purchase instead of cancel :(

Anyway, i quickly reloaded my old save and... still have my scout and my credits but my ship now looks like the fighter. So if you really like your ship but really like the look of another then you may want to take advantage of this glitch. Looks like a ferrari but flies like a toyota

Well, that's disappointing. I can jump 1500 lightyears without any of them touching. Are you sure it's "only" 1600 lightyears?

I haven't found any gravitinos or vortex cubes on this character yet. I found one with vortex cubes tucked deeply into caves where the sentinels would've even notice you on PS4. That felt more cheaty ;)

The planet I'm on is so interesting to me that I just don't want to leave it, it literally isn't helping me progress at all (it has resources, but I'm still low on slots and units on this save, can't really even afford drop pods) and I still can't imagine not checking it out until I've had my fill. All the life on the fields and hills is crazy, hopping cactuses with bug eyes and aggressive pineapples, but in the water and the caves which are teeming with life it is more earthlike. The caves empty out into the water if you go deep enough. This dolphin/shark thing snuck up on me in the water (the planet has vast, vast oceans) and scared the crap out of me. I hate open water >_< Had to go back for a pic though.

this is also the same with multi tools and how long their beam lasts.

So today, I continue the grind for the mats for Theta Warp Drive and then try to get to the center of galaxy.

Already did Atlas Path, not having to carry those damn Atlas Stones is amazing.

Can someone let me know if it is possible to finish the Atlas story AND reach the center of the galaxy in one go or would I have to start over to see both? No spoilers please.

I asked the same thing myself and turns out there isn't a place like the one you describe unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure I saw a post on reddit yesterday where someone found a dark system.

I had one that was quite dark. It wasn't black, but it was a dark navy. It actually looked really beautiful. It reminded me of our solar system, so it felt kinda homey.
