Rocket League |OT2| I'd Rather Watch The EUROS Than Play

Anyone wanna play ranked 2v2s or 3v3s?

Got tired of my matchmaking teammates and now I am trying to find people to play in the only place I trust: GAF

And I have a mic if it matters to you

PSN: DToneli
Been playing No Man's Sky more than RL, but if I'm on I'll party up with you.

I played on and off all day today trying to get back up to Chalenger I in doubles. Soooooopo much Elite Prospect division 4 to 5 to 4 to 5 to 4 to 5 to 4 to 5. I swear I just get shitter teammates in div 5.
Finally got up to Challenger (again) tho. Yaaaay.
I'm looking for a legit dubs partner on steam btw

Edit: oh and one of my teammates just told me my car sucks. I don't think I've changed it since I started playing.... And I don't know if I want to. :( But apparently there are better ones? I thought it was alll cosmetic

Edit2: fuck I can't believe how much faster and lighter and quicker to turn Octane is than Backfire. It's not just my mind is it?

Edit4: I just played RL on a ps4 for the first timr (got my roommate into it)... I don't remember, is the initial FOV and button mapping really that shitty? Can't see your teammates on the break, L1 is thr stat menu? WTF is that [hes elite Prospect 5 on dubs. Still won w the confusion ;)]

I seriously am in the same boat, this is exactly what happened last time, my teammates are unbelievably bad at this game it's absolutely infuriating.

why is doubles so much easier? i decided to play ranked for fun and and i shot up to Challenger Elite in what felt like a handful of games.

If you watch johnnyboi's videos featuring scrubkilla he describes at great length every time how he does his kickoffs and how it can be countered. the tl;dr is make sure you place your car directly between your goal and the ball, not off to one side.

Late reply, but I just saw this. Somehow missed it since it was near the end of the page (but I could have sworn I read all of the past few)!

Thanks, I'll look him up. Haven't ran into any multi-kick-off-goal-scorers again, but that doesn't mean I don't need the knowledge for the next time. :x

You can only get 1 idiot teammate vs being straddled with 2 =D. With 2 less overall players you get more touches, so you have more of an impact on the game. Rotations are clearer -- if a teammate is up it (should) be obvious you are the only one back and vice-versa. 2's and 1's have always been faster / easier to rank up on due to less players being on the field. It's just easier to carry / deal with 1 bad teammate vs 2 and with 1's obviously everything comes down to you.

There isn't any one set of recommended settings, but here's a few tips:

Camera shake: Off.
FOV: At least 100. As close to 110 as you're comfortable with.
Stiffness: Most leave it at 0. Some increase it. I have mine around .2, I think. When it's full at 1, the camera doesn't move as you accelerate and boost--except when you hit supersonic. I like having that elasticity so I can better tell visually how fast I'm going (below supersonic).
Distance: Some keep it at default (e.g., Kronovi). Some make it way further out like 330 (e.g., Gibbs). Again, depends on what you're comfortable with. I increased mine a little. There are even some pros who decreased the distance a touch but maxed their FOV (e.g., Lachinio, Doomsee).

Here's some more pro player camera settings from early this year:

so I've plummeted to challenger 2 from challenger elite and it's basically a free fal. I win a few here and there purely carrying the team. Did they change the matchmaking back? The rankgs have been completely broken the past few games, I'm playing higher ranks or teamed with much lower ranks... wtf gives? This game really isn't fun anymore :(, I probably should just uninstall it, I just wish they could get the matchmaking right.

I like the new anti-smurfing changes to ranked, but I must say it's making it difficult for me. I just started playing 3v3 standard with my buddy who was already at Challenger Elite.

We won 8 or 9 of my 10 qualifying matches and it only started me in Prospect 2. We have won the vast majority of all of our matches ever since and now I'm playing against all Rising/Shooting Stars. So now it's like this slow grind through silver ranks at the blue star difficulty.

If I understand the system correctly if you are playing against people much higher rank than yourself then the game is very unlikely to drop you a division for a loss and very likely to move you up a division for a win even though the games are tougher.

If you have won the vast majority of your matches against rising/shooting star as a prospect 2 you should be ranking up very fast.

This isn't happening for me at all. In fact, the division ups and downs were happening at the exact same time for me and my friend (who is now Rising Star). It was taking the same number of wins and the same number of losses for each of us.

We've played about 35-40 matches in 3v3 together now and neither of us have ever changed divisions at different times.

Man that sucks... I don't think I have a clue then on how the ranking system works :S

Your rank is being artificially boosted to the level of your buddy for the purpose of matchmaking. The game considers you a rising star as long as you queue with him and you will get demotion/promotion points based off that.

Believe so.

Regardless of who you're playing with, the game treats your entire team as if they were the rank of your highest ranked teammate.

Okay, I took a look at their post about this and you're right and I have to say that this is stupid.

...

I wrote so much to express why I don't like this and I scrapped it all.

If a Rising Star and a Challenger 2 win against two Rising Stars the Challenger 2 guy gets screwed over. That's all I want to say.

that definitely sounds dumb.

but it doesn't explain this bullshit here.

I played this game during the first season the most, and I was ranked silver in the solo q mode. after season 2 starts I end up being around challenger II-III, which makes sense since it's basically the old ranking system's silver. anyhow, not long after season 2 starts I stop playing the game.

now I just started playing it again, I do my 10 placement matches with a friend who is challenger III, I was a bit rusty but my performance was ok, sometimes I had the best score, sometimes I had the worst and so on. we played vs people around the same rank as his, and we win half of the 10 placement games, or maybe it was 4 wins and 6 losses, I didn't really count the exact number of wins, and the game doesn't tell you shit.

now, why in the fuck did I get placed at the lowest possible rank, prospect I? Makes no sense to me. was it because I started playing the game after a very long pause? That would be moronic to say the least.

Yeah this is what I meant when I said I was grinding the silver ranks at the blue star difficulty. And honestly, I'm not really even complaining. They had to do something about the smurfing. It was too unfair for higher ranked players to get thrown in with the lower ranked player pool. I think this was the right choice.

I was just observing how hard it was going to be if I actually wanted to grind my way through the lower ranks while playing with my friend. The real problem here, IMO, was me playing my qualifying matches against Challenger Elites and Rising Stars, winning almost all of them, and being put in Prospect 2. That part makes no sense. If an unranked player is hanging in with, and sometimes getting MVP, in games with people of much higher ranks, they should probably get ranked up there, no?

ok, I've seen that season 3 had a reset of everyone's MMR, the thing is that those first 10 ranked games aren't really placement matches, more like start grinding your MMR from the bottom, and you if you get 10 wins, you end up prospect III or challenger I at best, no matter how good you are or who you're playing. if I lost 6 and won 4, makes sense that I'm still at lowest rank in the game, I guess.

no clue at what the smurf issue was but the way this seems to work is kind of awful.

Yeah, the MMR reset does explain some things, but I wonder if each game mode should take a "peek" at the MMR for the other game modes.

If Kronovi never played 3v3 solo before, and he won 10 matches in a row, putting him in Prospect 3 and subjecting the playerbase to him while he grinds his way out of it would be insanely unfair and insanely fun to watch lol

You'll get placed that low regardless. It was a rank reset. I won like all 10 of my placement matches and the highest I've been placed was like prospect 3. It's going to be a grind.

My advice would be to solo queue. You'll rank up quickly beating prospects.Win streaks will rank you up even faster.

It's really really really really boring. Worst week of rocket league ever for me. When you're up by 10 goals with like 3 minutes left every game, you tend to zone out.

Yeah, I haven't been able to will myself to play alone in matchmaking for this very reason. I should just give up on caring about my 3v3 rank.

My buddy has gone from a low division Challenger Elite to a low division Shooting Star in the time we've played 3v3 together in the last few days. In that time, I've gone up to Prospect 3 lol.

I guess it's a fun challenge in some weird way. I just don't feel like grinding for hours with really bad teammates when I could have fun playing against better players with my actual real life friend.

Nice! That's awesome because I avoid most of the launch trails because of how bad they look. I love the Money trail already, though. I wonder what its upgrade will look like.

Why do I feel that they messed up with the "certified items" and tying them to trophies; not only is the drop rate abysmal, but I've been running into people in competitive that just stay back all match waiting for a long distance goal or saves to level up their item....
terrible

I have like ten of them and I'm pretty sure people do that regardless because some like to play goalie. I don't think they have made much of an impact to be honest.

lol so I jumped into some matches on my own with my low 3v3 rank. The silver rankings were kinda fun to play. I was constantly the only one of the field who could fly, so it was like a shooting gallery haha. Every time the ball popped up, I knew it was safe for me to do some crazy flight at it and score from across the map.

I can't play against anyone who flies because I never run into anyone else who does it. Sure I'm not a pro at flight, but it's at least a tool at my disposal, I can hit things with enough prediction (like a slow roll up the corner). Problem is, having it at my disposal doesn't teach how to play against it.

It's honestly a huge pain. Why do you all think you're penguins?!

On another note, this "throw you into a 0-4 game with one minute left" business is getting old. Where's my "don't join existing games" option?

Edit: Also this game has a ridiculous ragequitter epidemic, and I'm sure that has a large part in those games.

Now I see why everyone complained about the gold rankings. I keep getting put up against 3-person teams who know how to play while my 2 random teammates don't even understand the kickoffs.

These games are harder than when I play with my friend against blue ranks. Oh, and side note: Neo Tokyo is still the best map in the game. I never get tired of it.

It's crazy to me how little ranks actually mean in this. I ranked all the way down to challenger 2 and played ranks around that, and then back up to challenger elite and played ranks around there. The difference is Almost non existent in terms of my teammates. You can really tell when somebody was either carried to their rank, smudged, or lucked into it. Hopefully with a fresh start the new season will help differentiate better.

PS. There is nothing more infuriating than calling "I got it!" To have your teammate boost out regardless.

Finally back up to Challenger Elite in 2v2 (solo) I've been trying to get to Rising Star for the past 2 months and I just can't do it.

I'll plateau around Division 2-3, and then hit a massive losing streak and drop back down to Challenger III. Then it's a grind to get back to Elite. Rinse and repeat.

I'm so close to the blue star. I want it so bad.

Only way to avoid them is to re-up after each game. Even if everybody else leaves, check off, so you can get a fresh game vs being put into guaranteed losses.

Yup. Competent teammates have bigger impact on winning vs level of competition. Obviously a really good team is hard to beat (as it should be) but much rather have that vs trying to carry / fight with useless teammates.

Yeah I would say Prospect Elite all the way to Rising Star has very little difference. You will run into good players who are clearly better as you climb but there are so many players that are clearly worse. Even at higher levels I've seen a huge skill difference in same rank. But this is the downside of a system that only counts wins & losses. In almost every game someone is going to be carried higher and someone else is going to unfairly drop.

just played a guy who started going "Okay" and "Wow" since starting the game on every shot I made that apparently wasnt an insta-goal

wrote "dude can you please not be this guy, it's a minute into the game, give me a chance before just assuming idk what im doing since second 1"

dude started laughing at me yadda yadda, and here's the kicker: the other team jumped on it when he told through all chat

basically spent the rest of the game with all 3 of them (was 2v2) bullying ass and calling me fag and shit and how I sucked and there's no way I was Alpha (got the hat from playing alpha) and I was a bitch ass little nigger or whatever the fuck

I only kept talking to say that I was complaining about the community in general, and sorry for just wanting to have fun without being a dick online

just the latest in a string of this happening every single day

I really want the Frosbite and Heart trails. Meanwhile, Lightning was my first random drop haha. I've used it exclusively since it dropped, as it is still the coolest one I own! Though I may switch out for New Confetti if Heart doesn't drop anytime soon. I really just want a trail with streamers. ^^
