Leave it to Japan to call a game that has to do with building/cultivating a town in an era of dinosaurs: "Birthdays"

This looks like a game that should be on 3DS or Vita, not a platform with an extremely limited family audience in Japan. But it's ASW and Toybox. Game probably has a $10 budget.
Just because it has a cute artstyle means it shouldn't be on other platforms outside of handhelds? Doesn't make sense, this game looks like a game my nieces would love to play on the TV

In Japan you have a point but worldwide it's the best choice. It has an audience and family audience worldwide.

This game has only been announced for release in Japan. Given the histories of both ASW and Toybox, Birthdays will either be released by a tiny publisher in the west or as a digital-only release with 0 advertising.

The question is what platform it seems like it belongs on given art style and target demographics.
They're not saying it can't be on whatever.

The last Wada game I played was Hometown Story, so my expectations are not high. That being said, I'm always down for something really different to play, so I'll try and remember to follow the news on this one.

ETA: This one sounds kinda Viva Piñata in concept, which I am a big fan of that type of game.
After Hometown Story, I'm less excited about new things from Wada.
agreed. Hometown story was not good..

Fuck that. Give me a new Harvest Moon that's like Back to Nature. Similar cute art style and all that.

Birthdays looks cute and fairly interesting, though.

Not sure if my wife will like the dino-infused direction of this new series, but I sure as hell am in (if it comes to the west...).

Go back further and u get this :0

This will never leave Japan, will it? :(

Doesn't seem to be particularly text heavy, so I'd assume this to be a relatively easy/cheap localization. You should probably be more worried about this game just not being good, considering that Wada's last game (Hometown Story) was flat out horrible.

This reminds me of the early 32bit era when Japan still dared to experiment with quirky ideas. Love what I see.

That's a very good description now that I think about it. It does indeed look like it comes from the era in which each game could look and play completely different because devs had more room to experiment and go with creative ideas due to smaller budgets, less high stakes etc. A shame much of this diversity is gone nowadays - in Japan or elsewhere - except perhaps for indie games.

is it wrong to assume that it will be a creation only game?

it looks to be a really cool one at that

and that is probably one of the fastest turn around's on confirming localization i've seen, thanks nisa!

Dammit OP you almost gave me a heart attack. I read "Harvest Moon" and "PS4" in the same sentence and I immediately got excited...

Any news on when or if Stardew Valley is ever coming to consoles yet?

Well looks like platform choice makes a lot more sense now
