That's a lot of context missing, Kamiya only posted on there make fun of people, Zelda got a ton disgusting shit lobbed at her.

Don't rose tint this stuff.

I wasn't intentionally rose tinting it. Lauren Faust got probably even more disgusting shit lobbed at her, too, which is why she stopped posting there.

There was a recent Nick podcast with her where they go into MLP's success and she brought up her pleasant surprise that 4chan of all places embraced. I don't think she's like, completely soured on the place.

Some of the boards were created for the express purpose of cleaning up shitposting. My Little Pony fans and images were clogging up so much of 4chan and in every thread that users started complaining en masse to management, so they got their own containment board.
aka the mods gave up lol. I don't know much about MLP outside of the olddd series & toys but it seems like the height of its present popularity is well over. So were it shutdown today would things be even nearly as bad as it had been in the past? There'd be initial backlash sure but nothing I'd imagine would be long lasting.

/mlp/ and /pol/ are proof 'containment' boards were a terrible idea that don't work and I completely blame the current political climate online on moot

Considering the alternative is them spilling out onto other places where they will relentlessly shitpost, I'll take what we've got.

That's not an alternative, that's literally what happened regardless of them existing. Having their own dedicated boards just allowed that stuff to fester and grow a sincere following instead of just naturally being shouted down or taken at face-value in whatever boards they were being shitposted in originally.

It's a fucking nightmare. Almost every goddamn thread is just people that don't even read comics going "hurr durr, marvel & dc are being taken over by sjws".
i can't believe sjw's forced dc to make poison ivy gay for harley

4chan actually is partially to blame for one of my friends turning into a /pol/ memester, sadly.

He told me he's not actually serious but he spends almost all of his time posting about 'mudslimes' and jews...but how can you spend almost all of your waking hours pretending to be a caricature of a Stormfront poster and not at least partially start letting that leak into how you actually think?

Those people might still exist, but at least they won't be able to coalesce into some organized hate group like they are now. And even if they would try to move somewhere new en masse, that doesn't mean we give them any quarter where they are now.

There's more to /co/ than marvel and dc comics you know.

In fact I'd argue the best parts of /co/ are the Wakfu, Dofus, and Gumball threads.

The reactions here were also pretty great.
It's been awhile but I'm 99% sure there's a picture from me on both /v/'s original card and the rebuttal card GAF sent to Iwata during his sickness.

The pointless shit storm over that on both sides, especially with /v/ not even liking Nintendo of America now is still great.

I actually got into Wakfu/Dofus thanks to /co/! I have a feeling since a lot of animation is from younger creators than comics and a lot of what /co/ consumes is from the California area it's naturally left-leaning those threads even nowadays tend to be less eye-rolling. Not sure about nowadays but earlier in its run Steven Universe threads were also surprisingly civil given how unapologetically 'Tumblr' that show is.

The success of others absolutely infuriates me.

That's a shame. I can't imagine being around someone like that without cringing all the time. But yeah, the cognitive dissonance simply isn't there when a lot of trolls like your friend go around acting like normal people.

/v/ in general regrets sending this and anytime its suggested to thank people for doing something users always point to that event. After Xenoblade Chronicles X, #FE, Fire Emblem Fates, and Fatal Frame 5 many have come to decide that people doing good things doesn't necessarily mean they'll always be doing good things, so /v/ is very averse to doing things like this now.

Its a shame, because I like the idea of working together to thank people or congratulate people or any similar positive sentiments, but I understand the worry after all that.

I don't think its how "tumblr-y" or left-leaning the shows are. I'd argue that politics has absolutely nothing to do with why those threads are so good. Its just, cartoons have a niche following and as you said aren't as old. There's no feeling of something someone likes changing. Comics go way back, but such cartoons are pretty much from this decade. Something that new can't change into something different; it just is its own thing. So people aren't feeling disgruntled with changes that occur over time in works.

This might sound like a tv trope, but how long can you pretend to be someone else before you no longer have to pretend? Say something long enough, and you eventually convince yourself it's true. If you want to you can ask him that. There's sure to be plenty of discussion online about people who lead double lives finding it hard after a while to distinguish between what used to be two separate personalities.

/v/ confirming what pessimistic people said about /v/ when they sent the card.

Yeah. "I'm not a racist, I just like spending hours every day telling people their family belongs in an oven." If I can't tell the difference than I don't care about a difference.

I feel sort of responsible, too. I met him when he was still a teenager with an anime signature on a vbulletin game clan board, and since I'm a couple years older than him I ended up being the vehicle for him being introduced to 4chan.

I'd still trust him with all kinds of things, but frankly I'm tired (and have told him so) of seeing him talking about designated shitting streets and how the Jews did 9/11. You might be asking yourself 'well why the fuck do you still hang out with him, then?' Well, because when he's not off on a tangent about stuff like that I enjoy his company.

He might grow out of it someday, hopefully. He's in his early 20s now so I sure hope that comes soon.

Does it matter whether someone's pretending or genuine?

/pol/ needs to be purged. It's shit spreads everywhere like a lingering cancer. 4chan has always been shit but, lately it's become toxic. Shit posting, trip-morons, and edgy kids with meme spams have ruined everything.

/tv/ used to be good but, bane shit posting destroyed it and /pol/ destroyed what was left.

Well I've said before that it doesn't matter if someone eats feces ironically, they're still eating feces. While the effect is the same, my point was more about how someone might do it at first for the shock value, but if they do it enough they become acclimated or possibly acquire a taste for it.

I'm not condoning his behavior, I'm just pointing out that the longer he engages in a behavior, the more likely it is to become habit forming and personality changing.

I can understand maybe 1% of the thread right now. What's going on.
Ask some questions
What don't you understand, exactly?

The premise of the thread is that the owner of 4chan, Hiroyuki, is currently having trouble funding 4chan and is looking for solutions. In response to this, Martin Shkreli, someone with an apparently shady history, is seemingly interested in becoming a new owner and funding 4chan. This is causing many users to panic and people are uncertain of 4chan's future. There are other things, such as a post by 4chan's Twitter account saying "I'm sorry" fairly recently, and in general people are wondering what's happening/is going to happen.

In response to this, people have been coming up with suggestions to solve the problem related to Hiroyuki's statements on 4chan, which included the prospect of deleting some boards to make running the site cheaper. So people are talking about what specific boards based on what's posted in them should be removed if any, amongst other discussion about 4chan in general.
And from the ashes, a new 4chan will be born. Evolved, but untamed! The weak will be purged and the strongest will thrive - free to live as they see fit, they'll make 4chan great again!
Where's Raiden when you need him?

I can vaguely get this. It's more about the full-on terminology being thrown in the last few pages.

4chan helped spawn Katawa Shoujo, so some good came of it.

Speaking which, GAF, when is DudeBro: MSIFUSIGtS/S II: IS-UDT coming out again? :^)

I hope the porn boards don't go. Best thing 4chan is for IMO.

The site as a whole is reprehensible though and I say that as someone who spent way way way too much time lurking form 2011-13. I would be happy if it as a whole was just gone because I'm convinced it would be a net positive, though it wouldn't change much as people would just migrate to some clone site.

4chan is also responsible for Pokemon Sage, VA-11 HALL-A, the popularity of Minecraft (Notch posted on /v/ in the very early days of the alpha,) and they have an amateur game dev general where all kinds of stuff is getting made (which is where VA-11 HALL-A originated.)

Well, as far as what's been mentioned, as far as board names go, here's what they mean:
/v/ - video game board
/vg/ - video game general board (think community threads here)
/vp/ - Pokemon board
/vr/ - retro video games board
/a/ - anime and manga board
/jp/ - Japanese culture board
/m/ - mecha board
/co/ - cartoons and comics board
/b/ - random "anything goes" board (except for blatantly illegal content)
/pol/ - politics board/board where people try to be politically incorrect, both as a joke and seriously
/aco/ - Western pornographic art
/h/ - Japanese pornographic art
/gif/ - Pornographic gifs and webms
/e/ - nonpornographic yet sexually oriented art
/r9k/ - board where lonely people complain about life
/mu/ - music board
/tv/ - Television shows board

And a few pieces of extra terminology:
baneposting - Posting memes related to the character Bane from the Batman films. Typically goes something along the lines of "You're a big guy", "For you" and "crash this plane with no survivors"
tripcodes - A code and name assigned to a user themselves so as to not be anonymous
Pepe - Frog character from a very old comic that got popular with /r9k/ and /pol/ that resulted in many image edits and memes based on him. Recently touted as being racist and/or a white nationalist symbol by the media
moot - original owner and creator of 4chan

Any other terminology you'll need to be more specific about though.

TheSeks

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
The two options are selling to Shkreli or deleting /pol/

Two very different roads to go down...

Deleting /pol/ wouldn't do shit, they'd just invade another board and business as usual. The major problem is people ad-blocking (but understandable if you've used the site since 2003/before ads were needed) and Moot's replacement not asking Moot on ideas on how to keep it on breaking even. Even DURING Moot's tenure, you had donation drives or moot struggling to pay the bill.
