Pokemon Sun/Moon new info - Starter evolutions, Demo, Ash-Greninja

is the anime canon now ? what is "Ash" and will we see it in sun/moon?

Ash-Greninja has powered up thanks to the strength of its bonds with Ash. This is the form Greninja takes when it has gained new power due to the miraculous occurrence known as the bond phenomenon. This can be brought on by the bonds between people and Pokémon. It seems that it has only known to have occurred once—several hundred years ago.

Looking online, I was just reminded about Eternal Floette. Although that was a separate form, not an ability. They could always retcon it, or just put the form in the game with Light of Ruin.

This will probably be the first gen where I deviate from the water starter. I like all the designs, but Dartrix and his potential final form look amazing. Dartrix like such a smug prick, it's great.

It's actually interesting to see people complain about a feminine looking starter when more of the starters have looked more masculine leaning in ways. Not saying anyone here but I noticed quite a few of those Poketubers state how uncomfortable they are with it.

Because femininity is bad. ...Or something like that.
But yeah, I see what you mean. I can definitely appreciate Popplio's line going the more feminine route, just not really digging it yet.

I don't know if the anime is gonna be canon but it would be neat if Ash was the league champion this gen.

It's okay, someone fixed Brionne's design already.

Like i get not digging it that's fine. I just dont like people flat out dismissing it cause it looks "girlish" that seems like a silly reason to hate something.

Maybe in the games we'all obtain it from the trainer who used it many years ago (maybe AZ)?

Then again I dunno why they would call it "Ash Greninja" still. The name only exists because people go around calling it that I guess, because in reality it's just a Greninja with a different HA that gives it a form change. I wish they would have taken the opportunity to just refer to it as "Bond Greninja."

Also I cannot grasp the hate for the starters. Then again, people hate Pokémon designs with whimsy and passion I've never seen before when it comes to discussion of fictional creatures. I think all three starters are brilliant the whole way through. Only the second time I've felt that way (Gen VI was the first).

Which poketubers are saying that?

I feel the reason is that some people are very, uh... offended(?) by things that aren't masculine, especially in a game like Pokemon that is (I assume) primarily played by males. They probably feel the need to dislike Pokemon like Brionne or Braixen because they aren't "cool". Or look like they aren't designed "for them". On a side note; I've also noticed that people tend to refer to all Pokemon, whether they are genderless or not, with male pronouns. I dunno. It's like we just have this masculine perception of things. I guess 'it's a man's world' holds some weight. Bleh.

I don't get it. We've had feminine looking starters for ever (meganium line, serperior line, delphox line), why are people complaining now?

Brionnes design makes sense and it seems it will be one of the most interestingly designed water starters, even if it is not my cup of tea.

So I guess Poké Pelago the replacement for the berry field? The Japanese trailer shows berry stuff happening. Hopefully that means I'm saved from having to water those things...wonder what the growth times will be like. I also get a feeling Pokeblocks are be back but I guess I'll see what the analysis machine comes up with.

Triple and rotation battles are gone

Game freak removing more features
I did find it jarring how the news release just straight out denied they ever existed by saying "The three existing sets of battle rules for Rating Battles". Do Gamefreak not know how to count.

I'm sure it's like the battle frontier where interviews will play out similar with Gamefreak being "I'm sure there are plenty of battle facilities to play with others".

One the other hand, less of a chance of a copy/paste maison like XY and ORAS.
Inverse battles are finally getting their time to shine? Inverse double battles? :p
I'm not sure how you can read that based on what was said. I think the battle subway teams (maybe even older than that) are going to be copied and pasted yet again in the postgame battle facility (who really wants to come up a few thousand new movesets?). I'd like for them to fix the daft things like random abilities but hold items designed around a specific ability and various AI hicups (e.g. burning their own team mate as that is the only target wil o' wisp will work on, getting into a weather war with itself).

Makes me wonder if he's banned from regular battle spot singles?
It is banned from ranked because the season 1 special rules state the following:
http://www.pokemon-sunmoon.com/en-us/new-pokemon-global-link-features/ said:
In a special Season 1, which will begin November 18, this special format is anticipated to be a Single Battle format where you’ll be able to participate with Pokémon that cannot take part under other battle rules: the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala, the Magearna that can be obtained through the QR Scanner, the Ash-Greninja obtainable through the Special Demo Version, and others!

Prob the need to dislike it. They will prob just get over it and soft reset for a female or something.

Yeah im not sure why people would complain now. I GUESS they would complain less if Pokemon were more 50/50 ratio with gender i suppose.

Do many of the starters seem gendered? Blaziken and Emboar are the only ones that seem definitely "male", one being a fighting rooster and the other a boar. Maybe Empoleon, given the armour drawing on a style worn by mostly male soldiers, but that seems a stretch. Female only has one, though, Delphox, so I guess the Popplio line is needed to balance it out.

I don't think the Popplio line is getting stick for being feminine, though. Braixen was enormously popular, possibly the first middle evo to really grab the community. It's getting stick for just being a bad design.

I'm pretty sure triples are not removed jesus it's just the temporary rule set that each new gen has.

^Also no, the Popplio line is not poorly designed.

We've had feminine starters for years, hell we had one last gen. I don't really see people hate on Braixen because it's feminine. I love Braixen's design but I really don't like Brionne at all. It doesn't help that I didn't like Popplio either (and Fennekin is my least favorite starter of them all), I just think Brionne's design is straight up ugly

One reason I can think of is because starters have a 75% chance of being male. So the majority of all starters are going to be male.

Grovyle was the supporting character for an entire spin off. He takes the crown for the first middle evolution to move beyond being an awkward middle between cute and powerful.

Meganium arguably.

Brionne is definitely getting shit for being too "girly"

I'd add in Infernape in there and Litten now. I'm going to guess what bothers them is that starters are mostly male anyways. Side note I actually really like Popplio design wise so lol.

I've always really disliked this. It's just annoying and borderline discriminatory. You can't really retcon it now for previous starters because of trade compatibility, but I would really like to see newly designed starters have equal gender ratios from here on in.

I think people only see Meganium as gendered because Ash's was a female. All three of the Johto starters have always seemed completely gender neutral to me. Probably the most neutral of all the generations.

I'm thinking of a name for my pro-wrestling tiger. Tiger Mask is too on the nose and most "puro-resu" tend to have English names.

Gato Libre

You're not gonna like this, and it's some bs, but starters being mostly male makes them a little more special since you can't breed males to get the same Pokemon. It makes them that much more rare.

Like I said. Some BS from gen 2 is my theory.

Actually it's probably that way to make breeding harder so that there's less starters getting bred. It would make sense if of course there wasn't a ditto farm so readily available like in X/Y (seriously pokemon village has no other purposes).
