Where is the hype for ps4 pro???

Are there really consumers who would buy (or not buy) a console based on its physical appearance?
They don't want an "ugly" PS4Pro, but if it was "pretty" they would buy it?
I don't think there are a lot of people like that.

Personally I won't be getting one for the reasons many have mentioned:
no 4K/HDR tv
not getting PSVR
not significantly better than regular PS4 (ie. not a generational leap like Scorpio)
(supposedly) no exclusive content.

That last one is a big one for me as it's the only reason I got a PS4 in the first place.

(If Bloodborne 2 runs at a locked 60fps on the Pro I'll be eating my words)

Wait, so you don't have a 4K/HDR TV but you're expecting Scorpio to provide the generational leap that PS4 Pro doesn't?

I'm not sure that's how things will work out, man.

I think I'll buy one depending on how different FF15 and TLG look in 1080p mode. If there's barely any difference, I can probably wait until I can afford a 4kHDR television or something. I mean, thinking about it, I'd only be buying it for first party releases and exclusive third party ones anyway.

I guess the lack of hype could also be due to the fact only a small percentage of people own HDR 4k Tvs.

I don't see any point of getting it, unless my OG ps4 breaks down.

I'm a PC gamer, I tend to upgrade my GPU every couple years. The PS4 Pro is a chance to do it on console. More power is a definite selling point, as I'm looking for the highest level of hardware performance.

I am not hyped for it. I do not own a 4k TV and I am cool with my current PS4. I would have to see it run on a 1080P TV before I make any buyers decision on getting one.

Better performance ?
I dunno about you, but playing FFXV on a normal PS4 compared to a Pro, will be certainly a better experience.
That goes for alot of upcoming titles.

And I don't own a 4k TV so far.
Will wait for the next year to see what will happen with the standards and prices.

I think its a combination of a few things:
1. Its ugly
2. Most people dont have 4k sets yet and dont see the need to upgrade
3. Confusion. They did a bad job of marketing it so far and the casual gamers i've talked to are either confused about what it does or they didnt even know it was coming out already
4. Lack of big exclusives that would show off its power

The only reason why I would exchange my ps4 for a ps4 pro is for the graphic comparison between vanilla and pro of FFXV and Horizon Zero Dawn.

A lot of people don't see the added value of the pro if you don't have a 4K tv.

Which is a shame because 1080p is actually where you'll see the best improvements (60fps, effects, post-processing). I read it's also useful for the PSVR ( saw an interview with farpoint developer where they say they use the raw power of the pro to increase resolution and therefore reduce blur/aliasing)

What do we need hype for man? It's PS4.5? It's the same games?

I don't get it? Would you be super hyped for IPhone 7 if you have a 6+?

And I'm getting it day one, because it's good value for me and I want it to better my VR games. Nothing to be hyped about though IMO. I'm hyped for good games, 😉

In this thread:

3x the compute power and SATA3 = "A modern day Rumble Pack accessory"

Support for UHD Blu-Ray discs = Killer app.

GAF, I love you, never change.

Getting a Privilege System 4 Pro for 2 reasons:
1. The marginal pro-mode graphical advantage.
2. My wife uses the main TV/PS4 for Netflix/Hulu/etc while ironing half the day on Saturday.

No no no. Didn't you read?

Lots have people here have said it's a minimal or marginal upgrade that will do nearly nothing at 1080. They must surely be right. /s

It'll be fun seeing the reactions to the various DF videos showing just what a pro does for you at 1080.

I have a 4K HDR TV, i just don't care about upgrading. I highly doubt I'll see enough of an improvement to games to make it worth the money over my perfectly good PS4.

The only reason i went from the release Xbox One to the One S was that it kept kicking me off line randomly, multiple times a day, and it was the only device on my network to do that. Traded it in and have had zero problems with the S. The 4K and HDR stuff just happens to be a nice bonus.

Why would anyone get hyped for something that is hardly any different to the previous console and with no need for it?

Post like these remind me of that famous GAF thread where Sony was predicted to end up in third place this gen. It's the same foolish under estimation of the appeal Sony's consoles have and will have to the worldwide mass market.

I remember when $400 is what we paid for next-gen platforms, not incremental upgrades.

Iphone/smartphones changed the game in more ways than one.

Still, like every other gamer salivating at the thought of an upspec'd Bloodborne, the Pro was on my wishlist for months. Sony's tepid presentation both in New York and Tokyo and no (announced) From support basically iced the party.

For what it's worth, judging from retailer sites (not just Amazon), it's provisionally sold out here in Japan. Bet that's more of a reflection of inflated reseller expectations than actual demand though.

I'm sure that it CAN do a lot at 1080p. The problem is that it's not automatic. Developers need to create a patch. It's not like on PC where the user can go from medium to very high when you get a new video card. If it was, I'd buy one in an instant.

People here do realize that the Battlefield 1 breakdown is going to look like this right?

Xbox One: 720p
PlayStation 4: 900p
PlayStation 4 Pro: 1080p

Maybe I'm wrong. But the ps4 pro does 4K tv, just not UHD bluray playback.

Likely, and with higher settings, and effects.

you know those settings weren't automatically created right? developers had to create those presets

i lost the hype for it when i realised i'd need to drop not only £350 for a new console but £300-500 on a new 4K tv to play most games in a resolution lower than 4K. it's not even worth buying just a PS4 pro to play at 1080p when i have a PC that can actually play games at 1440p 60fps or 4K 30fps.

Part of that is on Sony for not clearly showing what the power will do for 1080 displays.
That's bs... we have people here that could take a part a computer and put it back together. Cerny's presentation was boring, but it was informative. It's just a narrative driven by Sony dominating and no one wants to see that for too long, so let's exaggerate the mistakes and highlight the shortcomings.

My opinion of course. But I think the people off of forums will support Pro just fine.

I think they will push more than 1080p on Pro or details/effects will be way higher.

Of course the difference will be pretty noticeable.

They haven't done a great job saying what it will do for people playing on 1080p TVs or using PSVR, so there's not much to get hyped about.

This.

The last numbers I took a look at a few months ago indicated only ~5% of consumers own 4K TVs. Unless Sony figures out how to clearly explain the Pro's benefits to 1080p TV owners (the other 95% of the market), the Pro is going to be a very nice *niche* product when I would think Sony's goal would be to establish the Pro as the primary sku.

I just bought a ps4 amateur. I play all multiplatform games on PC so it's only really for exclusives. I'd rather save money plus I think the pro is an uglier box. My only concern is that Sony's new first party games with throw the original ps4 under the bus in terms of performance but I don't think they will.

I watched the conference, follow most gaming sites, and listen to 6+ hours of gaming podcasts a week and have heard next to nothing about the benefits for 1080p games. Why hasn't Sony produced videos highlighting what it can do for their first party games?

I am buying a Pro but have next to no idea what it will do for games at 1080p.

Most people have no idea of the benefits of SATA3, nor will they be changing the HD to a SSD to get the most benefits.

I find this very hard to believe. you'd have to be purposely avoiding info about 1080p improvements. they literally addressed it during the conference and lots of sites have brought it up as well

My guess is that they will

so because they're haven't been a ton of games highlighting differences in 1080p that means Sony said next to nothing?

I just don't get what you are talking about man, off the top I remember slides from the presentation, Cerny mentioning 1080p benefits and Epic showing off Paragon.

Can they do more? Sure, next to nothing? Hyperbole IMO. Like what are you even going to talk about exactly? games will look better on Pro period. What do we need all these tech analysis breakdown videos for when outlets like DF will already do that when the actual games come out that shows improvements.

Exactly. And yet there were plenty of people in previous threads saying anyone who didn't come away from Cerny's presentation fully understanding everything about its 1080p relevance must just be a bunch of mouth breathing rubes. The truth is Sony dropped the ball on clearly explaining why 95% of the population who own 1080p TVs should bother with a Pro.

Devs can improve framerate, boost the texture quality, better AA and downsampling, more lush environments, better quality shadows, better effects, etc

Sony's just launched VR last week -- they've been massively pre-occupied. I think they'll start ramping up the PS4 Pro hype towards the end of this month. You'll know it's coming by the time it's about to release, I'm sure of that.
