New Bones tape is short and sweet. Not as good as PaidProgramming2, but still very consistent. Right in time for Halloween rap car creeping.

R* def the goats for me. Can't say I've played a bad game from them since Max Payne 1.

Naughty Dog too.

I'd say bungie but well. Reach happened.

And MW3 from IW.

I respect Rockstar because they always push tech + detail, and they play in thematic sandboxes I like, but the games just aren't that fun to me anymore. Except Max Panye 3, but even then they totally screwed up with the garbage storytelling

Naughty Dog has been extreme hot and cold since UC2. UC3 was wack, TLOU was great, UC4 is bleh.

Bungie has been letting me down since Halo 3. I liked the Reach campaign, but that's about it.

IW been trash since the exodus + lawsuit.

Red Dead Redemption is pretty overrated.

That is all.

GTA V is better though

You're slowly beating out peterboy for the wackest opinions in this thread. Between Enzo and Cheddahz thats a huge feat. Congrats.

.

It is by a longshot. Max Payne 3 too.

that one i still gotta play one day, yeah

Who's peterboy.

scust at this disrespect, haha

Between R* and ND there's like one game I'd put on my personal favourite list, which is TLOU. And the DLC for that was boring as hell. I'm not that hot on open world games or most TPS not called Max Payne, Vanquish or Resident Evil.

Max Payne 3 was a slog to go through but the gameplay pockets were fantastic. Prefer MP1 & 2 on repeated playthroughs.

I think the gameplay in Max Payne 3 was enough to carry me through. They def ain't remedy when it comes to storytelling.

Until they announce another 80s GTA in Miami I don't think I'll get hyped for the franchise anymore. Shit another country, too.

I fucks with Max Payne. Surprised we haven't got a new one yet.

Or Midnight Club.

Bully is overdue tho.

I don't think we are, unless its a reboot of the franchise. Besides, 3 ended on a pretty good note for Max, though he's definitely dying of cirrhosis in the next 10 years. I hope they only make a new MP if they have a good idea for it, else forget it. However, I do think its a shame we'll never get another Bully because of a) how idiots would react to it ("My child can't be playing a game called "Bully", I'd rather he play those wholesome "Call O' Doodies" on his Nintendo instead.") and b) well, where do you go from a high school student simulator?. A Bully 2 nowadays might as well be a typing sim, where you make fake Grindr profiles and tell kids to kill themselves. The time has come and gone for a Bully 2. Midnight Club too, considering racing games nowadays don't sell unless you're Forza or GT. How well has Dirt sold? Or GRID? Or even modern NFS? Casual racing games are out of vogue now.

Rockstar made State of Emergency and GTA IV which in my opinion were both pretty wack.

Max Payne OG was fantastic, Red Dead Redemption and Vice City are probably their best sandbox games due to the tightened focus, character study, and pacing.

Not enough love in here for PC FPS, which in my opinion contained a greater deal of depth at an earlier era than their console counterparts.

Bungie talks a lot about ambition but are actually pretty stagnant and not well rounded in terms of the types of games they develop.

GTAV just felt like them chasing San Andreas in response to the backlash to GTAIV.

pretty much, most notably the shift back to the more over-the-top, zany tone. and they basically just gave up on the driving.

it's still a great game but i think i prefer IV, and RDR is miles better than both

RDR
Vice City
San Andreas
V

that's it for their open world games for me. Also Max Payne 2 was the best of the series I think. When Rockstar got a hold of it the gunplay was still hella good, as was the soundtrack and Tony Scott-style presentation. But god damn more intrusive cutscenes than an MGS game. Such a shit decision.

Really close to how I'd rank except III would probably be right under San Andreas and definitely over the last two.

As if this is going to stop you guys from pre-ordering it for the limited edition Trevor skin only usable in multiplayer.

I just hope Rockstar do something cool with the Magnificent 7-esque team they're working with for the sequel. The Wild West is one thing but I'd love to see Rockstar's take on the Gold Rush era of California; San Francisco being densely populated to snow capped peaks to beaches to whatever else they choose.

Yeah that'd be great it's almost the height of The Wild West which is a stark contrast to the end of The Wild West in Red Dead Redemption.

I dunno bout casual racing games but I'll take an NBA street right bout now

MP3 is like the most abusive videogame relationship I've ever been in. I literally played it again 2 weeks ago, frustrated the entire time. How could such great gunplay, music, and locations go to waste like that? Like the 10th time I've hate played a big chunk of that game.

What a soundtrack though.

Speaking of unrealized potential, you guys played or keeping up with Mafia 3? Talk about game design completely letting down what's probably the best presented, written, and acted narrative in an open world action game.

What is it with people and dead genres?

As long as EA has the market cornered on basketball games, you ain't getting shit. I wouldn't be surprised to learn competition was why they made Street in the first place and now with Live/Elite dead and no one else willing to put in the money to make a competitor, EA's going to make each new iteration basically the same to make free money.

The way I see it, casual racing games/arcade-y sports games have gone the way of the text adventure, point n' click, games with features unlocked by skillful feats, character action games, and so on. They're never going to have their moment in the sun ever, and will be relegated to a hardcore fanbase that'll get less and less offerings till their genre gets phased out completely.

I dug Max Payne 3, but considering I'm only about halfway through the story, it might explain why I like it. And frankly, although I like it, it does have the occasional issue that can be frustrating, such as enemy encounters being downright aggravating at times, the cut-scenes, some of the story beats are just puzzling, etc. That being said, it definitely isn't a hot mess and as a package, I overall like the aesthete Rockstar chose for their grizzled hero's last hurrah despite the annoying color flashes at times. I never really noticed the music either, and now that I'm a fan of HEALTH, I should go back and really pay attention this time to it.

I'll be sure to buy TWO copies of NBA Street and Midnight Club.

That's what people get when they wanted an open world in a Mafia game. They don't even do the whole Mafia tree simulation aspect of it well, like the Godfather games did.

That and the whole diversity thing. Lol.

After Django Unchained and Magnificent Denzel, there's no reason there can't be playable minorities in a Western game. I will speak with my wallet and won't buy Red Dead Redemption 2
because I don't have a PS4/XB1

I'm hoping people are just jumping the gun and that the cast is more diverse than they're thinking.

R* is one of the better mainstream devs around when it comes to that. Many of their best characters have been minorities, females or even gay with Tony Prince.
