American Horror Story: ? |OT| We know nothing about this season

Just watched the episode, loved the twist. I bet the twist in episode 9 is that it abandons the found footage format too and takes on the same format as previous seasons, including an opening intro.

Theory time:
The events that the original Roanoke series were based on were, with the exception of the death of Lee's husband, the Polk family, and Lee's kid going missing, were a complete fabrication. This explains why the "real" folks were so willing to go back to the house. There is something evil in the woods that has coerced one of the cast members (hence, the one survivor), and all the ghosts we see from now on are manifestations created by the popularity of the original series.
I like this theory. The ghosts aren't following the rules for ghosts set out in all the previous seasons. Ghosts in Murder House, Coven, Freakshow and Hotel had no problems murdering people at will, and they shouldn't be able to be caught on camera.

I think it's possible that the thing doing this might be the land itself, using the Witch as a tool. The land was shown moving way back in episode 1. It's possible it could be the Old God that the witch serves.

I've gone hot and cold on this season as I've been watching each week, but I just saw the latest episode and I have to admit that was a cool way to switch things up and keep me interested in what happens next.

Been watching this season not feeling it at all, hoping that the "twist" would pull me back, and it was so bad. This season is terrible to me and I don't get how people are enjoying it. The first 5 eps are basically pointless boring filler to set up a premise which may or may not be good in the 2nd half of the season. It's just a huge waste of time.

Season 3 is the only one I never finished because it was too dumb. Not gonna finish this one either. It's a shame because I was really excited they were going back to horror after the cringy pop stuff in Hotel but it's just not interesting at all unfortunately. I'm honestly surprised because in Freakshow and Hotel I still found certain characters interesting enough to continue to want to see where their arc goes even when it got stupid but this season there's nothing.

Props to Angela Bassett for directing that episode. Let me tweet her some praise.

Can't wait to see the rest of the season.

The "looks like candles, is actually torches" shot was fantastic. She did an incredibly good job, especially for a second timer.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "going back to horror". The show has never really been all that horror-y except insofar as it throws a million horror tropes into a blender. If anything, Freakshow felt like it had the fewest horror elements overall.

That's where things get sticky, though, because that was shown in the reenactment. It's hard to know which parts of that to trust.

It definitely seems like the land itself is corrupted in a Lovecraftian kind of way, but almost everything up to this point has been unreliable. It's hard to say anything for sure.

Well, Lovecraftian horror is actually a trope they haven't touched on, so far as I remember. They seem to be trying to hit a lot of new notes this season.

I wouldn't be at all shocked if there was some sort of "Color Out of Space"-esque entity under that tree from the logo and that Lee's daughter's jacket was at the top of.

Yeah, they haven't done that, and it would make much more sense if that's what is going on instead of just ghosts again after they just did them.

While I would fucking LOVE a Lovecraftian AHS season, because seeing anything Lovecraft with any kind of decent budget is always wonderful, I just don't know if I trust them with it. I'd watch it, don't get me wrong, I'd watch the shit out of it. But if they fucked it up it would make me so sad.

Honestly disappointed even thinking about this now, knowing that the next couple seasons are just going to be retreading stuff (Freak Show, Coven) instead of doing something new. Besides Lovecraft there's still a ton of horror tropes they haven't done. They stressed they'd never do aliens since it's not "Intergalactic Horror Story it's American Horror Story" which I think is bullshit (hello, Roswell New Mexico is in America) but they could totally do a season of American legends like Bigfoot and the Jersey Devil. Monsters in the sewers of New York, mad scientists making hybrid animals (Asylum sort of did this but I'd like to see it be the actual focus) they could do time travel/teleportation sci-fi horror, so much. God I'm so fuckin disappointed he wants to go back to Freak Show. Coven I can sort of give a pass to since there's a huge number of things they can do with witches and they meant to do wizards but left it out, but fuckin Freak Show? Ugh.

Strange how this series seems to be a real split between people liking it and people hating it, i'm definitely the former, it's great!

Uhhhhh

(whole series)
They already did Aliens
Barely. I meant I want a season actually dedicated to it. I feel like they could do much more with it when it's the main focus and not one of like 70 different things they're doing the same season (I love Asylum but it was STUFFED).

But also yes, I thought their quote about why they wouldn't do it seemed fucking stupid since they already had.

I find this show's audience is 110% all over the map. For instance, I didn't finish the first one but loved Hotel. Didn't care for Circus or Asylum but Witches was fun.

Can't comment on Roanoke because we're biased living within driving distance lol

I'm totally back on board. I kinda fell off the past few episodes but ended up catching up again hearing that there was some big change. I really enjoyed that episode. It actually felt creepy not knowing what's really and what's not. Loved the bit about the everyone died except for one. It's like the opposite of the docu part of the season since we know all of them survived. I really hope they can keep it up for the rest of the season.

Yeah my brain was racing when I read that and I was like "why the fuck would they tell us everyone died?!" and then the rest of the sentence sank in and I was like "ooohhhh you clever fuckers" heheheheheh

Is it weird that literally anytime I think about this show outside of watching the newest episode that stupid French song from Asylum plays full blast in my head?
Like everytime I glance at the dvd sets at work its immediately in my head.

Not fond of this season which is a shame, last season sucked too why GaGa got so much praise is beyond me (so far she has been ok this season cos we rarely see her). I found the last episode an improvement as I didn't like the tv show angle, but as an English man the accents are absolutely terrible even from such high caliber actors it ruins it.

God damn this season is so good. I've hated every season since the first one. This one is like... actual horror with actual suspense. I fucking love it.

Good stuff though I have to admit im disappointed there isn't an opening like previous seasons. I thought maybe I had missed it last week as I tuned in late but alas, it appears theyvr decided to skip that altogether.
