New Daytona game for arcades announced

i've always been a bit lost when it comes to sega's arcade teams. AM2 stuff is easy to spot, kancolle arcade has AM2's logo stamped on lots of its material. stuff like maimai, chunithm, initial d and border break that get frequent updates probably have dedicated teams. but, like, who works on stuff like the let's go shooters and operation ghost? that's sorta eluded me lol

anyways, a daytona remaster with new tracks and features is probably one of the best possible outcomes. mitsuyoshi has had his hand in a bunch of stuff lately so i'll be really disappointed if they don't get him for some new tunes here!

Great news, but too bad there is a pretty slim chance for me to play this any time soon. Still good to hear that they make it as an arcade game first and I'm hoping that one day they will release it for consoles.

I've been in contact with both Sega and Raw Thrills regarding their latest releases (I'm the one that got the "rumor" started, thanks to sources telling me that Daytona Reloaded was shown in Chicago in September).

There hasn't been a single word mentioned about RT and Sega working together so no one needs to worry about that. Given that they are going head-to-head with Cruis'n Blast vs Daytona Reloaded, that wouldn't make sense for competitors to do that in the arcade market as it is. If anything, RT and Bandai Namco have been working together lately (RT developed Super Alpine Racer, Pac-Man Chomp Mania, Galaga Assault and World's Largest Pac-Man for Namco).

It's worth noting that the IAAPA trade show that happens in two weeks is essentially the E3 of the arcade industry. I know of these racing games that will be there:

Daytona Reloaded (Sega)
Cruis'n Blast (Raw Thrills)
Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5 (Namco)
Ultra Race (Universal Space, a Chinese company)
Overtake DX (Wahlap/IGS; Chinese/ Taiwanese)

And we'll probably see a few other racing games from Chinese companies that no one will really see over here.
Forget Daytona, gimme Maximum Tune 5!

Hope that this game uses the motor of daytona 2 rather than 1.

In one hand I will love to see an new engine, but Daytona design is so iconic that I'm ok with this

Plus 22 years after, the game is still gorgeous at his 60 fps. Having an arcade machine near my house is a blessing

AM2 is behind Border Break too, they seem to be pretty busy this year, released Kancolle, a major revision for Border Break, are working on the new series Soul Reverse &
I hope
they are working on VF6 too.

It's using the same game engine from previous entries as a base for maintaining consistent physics and at least 18 years have passed since Daytona 2 originally released.
That's insane.

Well, you are in luck.

It was the right choice, that engine conveys a sense of speed that not many engines even modern ones can replicate.

Haven't played any of the Daytona games, but it's good to see Sega is looking into reviving their existing catalog of classic IPs. Hopefully they don't pull a Sonic 4 and produce a crappy effort; and that it gets a console release as well.

Raw Thrills plz

"Raw Thrills plz"

I'll fight you.

*looks at tag*

"Some ol gangster shit" it is then.

Also, LOL at getting a new Daytona before 90's Arcade Racer

ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

That may be. But it is still nuts thinking to use that because it's the best option after nearly two decades.

I imagine that part of the reason in using the old engine is possibly to keep costs down, whereas it would take some time writing a new engine that behaves like the originals. I mean, arcade racers aren't as en vogue now as they were back in the day the first two games were released.

That and I'd say that sometimes, it's usually best to not to "fix" or replace something that (I imagine most fans of the first two games may tell you) wasn't really "broken" or "dated" in the first place.

This is great to hear, but I'm wondering. Will this be like Sega Racing Classic and use original graphics, or will the graphics have a complete overhaul?

Will try this out once I see it, for sure.

This is fantastic news all around and I look forward to playing it. Hopefully it will have some sort of card/upgrade system like ID/MT.

Raw Thrills plz

Raw Thrills have only made one racing game (Cruis'n and its derivatives, like F&F) over and over again. They're pretty good at it, but at this point I feel like they should not be allowed to touch any others.

H2Overdrive is astounding though...

Raw Thrills only assisted with and published that, they didn't develop the base game.

If this stays arcade only, then I will never play it lol.

No point in getting excited if it stays in arcades.

I swear to god this better get a console port

Don't fucking pull that arcade-only bullshit

Or you could just, you know, leave your house.

I honestly hope this stays arcade-exclusive. The few arcades that remain are facing almost impossibly long odds to staying in business. They're trying their best, but making money on arcade gaming is so difficult in today's economy--especially in the USA--and they can use all the help they can get.

Arcades are still fun, folks. You can enjoy Time Crisis 5, Let's Go Island, and the new DDR while you're at it. And if you're lucky enough to be in a place that has Initial D 8, then you can see what a *real* modern arcade racing game is like.

OMG OMG OMG OMG IS THIS REAL

FORGET DAYTONA AND ID, FINALLY WE CAN PLAY MAXI5!??!?!? IT'S BEEN YEARS SINCE MAXI3 OH GOD

Finally, the best driving game ever made actually comes to North America?! Has D&B or Round1 or any other major chain announced that they're getting it?????

Do we even know what Sega Japan is up to at this point? Is it all mobile stuff?

They do a lot more than mobile, right now their in house console teams are developing Yakuza 6, Sonic 2017 and Puyo Puyo Chronicles from the games they've announced. Can't really recall much about their arcade scene but I know KanColle was released this year and was a big hit.

First ShenMue 3 now Daytona 3...now all we need is a new instalment of Virtua Fighter and we are good to go!!

Apparently "SEGA has assembled as much of the original Daytona team as they could to develop this game, including Takenobu Mitsuyoshi on sound."

Quote from SEGAbits. Sounds like a good deal if true, I'm ready for this game
and to not be able to play it for awhile

Yakuza 6, Sonic Mania, Daytona 3... WHAT A TIME TO BE A SEGA FAN AGAIN.

Now I definitely AM expecting Virtua Fighter 6 to make 2017.

What a dumb thing to say? As if leaving your house automatically guarantees that you have an arcade anywhere near you, let alone an arcade that actually has the game you want to play.

I guess what I said was at least as short-sighted as "no point in getting excited if it doesn't come to consoles," so for that I am sorry.

But at least in the US, Dave & Buster's has locations all over the country, so it is within driving distance for many people. Maybe not the majority of people, but many people. Round1 is significantly expanding and they want to be everywhere too. It's possible that many posters here have a location closer to them then they'd think.

It does suck that many folks have no arcades near them any more. But if those that do choose to go to them more frequently, maybe that will change. Everything comes and goes in waves. If we continue to see announcements like this, perhaps there could be a resurgence sometime in the future.

While true, just because there's an arcade near you doesn't mean they'll have the game you want to play. You even said yourself "if you're lucky to find one with Initial D 8" so you know that unfortunate truth too. And not only that but I've found finding arcades that are even remotely current to be a challenge too ):

I'd love to have arcades come back in a big way though. I'm lucky in that the closest Dave & Busters for me is only about 20-30 minutes away and it does, thank the lord, have Daytona, but if it didn't the next nearest D&B is over an hour and a half away. I wish there were more ):

It'd be super helpful if you could input your location on their website and they provided a list of their current games at each location. That would have really helped when trying to find Daytona while visiting my girlfriend in Texas, and with trying to track the single Disney Tsum Tsum arcade machine as it toured the US to collect the little charms ;__;
