I wouldn't even call her a parody; it's a real shame her origin is forever tied to those dumb variant covers, because if she was called anything other than Gwenpool, people would be raving about what a fantastic addition she is to the Marvel Universe.

Gwenpool is somehow better then she has any right to be.

That said, I think she would be a waste of a slot, if you can't get Deadpool because of Fox fine, but give the slot to someone more interesting, Gwen is not a replacement for Deadpool.

It would cool to see her tell the Capcom characters they are in a game and reveal the Capcom enemies weak spots.

I could easily see them just giving Logan's moves to Black Panther.

Logan and Black Panther fight nothing alike, though. Logan is berserk and just tries to tear through you like a wild animal. T'Challa is calculating and skilled. I'm pretty sure Capcom will have their unique take on the character without having to reuse Wolvie's stuff.

Going with the "good chance to return because they are reusing models and animations" narrative, Marvel characters that should be a shoe-in:

Dr. Strange for obvious reasons
Dormammu because of Strange
Iron Fist because of the show
She Hulk has a new comic
Spider Man because they made nice with Sony.
Hawkeye, Thor and Hulk because Avengers
Rocket because Guardians
Nova is back in the comics
Ghost Rider is on tv and in the comics, even if its a different one.

Shuma could with his relation to Strange but hes so obscure (and was dlc) that I was shocked he was even in 3.

Modok and Tasky could come back, but they have nothing going on in comics or in movies or in...anything.

No X-Men, Skrull and Deadpool for now for obvious reasons.

So we're looking at 10-14 easy returns, with the 3 now announced makes 13-17, with some new characters like Kamala, Gwenpool, Starlord, Groot, Black Panther, Daredevil for example, we could be looking at a "easy" 20-25 per side for a 40-50 character roster, which would classify as huge like the Marvel dude said I guess.

This is of course just wishful thinking ;_;

Also im bored at work.

Mark this post, because I am positive it is Crystal Hunter from X2. It's a round, semi-liquid and is flying at an arc. The attack in the trailer also has "shiny" effects flying off it just like the attack does in SNES and when Crystal Snail uses it. Considering the odd arc for a fighting game projectile, it's a zoning tool similar to SFV's Sim's fireballs and if it hits it will immobilize the opponent in a crystal shell.

That's probably it. The arc makes sense, there's also some effect behind it as well so I can see that.

Dope.

There are several (Squadron Supreme, Squadron Sinister, Great Society)

Squadron typically contains
Hyperion
Nighthawk
Speed Demon/Whizzer
Warrior Woman
Doctor Spectrum

When it comes to X, I just hope they give him a technique from every game similar to Zero. I don't understand X as well as I do Zero because I often choose Zero in the X games. Actually, seeing X revealed makes me want to play through the games again.

One of the things I enjoyed playing through the X series was seeing where most of Zero's techniques originated from. Might as well do it with X this time around.

Marvel's going to be tight with the roster, and that's sad. Hopefully we'll get some interesting characters like Quake and Bucky. I'm interested in what Capcom does. So many of their IPs have been just sitting in a drawer for years, I wonder how many of them we're going to see. Give me some Red Earth & Rival Schools representation, guys.

X fans, question...

0:21 seconds in the official video, before Iron-Man hits him we see X shoot something that doesn't look like a normal buster shot. It travels a little slower compared to his normal buster shot as well, travels up and then sort of down at an angle...what move is that? Is that some MvC Shotgun Ice?

I feel like it's some made up move, and that bothers me a lot. I'm expecting to see some moves from his games. At least that move doesn't look familiar to anything to me.

Also, I'm expecting him to have one of the shields as a special. :p

Im relieved to see Morrigan return. Chun is my pick for boring, inevitable return, but if she gets some of her SFV DLC costumes, I'd be pretty happy with that at least.

I wonder how many characters they'll reveal with each trailer going forward, we got a total of six today. That's a nice number for a game that will have a "huge" roster. Unless they plan to do a million trailers like SNK did for KOF XIV.

Can't find any other attack that looks as similar as that.

I think it's pretty easy to guess the Marvel characters, especially after the Day 2 interview, where Mike Jones said it was Marvels focus to tell stories and add things that made sense regarding the current MCU.

On the Capcom side I have no idea though?

Simplifying fighting games to encourage casual players to stick with them has never fucking worked. Not once. It's infuriating that developers still try to trot out that line for it, too. I can't tell if they're dumb enough to believe it or just trying to work the PR angle.

Ultras were supposed to be a comeback mechanic to keep players in the game in SF4, but it's more likely that a pro will make better use of it, while a scrub will just whiff and waste it on wake-up.

Any dunce can do some damage with X-Factor, but you're more likely to be shredded by Wong's XF1 Wolverine who knows how to kill all of your characters before they can do anything or a competent XF3 Vergil who can clean up when things go south.

I like that SF5's input buffer is a lot more lenient than in prior entries of the series, but quite a lot of the faces seen at Capcom Cup 2016 are the same as in 2015.

Even fucking Smash Bros has only 2 attack buttons, but Melee also happens to have the most consistent tournament results of any fighting game ever. Because the people who place well just know how to play the game better than the rest of the competition. And there were even plenty of posts here on GAF complaining that Smash 4 was too complicated when that game was released.

You can dumb down Infinite as much as you like. It won't change a thing. The dedicated players will be the ones who get results, and the people who can't handle their losses or figure out how to learn from them will throw in the towel and move on with their lives as soon as they're tired of taking a beating online. Nothing you can do can keep the latter group around; that's a mindset problem that can't be solved through game development.

First of all: How many games have even attempted this? Smash Brawl is it's own animal that actively crippled competitive players to keep it a party game, as intended. It's not even close to the same thing here, and even if it was, it remains the most successful Smash game ever in terms of units sold.

Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V were both developed to simplify the franchise and appeal to more casual gamers than before. Both were criticized for it in the same way people are concerned for Marvel Infinite, and both wound up being decent games. Of course, Street Fighter V didn't have a lot of success, but there are other reasons for that. Capcom botched it's release and rode a wave of negative publicity for a month ahead of time. At no point have I heard a coherent argument that Street Fighter V is less successful than it should be because it simplified things and chased fans away. If anything, the core of the game is more popular with the community than IV ever was.

And then there's Street Fighter IV, which was widely criticized by FGC members for "dumbing the series down". It has created more new FGC members than any fighting game since Street Fighter 2 basically invented the FGC. It had a bigger and more consistent online playerbase with ranging skill levels than ANY other major fighting game of it's era. It's success is basically the reason fighting games exist as a genre in 2016, beyond the niche. Even shit like Mortal Kombat has re-focused around the FGC in it's wake. So of course it worked, even if there were other reasons beyond the more accessible gameplay.

And now we have a situation where Marvel is the biggest license on earth. Much, much more popular than it was even when UMVC3 released. They have every ability to sell to millions and millions of gamers here, and if not having a complex engine helps even 2% more of them stick it out long enough to stay interested - that's worth it.

Of course, Street Fighter V didn't have a lot of success, but there are other reasons for that.

And that is the entire point.

You know what's going to move this game off shelves and get it to sell like gangbusters? The Marvel license, the character roster, some flashy graphics, and enough single-player modes and/or unlockables to satisfy whatever "content" metric is laid out by the button mashers with short attention spans who aren't really out to compete in the first place.

The finer points of the gameplay literally do not matter in this regard. That is why it is painful to hear that the core aspect of the series that set it apart from all other major fighting games is being nuked to appease an audience for whom it doesn't make a difference in the first place. I ultimately wouldn't give a shit how "dumbed down" the game might be otherwise. They could strip out all traditional Hadouken-style motions for all I care if that's what they think it'd take. But if it's not going to be a real team game anymore, then they sure as fuck better make up the difference in some regard so that it's still distinct. I'm not terribly hyped about King of Fighters Cross Tekken at the moment.

If Nemesis doesn't come back they could easily repurpose most of his abilities to become Groot I think.

No one can replace my baby boy Nemesis.

Just have them be rivals or something. I think it's safe to assume Groot is gonna be the Marvel's side big dude. Even if we do get X-Men characters in MvCI I don't see Sentinel returning.

So both Captain America and Iron Man have their MvC3 voice actors. Ryu and I think Morrigan do too.

This bodes well for TJ Rotolo reprising Frank. Don't let me down, Capcom.

Eh that could just be them willingly toning effects down so the game is easier to follow, something which I welcome.

i mean, how does changing it to that make the game easier to follow though?
both are pretty clear and without assists it's not like you have to track that + another thing at the same time or anything
the same feeling applies to his j.h btw, where it's that anemic looking boost spike instead of a single shot from the repulsor blast- it's functionally the same but aesthetically looks way worse.
same with his cr.m, where it straight up makes it harder to follow because there isn't a giant pink ring going 'hey this is actually how far this attack goes', but rather another spike that doesn't read as well
it's just something that i hope is touched on later, because there's no real justification for it- it's just worse as it is.

man, i wish the pc ver. of umvc3 was out already so i could actually get comparison shots, haha
