Halo 5 getting its biggest update soon, thoughts on post release support?

Wait the full fledged game is on PC? Or why are folks getting excited about all this?

You essentially have Halo 5 multiplayer on PC for free including forge. There is no campaign or matchmaking, but you can now search and join people hosting custom games etc. Will all be on dedicated servers (which have been struggling though). So if your goal is an 8v8 BTB match on Nokyard updated Avalanche map, 2v2 with CE pistols on CE maps, you can host or join custom games to find players.

I don't think those of you bringing up the feature set being missing from Halo 6 need to worry really. With multiplayer based games moving ever more to games as a service, and with the engine being built and entirely ported to PC, along with past comments made about the gameplay, what is and has been used in Halo 5 should lay the foundation for years to come. I can't see Halo having a jump like 2-3 or 3-Reach ever again.

This is true
But people are still clambering for a H3A, and its the most played game in MCC

I thought halo 4 was the most played actually.

Hopefully the aiming is finally fucking fixed, its been a god damn year. Each update to the settings they said they have improved it but nope.
Hopefully this is the one, a fucking year christ, they are so incompetent.

Server browser is cool

Aiming is the reason I stopped playing after an hour. We have the elite controller if you want to fuck with the speed or each axis why force it on everyone :-(

This all looks great. I'm not a fan of what 343 did with local multiplayer (some of my best memories with the franchise. Glad they reintroduced 4 player split screen after what they did in the beginning with with Halo CE Anniversary) but their postgame support has been great. I can rarely afford to buy games new so it's nice to see there's still some action in a game I purchased just over a month ago.

From a pure gameplay standpoint - Halo 5's multiplayer is so far ahead of the competition its not even funny. The aiming, shooting, and movement has such a high skill ceiling. Its made pretty much all modern online FPS's outside of CounterStrike irrelevant in my eyes.

This all has some drawback though because its a bit too competitive and demanding for many of my casual gaming friends - they abandoned the game months ago - they just couldn't compete. Regardless for competitive gamers, Halo 5 is a masterclass in the genre. Im loving all the support its still getting.

The 15th anniversary Halo one maps with the H1 pistol in Halo 5 was the best update yet. The game plays beautifully with the Halo 1 pistol on smaller arena maps. Completely changed the game. Battle Creek is still the best Halo map ever and it is amazing in H5.

imo not the aiming man, its far behind the competition there.
And yeah the game is usually no fun to casual players

Casuals are used to getting rewards for their kills, like kill streaks or an AI companion like a chopper. Halo doesnt give them that. Times have changed.

They just need to make the aiming like it was in the beta! All those options given weren't needed and barely helped the aiming, I dont know why they dont get it.

So much this. The beta aiming was fucking god tier stuff. I have never played anything like it before. What the fuck was they thinking??

To answer the OP, the post launch support has been nothing short of great.

But halo 6 needs

Region locking from DAY ONE!!! No excuses
A real BTB with real BTB maps
Firefight like reaches. They could even have special reqs for turrets, defences like gears horde has etc...
More modes, assault, one flag etc..
Custom game browser.

And aiming like the halo 5 beta had ffs

Yeah, hopefully this new option helps the aiming and makes it like the beta. But if it does I feel like there's tooooo much options now lol, just make it the simple 1-10 as it was in every other halo, no one complained.

And solo queue.
But alot of games have that problem you get matchmaked against full teams as a solo player.

Also I can go look at my beta gameplay, or any other gameplay and literally see how smoother the aiming is then the release. Its ridiculous.

Nah, we definitely still need the options to fine tune the aiming. Let's not go backwards.

Oh my.

Oh my indeed.

And armor that can be earned outside of the REQ packs bullshit?? Nice!

This is looking huge.

The custom game browser is seriously happening... I can't freaking believe it. I saw Frank confirm it and 343 say it was being worked on, but I still could not believe.

HELL YES!

Honestly Im so far behind on REQs this shit isn't even exciting. I'm not about to spend money on buying a bunch of packs either

I’m glad to see 343 continuing to support their game, but most of this should have been there at launch. However, there isn’t much to say about that. It’s in the past and we should move on. Forge has been absolutely outstanding. However, that’s where it pretty much ends. A lot of the post-launch maps are just terrible (Overgrowth, Molten, and Riptide for example). BTB was pretty much ignored. It came after launch without any dev maps. They did finally add more maps for it, however not once did we ever get a dev btb map and there are serious fps issues on them. Almost all the other post launch content has been things that have been in past Halo games since day one. This is a decent video that sums up my view on it. I don’t agree with all of his points, but he does bring up valid criticism. I mean I don’t hate this game, I put around 14 days or so before I finally stopped playing it. The gameplay is damn good, but the management of it has been subpar, however that’s a whole different discussion.

It's not like it was ignored without reason, they put that time and money into developing and supporting Warzone. While myself and other fans would have loved to see better BTB support, Warzone took off as a popular mode and was a crutch to the monetization of the Halo 5, making it a priority. Sadly it was a casualty of a change of vision from within the studio, but at the very least we got BTB Forge support. The only way I could see better BTB support would be for 343i to drop HCS or lessen support of it (which won't happen) and use those funds alongside the revenue gained from REQ packs that was used to help support it and outsource the job to another studio (like Certain Affinity). Hopefully that won't happen for Halo 6 and 343i can instead use all the wonderful feedback they got from 5 and have a more efficient and responsive development cycle, meaning that modes like Breakout won't be prioritized and that time/effort/money can be put towards BTB.

ske7ch, where are thou

Sorry, I'm here, late but here! It's been a little hectic but exciting! Feels good, man. Days/weeks like this are why I really love the Halo community and makes the more difficult spells worth it. We all needed something positive to rally around and I'm going to savor it while it lasts. The team has worked really hard so it's great to see a lot of positive vibes coming in and look forward to everyone jumping in on 12/8. We haven't even really revealed Forge yet (tomorrow!), which IMO, is the biggest part of this update in terms of the potential it brings to the game for everyone.
