5. The lack of wires is surprisingly awesome. I never really thought about how annoying they can be. I was walking around my apartment tidying up, cleaning dishes, laying down on the couch, and I never had a wire getting caught on something. I read some impressions of a person saying these are amazing at the gym because there are no wires getting caught on things. It's been a while since I worked out (sigh) but I do remember that being a huge annoyance with my phone and wired earbuds. These would be great in that situation.

I'm really looking forward to this life. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a black-and-white infomercial clip.

I don't have Airpods, but I noticed wearing my Bluetooth headphones that I moved as if expecting a wire to be there. IOW I've gotten so accustomed to wire that it changes how I do things when I put headphones on. It's the sort of thing you don't notice until you try wireless I think.

We kind of take it for granted that we have changed or behaviour because we assume there isn't any other way. I regularly do dishes with headphones and my cord always gets caught on a drawer handle. I changed and threaded my headphones under my shirt.

Regarding the comment about in-ear, I assume he means in-canal style sealed ones

Now my right AirPod won't hold a charge. Last time I called AppleCare about a replacement they just told me to buy a new pair when it's in stock. When I told them how ridiculous that was that I had to buy a new pair to replace a broken product they just shrugged it off.

Guess I have to call the specialist AppleCare customer service AGAIN for something that should have just been handled at the Apple Store the first time. (Waited hours for an answer in store WITH a genius appointment. They couldn't figure out what to do.)

Why is this kind of stuff so hard for them? Last month they refused to replace a pair of defective beats studios, after hours in the store and getting the same run around from AppleCare, I called executive support. they realized the store sold me a demo unit, they replaced it (finally) and told me they had to fire the person who sold it to me as they stole the normal pair and swapped it for the demos under everyone's nose. When I asked that supervisor why that Apple Store is never on their game, she literally told me to visit a different location from now on. That's insanely inconvenient and not the right way to do business.

They have no clue what's going on in their retail stores and that's the public face of Apple just treating everyone like crap and screwing people over. Meanwhile other people stroll right in and get a replacement with no question. Complete inconsistent nonsense. Better customer service at WalMart, Best Buy, etc. really pretty sad.

Weren't you posting a lot about wanting a 3rd AirPod just to juggle them around? (how the hell would that even work lol) Are you sure your right AirPod is really not holding its charge? Sweet irony if it is though.

Hahaha. You had a bad experience, so every store and the company suck.

On the flip side every time I have spoken to AppleCare or gone in for the Genius Bar or buying something, I have dealt with the nicest people and my expectations have been blown away.

Don't be so single minded.

What are the best alternatives instead of getting the airpods? Are there similar products out there? Willing to try going wireless but I dont think I am ready to spend the amount of cash apple airpods.

There are a few on the market, but apples are the cheapest. Earin, Here One by Doppler, Samsung IconX, among a few others. All around $200. The Samsung only works on Android.

The Wirecutter has this list for ya but the budget pick is only $10 cheaper and not as integrated with iOS as the airpods.

I'd say just get regular bluetooth headphones if there are budget issues and if the wire between the buds are a real issue then stick with them until next gen stuff is cheaper and more polished.

I wonder which store has the better insurance policy. Is AppleCare better than Best Buy extra warranty? I know with my DS4 controller at Best Buy I could replace it and then just pay $8 to have the option to do it again if anything happened to it.

Wow.

I must admit I am extremely surprised Apple's airpods seem like one of the cheapest options out there!

Thanks for the heads up guys.

I just got a set of Erato Muse 5s, although I paid substantially less for them because I grabbed them on Indiegogo. I expected them to be solid, but they're actually an outstanding product. They lock into your ears so they don't fall out. Extremely well-made, decent sound, super comfortable when you zero in on the right fit, and work exactly as they should. I'd recommend them even at the MSRP.

I've been following truly wireless earphones for a while now, since the aforementioned were announced and I was very surprised at the price of the Airpods. I gave up the ghost a couple of months back and just got a pair of Sony's with a neck wire. Decent quality buds for less than €100. Happy enough with them for now.

I finally caved and decided to try and buy these whenever they show up in stock anywhere, I've got like 3 fucked up Verizon orders because 2 of them threw off my credit card fraud alerts, so I have like 3 charges stuck in limbo on my card LMAO

now they are in stock at best buy and I think my order went through. phew I hope I don't somehow end up with 4 pairs of airpods

These are in stock at best buy.com

Thank you! Got in an order for Sunday delivery.

Unfortunately only one per customer, so these will be going to my wife. Hopefully they became a bit more readily available soon!

Got a small scare today, as my left AirPod wouldn't work and the popup image on iPhone (when you open the case nearby) was showing a red exclamation mark on it.

Luckily a couple of trips to the charging case fixed it.

I really enjoy using these headphones, I wouldn't think I would like them. Recommend them as long as they fit your ear, you don't lose things easily and have the cash to spare.

they are absolutely terrific.

They sync amazingly well and are super responsive. Sound fine.

I have much better headphones for plane listening or serious listening.

But for walking my dog, or talking to my parents while doing stuff in the kitchen, or working out (basically everything my earbuds did)? Airpods are perfect.

I absolutely love these. They've changed the way I listen to music. I can leave my phone charging in my room and walk around the house with no problems. I love that my music automatically stops when I take them out and there automatically paired when I put them in my ear. This is the most apple product we've gotten in a long time. They literally just work. It's fantastic.

Could they potentially figure out another way to fit in the conventional in-line controls into these things? Like touch-sensitive buttons on the side or something?

Because damn I like the look of these but i'm sure as hell not going to revert to not having a remote for my music/podcasts. I can't do without.

I ordered mine from AT&T on the 23rd, and since Christmas was on a Sunday and Christmas was observed on the Monday, I got them on the 27th, which was still fast all things considered. AT&T has always been super fast with their phones, glad this was no different. The AirPods have been wonderful. There are some glitches, like pausing randomly or cutting out here and there for split seconds, but otherwise they've been great. No wires feels like freedom.

Oh god they're still at six weeks here and not in stock locally at all, his thread hurts me to read.

A few improvements that I can think of would be allowing you to set different controls for each ear, single and multi tap gestures and sliding up and down the stem to adjust the volume.

Well, they could add more haptic gestures (?) like single tap, triple tap etc. I have no idea why they don't offer the option atleast.
I don't see them using slide touch gestures or buttons tho. These things are tiny and fully packed already and touch might be too prone for accidental input (i.e. when you just want to adjust them in your ear). Haptic stuff needs a tiny bit of impact to get triggered, I think it is a good solution.

What I'd use is basically a virtualisation of the current play controls:
Right single tap = next track
Left single tap = previous track
Right double tap = vol up
Left double tap = vol down
Remove Airpod = pause

I hope it comes with iOS 11 or 10.3 (I heard they can push updates for the AirPods via iOS update. Not sure if that's true).

Btw, as for the case battery issue, I stopped caring and just built a charging station for phone + AirPods (and a potential watch at some point :p). I just hook up the case every other day while I'm sleeping.

Problem with single taps is that they are extremely easy to occur by accident. It's why the single implemented control is a double tap.

I managed to get one by randomly checking availability in my local Apple Store. They are so much better than the terrible and disappointing PUGZ. No more weird Bluetooth interference, no more awkward voice feedback, the case is sleek and putting them in it is easy.
The only regrets are that you cannot interact with them without touching your phone or using Siri (and no "Hey Siri" wtf) and no noise-cancellation.

I dunno. It's kinda hard to tell without it being available for testing :p
I personally find that I need to apply quite a bit of impact for it to recognize the taps, I don't think I would accidently trigger a single tap command tbh. Anyway, hope they open it up a bit.

These are great ... but if I'm in an area with a lot of Bluetooth devices like standing on a packed train platform then the sound can sometimes cut out unfortunately.

I've found that my AirPods will randomly lose connection sometimes, mainly when I'm only using one and then decide to put both in. More than half the time, they'll just completely lose connection to my device. Then, probably 15-20 seconds later, they'll finally reconnect. It's pretty annoying though.

At first I thought it might just be where I'm using it with my Android phone (S7 Edge), but then it did the same thing when I connected them to my Macbook Air. Any thoughts?

Edit: Also, it doesn't pause my music when I take one out of my ear.
