they also exist any and all games and I think even movies etc.

The best thing about them is the often bizarre cover choices

I'm just about to give up on Super Monkey Ball on Expert. I think I got to the twelfth level and needed to lie down to calm my nerves lol. I can't imagine what kind of mental zen you need to achieve to reach level 50.

If you got past Expert Level 7, you can beat Expert. That's the hardest one.

A lot of them are what I like to call "Just Go" levels. They might look like you need to be slow and careful, but a lot of the time it's actually easier to go all out and then learn to bounce just right.

I can't stand the shape and size of Japanese games, and it blew my mind when I grabbed Naruto Ninja Taisen 4 a few months ago. It destroys the consistency of what I had on my shelf so I'm not a fan.

I love those little boxes. I've always thought that Nintendo made a big mistake putting Gamecube games in bigger cases outside of Japan. In-store, Gamecube games just looked like PS2 games. Xbox games were in that Matrix-ish green to stand out. Those little boxes for the Gamecube would've drawn attention, and could've been used to help promote a "smaller, more portable" identity for the Gamecube.

I love them too, Kawaii as fuck, super unique and look fantastic.

But they would need to have a sleeve for the art added in the west, the cardboard is far too fragile for westerners, they would all look like torn up newspaper by now.

Just like my old boxes Super Nintendo games.
It would be a lot worse. Many people didn't store their cart games in the box. You can put a cart on a shelf fine by itself, they even have top labels for this purpose in NES/SNES cases.

But discs basically require you to use the box/case to store the game. They'd be shredded by use. My old boxes are in much better condition than my old CD/DVD games, because the cases were actually used constantly.

arrrrrrrghhhhh! i just went to Wendy's to pick up a late night meal and decided to get a large coke. i bring it home and spill it right on top of my ikaruga game.

artwork got soda on the corners. .................. just finished drying it out. rats!!!! time to hunt for some artwork.

I'm so happy I found this thread! The GameCube was my first console I didn't share between my siblings. I sold all of my games from back then but always held on to my nintendo ones. Unfortunately someone broke in to my storage unit a few weeks ago and stole my purple cube that my Dad bought me for Christmas right when they came out:( but luckily I still have all the games.

There's a frothing joke to be made here but I know it must hurt so I won't stick the boot in.

Is it the ntsc version or the pal one? Try chilloutgames in the UK as they occasionally get us versions in and are reliable in my experience.

This breaks my heart :( One of the few games I still need to pick up on my Gamecube.

That sucks but hey now you can flip it and get the DC version instead

How can you hate on Japanese Gamecube packaging? The cardboard sleeve isn't ideal for collecting, but the packaging itself is just gorgeous. Like candy. And most manuals (check out Pikmin) are works of art. Cover art is superior across the board, too.

Miles beyond the PAL or NTSC packaging.

PAL has the best art sometimes. Resident Evil 4 for example, Japan got the classless US 'generic action game' box while PAL got the beautiful minimalist one. But generally Japan wins.

Here's my Japanese collection:

They are so classy

Agreed. D.Lo certainly has a point too when he says that PAL does have some nice art indeed sometimes.

But I love my modest set of Japanese GameCube games.

Noooo. Not ikaruga :-/

That game is hypnotic. It was my first true bullet hell game. Any reason to grab the GCN verision if I have it on DC?

Japan always has ultra shitty Resident Evil covers on all platforms for some reason. REmake being the exception.

These are spam/scam books. They have them for many systems. Unedited plagarised wikipedia and ign articles etc in e-book form, which is printed on demand if someone buys a physical copy.
Sweet. Strange. But sweet.

I got th N64 Anthology and would love something similar. Thanks for heads up.

I got a sealed beach spikers today. My old copy is still playable but the box art and manual are in poor condition.

Trying to complete my collection. I need a second copy of eternal darkness and then there are a few games with on disc revisions that I want to get. Like metroid prime.

I'm late to the discussion but the official 1019 memory cards are pretty terrible and shouldn't be used. They get corrupted after a while like a cheap third party card.

Some speculate that the Wii and Connect 24 (standby mode) is to blame but it's not that as I never used Connect 24 and almost always played Gamecube games on my Gamecube (I have component cables) but mine got corrupted all the same (and it's definitely genuine, bought when they first got released).

Caveat emptor, stick to the 251s and 59s!

reading this thread I realized that my gamecube is still at my exgirlfriend. she was so into star fox adventures but could not beat the final boss. She let my try once and I defeated him first try lol.

If I were planning on selling a few GC games, would I mention it here or just the Buy/Sell/Trade thread only?

counter question: why wouldn't you mention it in the thread where people care specifically about GameCube games :D

To be precise it was something like this
900483b.jpg

Edit: bought the 59, 251 and 1019 cards at each of their respective launches. They all had that pakaging.

I found my memory card the other week after years of not being able to find it and I was reminded that I own a 3rd party card which was more then 59 blocks... I can't imagine how annoying the small memory cards are if that was all I had.

But I also do not remember the 1019 size card in the uk, was it even a thing for here? no idea.

Then....I have PAL Tales of Symphonia (LIKE NEW) and PAL Mario Party 6 (LIKE NEW), boxed with the GC Microphone in its original packaging. I live in the UK, prices and images available on request, so shoot me a PM anyone who is interested.

The wii hardware itself is the cause of corruption as far as I know. Never heard of widespread issues with the cards on gamecube like the widespread corruption after using them on a wii. There are issues with certain games on original hardware though. http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/memorycard1019.jsp

Its odd that 1019 cards have issues with the Wii. The card also has issues with certain GC game like Persona7 already posted. I had a 251 card in a Wii for years with no issues. 1019 cards must be doing something slightly different. So possibly a fault in the design of the card or in the Wii is the cause. It seems to have never been solved what the actually cause is though. Maybe in the future someone will design a card that can take a micro SD or SD card and actually hold save data.

so gamecube memory cards are mostly fake now?
The picture I linked shows the real ones. Full plastic packaging, triangular shaped base so it can be stood upright, and made of one big piece that can be pulled apart. If buying loose you would have to open it to see whether or not it's fake.
The packaging of the fake ones was obvious to me when I started paying attention to the memory card discussion in this thread.
The new memory cards on ebay and amazon are fake.

Only the US has horrible blister packaging for everything.

I know.
From his previous posts I knew he was in the states which was why I was talking about the North American packaging.
Then again he could always important from another region, your pictures help with that. :)

As much as this is obviously baloney backed by insufficient Google use, it doesn't make ANY sense for the region to matter, my present understanding is:
  • Nintendo only released 1019 cards in North America (it explains why they didn't issue an official game compatibility list for other regions).
  • Only 1019 cards are affected.
  • Only North American region Wii consoles are affected.

I have used the 1019 blocks memory card for about 8 years now (on Gamecube exclusively though) and never had any problems with it; it is even faster than the older memory card when saving/loading, which was a nice surprise. However, it was not released in Europe (perhaps because of a lowe attach rate?) and has incompatibility issues with certain older titles released before this memory card. The list is only a few (3rd party) titles long:
-Backyard Football
-Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
-Darkened Skye
-WTA Tour Tennis
-Disney Sports: Skate Boarding
-Disney Sports: Soccer

Games with issues regardless of memory card size:
-NHL Hitz 20-03
-Mary-Kate and Ashley Sweet 16

See https://www.nintendo.com/consumer/memorycard1019.jsp for more info.

Regarding issues on the wii; it may be fried by a wii which is placed vertically directly affecting heat distribution/flow. The memory cards (and other things inserted on the gamecube compatibility ports) get slightly hotter and the 1019 memory card is probably more susceptible to heat than its 251/59 sized counterpart.
On Gamecube they shouldn't give any problems as far as I know.

They weren't released in the UK. I imported mine from the US.

Yeah many say that but I don't think the Wii hardware is the cause, that's just baseless conjecture that has become Internet wisdom. Mine started showing corruption errors while in a Gamecube. Luckily I was able to copy across most of my saves after a few tries before it became completely unusable and had to be formatted. There's speculation about Wii Connect24 and the heat from the Wii but why would that cause data corruption and why wouldn't it affect other size memory cards? These cards aren't breaking, you get the typical warning signs of it happening same as you would an SD card on a computer.

My own baseless conjecture: They're just flawed on the hardware level of the 1019 (low quality) or certain games write to a part of the memory that they shouldn't as they were only ever tested with 59s and 251s (the 1019 came out very late).

Well I'm not sure if a connection has been found between this particular issue, and corrupt individual files.

There's little question the real truth is something Nintendo doesn't think we should know, otherwise they'd have publicly acknowledged it ten years ago. And it has to sufficiently explain why 1019s are affected, but not 2043s.

This is true. Also there's videos of every single level online if you get stuck. The difficulty doesn't strictly go in order, there are some easier ones towards the end (along with some hard ones) and some hard ones towards the beginning (along with some easier ones).

I also recommend doing SMB2 Expert before SMB1 expert, because I think #2 is far easier. I've done 100% of SMB2 (including
Master & Master Extra
) and now all I need to do in SMB is
Master 3 and a few easier Master ones. I'm done with Master 9
.

my favorite thing with the Gcn, is the connection with a gba (Gba adapter), you get extra features in some games, and thats cool.

Forgot i had these, found them in a drawer along with my famicom ones. Some cool gamecube merchandise. The cibe & the pad have built in lcd clocks the console one been under the lid which you can open with the eject button, the batteries are long dead though. The games are actually erasers, comes in a tiny replica case with a rubber disk, the detail on the boxes is pretty much 100% accurate.
What the hell, that's awesome!

Well over priced!

Looks like we all have a similar taste and also what to look out for.

I showed more of the Wario Ware one here The disc is seriously awesome!

Edit: I forgot to mention, my local CEX has Skies of Arcadia in stock....for £58!

Has anyone's wavebird controller's analog stick gotten grimey and sticky? I remember all mine being in good shape, now they're discolored and have a sticky feel to them when I take them out... Not sure if it's something with the rubber or what is going on.

Can't say mine have done this. You could try and clean it with some isopropyl alcohol maybe that will clean up the dirt.

Used gamecubes are creeping up towards MSRP. Crazy, especially considering how ubiquitous Wii's are, which play GC games flawlessly.

yeah no yellow but the analogue got sticky with age. i took time to clean it but the next year it felt sticky. like rubber decomposing... i don't know what it is, but it's just on my white wavebird.
