It's funny because, with all this time, RETRO should have a very near finished game by now... but yet I would not be surprised if we didn't see a title from them until late 2017.

You'll get your copy of DK: TF for 3DS and love it! /sarcasm

Yes...yes I do when compared to what we are seeing on PS4/XB1 (e.g. Zelda: Breath of the Wild vs Horizon Zero on PS4).

Instead we get this...

And FYI - I am a MASSIVE Nintendo fan. I'm just getting sick and tired of Nintendo screwing us Nintendo fans over and over again by releasing under-powered hardware generation after generation.

What a joke of a post...

They'll probably go with 3ds size boxes though, right? Saves them money, and since there's no disc a regular box is overkill.
Unless they think public's perception of console games is tied to box size, which is a possibility I guess.
This is the big question. I think it could go either way.

Those cases look to be a variant of those faked by Vook on EBGames "leak".

Also, could you not quote those picture a hundred times, especially if they're fake?

they won't - and it's probably so that they can start with a clean slate for switch and remove confusion from consumers who might accidentally shop for 3ds and pick up a switch game or vice versa.

I will wait and see which game is better, and how the graphic fidelity has something to do with it.

Well, hypothetically, we could have played (a Zelda like) BotW back in 2011 (or earlier) if we didn't get weak hardware from Nintendo. Also, are you not at all interested in playing BotW with the same gameplay we've seen, as well as the graphic fidelity of Horizon (keeping the same art style, of course)?

I'm also a huge Nintendo fan, but I can't help but imagine what kind of games we could have had if Nintendo launched consoles with better hardware. We could have had Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros for Wii U.... back in 2008!

Just because LKD hasn't leaked Princess Peach Beach Splash yet doesn't mean it's not happening.

Oh, it could be happening alright. But showing at the event? I know Nintendo wants to sell Switch to millions but they'll do it in more "SFW" way. It's going to be a boob-free event for sure.

I was of course joking with that crossover idea, but I'm confident Senran Kagura will show up on the Switch.

As a 40 yo fanboy with a very busy life I find the Switch the ultimate machine. I have a very capable PC with modern i5 and 1060 that just sits here because of life.

I think the concept is safe. Not even Nintendo can mess this up.

The vita showed me that there really are not differences between handheld and console games... As long as you have a sleep button to push at the right time.

Persona, oblivion, all these games can be split in portable suited chunks.

Because of the versatility of the concept it seems to enhance every single game I can think of.
Rocket league? Valkiria Chronicles? Life is strange? On bed while the gf is watching some crap on Netflix?
Yes please.

If consoles are preferred over the PC because comfy couch... I have good news... The Switch is compatible with comfy beds... And compatible with the partner watching something on the telly.

It'll appear in a sizzle reel of third party games. Even Sony had Senran Kagura in a PlayStation upcoming games sizzle reel at E3 a couple of years ago.

But there's little chance people get confused like the DS/3DS situation. Different name, different color (I guess, no reason to use white for Switch).
Regular boxes seem like a waste of plastic and space to me. I'm sure there are savings to be made there and they'll go for that. But yeah, handheld cases for the price may not play in their favor
I'm curious to see how they'll handle it. Maybe Vita size boxes are a good compromise, even though iirc people thought they were already too big for the tiny card. I liked them personally.

I think he's definitely in the audience. No way Nintendo lets someone like Takaki to take stage at a reveal event. Millions will watch the event for heavens sake.

Ah right, I thought you meant there wouldn't be any third party games shown at the event, I mentioned his invite to suggest that they would be showing games from Marvelous there.

Yeah, the on-stage stuff will probably be games covering major genres, DQXI for instance for RPG,etc.

You could make Vita (and 3DS) cases much smaller, but the artwork needs to stand out on store shelves too. Going too small has its downsides.

This use case speaks A LOT to me.

Yeah, that's true.
Man, in any case, these boxes will feel empty since we don't get manuals anymore, and now the tiny game card.
I haven't bought a 3DS retail game in years, do they still make manuals for those nowadays? I don't think 3DS had the digital manual thing

When I got rid of the Wii U I was shocked of how much junk the console needed. Chargers, stands, sensor bars, classic controllers, Wii controllers ... The Switch will hopefully be the opposite.
The smaller the better.
I hope that the European version comes with power adapter though :p

No we couldn't. We would get a Skyward Sword HD, it wasn't Wii U hardware that made BoTW possible, but the desire to make an experience more similar to the first Zelda, and that just happened because of all the games that came before it.

The same can be said about Mario Kart 8.

Sure having the best gameplay and the best graphics are ideal, but no console maker provide it, even PS4 is below PC and that's how it is.

3DS games do have digital manuals. They've not had paper manuals for a long time, if ever.

vita would pose a similar problem (the system is still selling in japan), and maybe even a worse one since the vita performed super poorly in the rest of the world. they could always go with psp cases though. not a lot of baggage there.

Wow, I even received an email from EBGames telling me about the Switch Presentation.

Hell, they are gonna broadcast it on their website.

It definitely will come with a power adapter; how else would you plug the dock in the wall? :p

And yeah, the Wii U was such a mish-mash of ideas that no wonder people were confused. You had all the Wii accessories on top of all the new Wii U ones; the Switch being a reset means you just have Switch accessories and that's it.

They usually have some sort of insert with ad or bonus thing. I dont know about other parts of the world, but in Japan all the games have an electronic manual accessable from the game soft. One of the inserts is a paper which translates to something like: Paper Manuals have become E-Manuals, how to view your e-manual. Kind of a waste of paper, but whatever.

eh. switch is a touchscreen. just make a pixel perfect emulator and give me the two screens on the switch screen.

of course I don't see it happening. but nintendo could do it.
They could but that just seems kind of awkward. I mean, you'd need to hold it sideways then, no? Otherwise the image would be squished

So how far out are we expecting Nintendo to show their lineup?

I'm guessing 100% of the first 6 months, 50% of the rest of the releases in 2017 after the first 6 months and 10% of titles releasing in 2018 from their first party output anyway.

I'm expecting details on only launch titles and nothing else. If we get a look at anything that is post launch for Switch I'll be pleasantly surprised.

The last consoles I bought were GBA, NGC, DS, Wii and 3DS. I feel the same as you do.

Then buy a PS4 Pro and be happy, guys. Me ? I'll still enjoy the hell out of Breath of the Wild AND Horizon, AND Splatoon, AND Mass Effect: Andromeda AND Mario Kart 8+ AND Forza Horizon 3. Stop believe you have "barriers" that can''t allow you to have fun with multiple systems, no matter how powerful they are.

Oh and Nintendo should totally go with the title "Mario Kart 8+" for the NS version (because 8+ always makes me think of Moss at the 8+ Club in The IT Crowd) :

People tend to forget that Box Arts have to make room for all sorts of USK/ESRB ratings.
If you go too small, the whole box will be consumed by them - especially in Europe.

If you pay my PS4 i will gladly afford both. I will even pay the games myself.
