Gravity Rush 2 Review Thread

I never finished Gravity Rush on the Vita. Is the PS4 Remaster worth getting if I already own the Vita version?

(feel free to ignore/disregard this post)

I was away because of work and just got caught up to the thread, but I see many people commented on my earlier post on how parts of the game made me feel (and some are upset that I haven't replied yet). I didn't want to derail or anything, instead I just shared how it made me feel. I appreciate the candid posts and do know that I read them all and take them into consideration, I just can't reply to them all with a huge wall of text (I've been lambasted for those) nor do I want to derail the thread, since it can be a sensitive issue for some and my participation can be irritating to others who wants to talk about other stuff. Perhaps later on we can just do a thread about the specific topic instead. :)

Anyway, congrats to the game and its developers. A lot of excellent reviews still.

I mean, you're entirely right - but I can't help but feel like a score that much lower than the average is trying less to be an actual review and more to be some kind of clickbait.

Maybe, maybe not. You're always going to get some people whose opinions greatly diverge from the norm, heck we have a massive thread on gaf dedicated to that, it doesn't mean we should be silencing those opinions on the assumption that they're only doing it for clicks and it isn't their actual opinion.

It's definitely a better experience. as it looks better and has 60 fps. But if you still have the Vita version and you're enjoying that well enough, that should suffice.

I was going to quote you as I had saw it once I woke up, but like you, I'm like Eh... let me not derail the thread as well. As you suggested, you could always make a future topic on it, or bring it up in the OT for the game. As for myself, I'll briefly say that I saw some of the reviews point that like the first game, there was little to none of what you're inferring, barring maybe one sidequest that I need to see for myself. But of course, people see the aesthetic, and immediately assume it'll be all about that. Oh well. In general, I want to play through the whole thing before I really bother to comment further.

Here's a link to the screenshots. I went for a zip on Drive as I couldn't order them easily on Imgur (not used to uploading many images there, if someone wants to shed some light i'd be happy to get and album done). They are taken from the Vita version, and have all the comic book parts and important dialogue (except for the first 2-3 chapters). There's also a folder for DLC (just the first pic and the "epilogue") and one for the Travellers.

Cheers! You are a true scholar!

edit: reading Singlor's encounters sequentially is so much better lol

Reviewer here. Can't think of much to add at the moment, but I will say that I can understand why the majority of reviews at present are falling within the 8/10 region (and higher); Gravity Rush 2 definitely feels like a game tailored more to those who've played the original rather than an attempt to attract newcomers more so. As someone who scored the game outside of the general consensus (though not by much), having read through several other reviews, no doubt the game's art-style and aesthetic is a conclusive win all-round. Currently messing about with some footage I captured during my playthrough - never really done anything with the stuff I record in the past, so why not. Here's a brief GIF to start off with. Playing about and experimenting with gravity is a time-waster but a great time-waster at that.

DigitalFoundry has a video up examining the performance of the PS4 and PS4 Pro version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=174aNCB5XiA

They have a lot of praise for the game, as it has been optimized well for both PS4 and PS4 Pro, and there's a clear improvement compared to the demo in terms of framerate. It appears very stable now at 30fps on both systems.

Yea that seems to be the consensus that is forming.

Hell yeah! Looking forward to playing this. Hopefully it doesn't follow suite with last year's games all underperforming in terms of sales.

Any indication so far whether the ending of the game leaves room for a possible continuation?

I've seen one review that specifically outlines that the ending is extremely clear cut, and wraps up all loose threads from both games, "As if they were told there would be no more games in the series" if I remember right.

He's been working on Gravity Rush for years now, I wouldn't be surprised if Toyama wants to work on something else now. The big question now is will it be lighter far like Gravity Rush or survival/horror like Silent Hill & Siren or something completely different.

Can't watch at the moment but is there anything about supersampling on the Pro for 1080p TVs?

Well whatever it is, guess I gotta keep my eye on it lol

This has been a recent trend. It's actually smart considering you get the entire weekend to play it if you buy it on release.

So tempted to buy this after reading these reviews. I wonder how much you will miss if you haven't finished GR1. Plus that week is already crowded with Yakuza 0 and KH 2.8, my wallet is going to get hammered lol.

These guys really deserve the positive feedback. The game looks great and after The Last Guardian, Sony first party really needed a win (imo)
What on earth? Sony first party has been on a non-stop win for a while now, and I totally include TLG in that.

I played about half the game on vita, have the sequal preordered. I dont think i have time to finish the first game since im playing thru ff15 right now. Would reading a wiki on the plot of the first one be sufficient to get caught up?

And that's for the best. I love Kat, but the man needs to work other stuff.

That's also a question that's been on my mind so I gathered some information on that. Be warned that even though I don't know the details about the ending yet either (and I'd like to keep it that way), I consider the following answer to be a spoiler nonetheless.
From what I could gather from various reviews, and some questions I asked to someone who finished the game, it appears to wrap up Kat's story in a bittersweet way. So it doesn't appear to be intended for a continuation. It's what I had expected given earlier comments from the devs that this game would conclude Kat's story, although I think I'm not the only one who doesn't want her story to end already.

Some of the reviews I've read already revealed a bit too much about the ending, and I probably would have been better off not reading those. I'd really like to know how it all ends, but I'll probably be avoiding more spoilers until I get to play the game. I might end up rushing through the main storyline in my first playthrough though.

At E3 they mentioned that before any of the games were released they came up with a story for Kat, and that story ended up being split in two. GR would tell the first part and GR2 would be the conclusion. It doesn't necessarily mean that they won't make another game or that Kat can't be the star, but it seems like they at least wanted to be able to tell a story that could be wrapped up neatly in two games.

With that said, Toyama has mentioned that GR was actually the first game that he ever wanted to make. So, I don't think he'll ever really move completely away from it. But he's made no secret about the fact that he wants to make a new horror game. I'd expect him to re-explore that genre next. I'm excited about that as he has perhaps the most unique take on horror in gaming given that he created Silent Hill and Siren.

Just in case anyone doesn't want to see my direct response, but I'm not giving any actual details:
.....Not quite......

After about 10 minutes of searching I couldn't find exactly which review I got that from, but I do remember seeing something to that effect, though maybe it's context was different.

I'll do some searching, but part of me is
definitely glad that that this may not be the last we see of Gravity Rush.

Let me be clear: I'm not trying to say that you're quoting the review wrong, I'm saying that that's my reply to their comment if you got their statement correct.

Judging from the quote I believe you're referring to the Ars Technica review. It's one of the most spoiler-heavy reviews out there at the moment in terms of the game's ending. That said, I don't think
they say it's "extremely clear cut"
.

Thanks for the assistance, you're right.

To clear up any confusion, their take on the ending is:

"Gravity Rush 2 closes the book so tightly on its own fiction, it's as if someone told the developers there would be no more sequels. That makes for a satisfying, if bittersweet—not to mention bonkers—closing to the series' proper console debut."

and

"The ending leaves no plot hole, or story beat, unexplored."

This I agree with

This I don't know that I'd agree with

If he's making a horror game again I am so on board for this. If he's doing it with PS VR, I am on board x 10, but with medicine to take care of the heart condition I'll acquire afterwards. The original Silent Hill is still one of the greatest horror experiences I've ever had in a game, and the work he did on Siren was brilliant. I still feel really bad about Siren: Blood Curse. It came at a bad time in the PS3's life, when people still weren't really big on digital only games, but it's one of the absolute best horror games of the last console generation. Let him get back to horror, my imminent heart attack is worth it.

I wish I could get into this game because of the art style and the music but I played the demo and the controls were just off to me. Floating and falling from platform to platform never really lined up correctly. I guess it takes practice.

Yeah, I think it is a system you have to play around with. It took me a bit to get the hang of it in the remaster but once I got to that point, it was smooth sailing from there.

Someone actually gave the game a 30? The ol' 3 out of 10? I can't WAIT to read this review. Those kind of scores always indicate a buggy and broken shitfest. At least they used to!

First impression - He was late for the review deadline.

Second impression - He's monumentally fucking dense and should find another hobby.

Yes this is a thing you have to practice around with

Does anybody know if completing the demo unlocks anything in the final game? I'm doing my best to avoid playing the demo so that I go into the game completely new but I would play through the demo if it was unlocking something.
