Still can't believe how brilliant this trailer was, as lately honestly it's been feeling like Nintendo forgot how to make exciting trailers.

WII U version is releasing on the Same date

This trailer was the best thing they could've shown, like holy fuck is it good.

So many things are pushing me away from buying the switch day one but this drags me in more than anything.

I'm probably just going to get the Wii U version unless it runs terribly. I can't see myself getting a switch at launch

mostly looks great, but cant help but worry about framerate, and some of the bland looking textures that were shown again. Hype tho.

Really looks like a huge downgrade from even teh last tiem it was shown. I mean, I love it and it looks fucking great, but it makes me wonder if switch is actually the inferior version. Or maybe Ive been playing too much PC lately and dont remember what Wii U looks like.

As happy as I am that I don't have to buy a whole new console on day 1, this is a mistake nintendo, a fucking mistake.

Breath of the Wild was announced as a Wii U game, way before the Switch was even a thing. It would have been a disaster if they arbitrarily held that version back to push their new console.

This sounds awful. The need to be tryhard edgy attitude people like you have is a bigger thing holding back the "games as art" than anything this Zelda does

I don't think that attitude is wrong, I mean Twilight Princess already did what he was saying and carefully handled its themes well.

But this trailer. It's just classic Zelda Written all over it. Soft yet Adventurous and never without heart.

This is going to be one of the greatest games ever made my god.

All that anime melodrama looks extremely ill-suited for a game with a mute protagonist with virtually no emotional range. As if "adult" Link didn't look socially awkward enough already.
if he has to stay mute, I think a kid Link would work much better in such situations because you don't really expect a little kid to know how to react or what to say, so it's sort of okay if he just does the Link thing of blankly staring with his mouth hanging open.

Hmm, well shit, I don't like to play in subtitles but the difference in anguish between Japanese Zelda and English Zelda is pretty noticeable. Former actually sounds tormented, latter sounds like someone got her pumpkin cappuccino order wrong :\

Never in my life have I cried over a trailer... until now.

This thing is greater than life and made me (re)re-consider my Switch purchase after that shitty, embarrassing presentation.

God damn it Nintendo, why can't you just DO things right with your marketing team for once, this things sells itself.

I thought the voices were okay except for Zelda which was bad. cant wait to hear tingle.

optional motion control?

Well yeah, maybe if I hadn't heard the Japanese trailer first I wouldn't be as critical. You're right, Zelda definitely sounds the worst of the bunch.

And hey, some of us waggle with our left hand

Where's the male representation where dudes just need to cry into women's arms sometimes because jeeesh aww it's just so HARD

Is there no winning unless you can turn on an option to switch the genders of all characters so they do all the actions of each other.

I would wait for the actual game instead of writing it off.

The soundtrack for this trailer had the strongest Studio Ghibli vibes... just wow!

Yeah, seriously. Everything, from the monster design to the inhabitants, even Zelda was crying in "Ghibli Tears" in that trailer.

Something tells me the staff at Nintendo adore Naussica, as that is the strongest comparision that I can make with BOTW to a post-apocalyptic, high fantasy Studio Ghibli movie.

Meh, it was a cool trailer for a Nintendo game but this trailer I feel epitomizes the issue with Zelda- its one step away from becoming a legitimate, dare I say meaningful example of games as art, but Nintendo always holds back- like this trailer shows great potential, but the art-style of the game combined with the inevitable E10+ rating just goes to show how Nintendo is still targeting a "kiddy" audience as opposed to the core gamer.

Imagine if this game had an aesthetic that's like a cross between Witcher and Dark Souls, with a story in which Zelda is NOT a damsel in distress, one that embraces the darker aspects of Zelda lore rather than burying it- with a darker and mature tone, this franchise could truly become something else, like the videogame equivalent of Lord of the Rings or heck, without even needing to go crazy, becoming the videogame equivalent of the Avatar cartoons.

I just feel like Nintendo devalues the artistic and emotional aspects of their games, they still seem to think of videogames as toys as opposed to an artistic medium.

Are you kidding? I much prefer this. Please Nintendo stay away from the Dark Souls or Witcher aesthetic.

You really think this game is one step away from being considered art because it doesn't depict a realistic art style? This game literally oozes art and originality. Why should we want more of the same just from Nintendo instead?

Princess Mononoke is more art than any M rated dark gritty gore fest ever made, and that's a cartoon (whose art design this game draws heavily from).

Let Dark Souls be Dark Souls, and let Zelda be Zelda.

"Darker" and "mature" doesn't make something more artistic. How do you feel about Pixar films? I sure consider them works of art with much more depth than most of your references. Nintendo falls into a similar ballpark for me. No, they don't seem always strive for a narrative as deep as Pixar, but their elegance and mastery of making games that are fun to play definitely make them artistic leaders in their medium.

Well, after watching the conference this is about the only thing I am excited for. System seller for me somehow.
