Yakuza 0. 1/24/17 Less than a month to go. Let's make a difference.

It kinda feels like this could be the most successful Yakuza game in the West so far. Maybe I'm just hyping myself up too much but that's just the vibe I'm getting. It also feels like the most attention Western outlets have ever paid to a Yakuza game.

Going from no attention at all to getting remembered by the general public is an awesome improvement.

Combat being too simple and repetitive from what I could gather with a quick read.

Honestly, the combat does start very simple and you need to go out of your way to build it up. If you go just in the main story, you probably won't see a fraction of what's possible. And unfortunately this will happen with a lot of people.

Review does make me question time spent with the game, given it calls Majima's fighting style reminiscent of Capoeira instead of how it's both called and is Breakdancing. There are passive unlocks but lots of active fighting style unlocks, from new heat moves to different combos to different dodge maneuvers. Rush for example I ended up liking a lot after upgrading because if you pair the dodging and combos well you duck and weave like a prizefighting boxer.

Can see long time Yakuza fans like shadowman16 shedding a tear reading this review! Damn Yakuza finally getting recognized!

I skim read the review. Its really well written and sums up the entire game perfectly, Jim even highlights the fact that the cat fighting mini game sucks (which is true, looking forward to the Gaf OT complaining about how shit this mini game is).

Its just great to see the game getting great reviews (bar EGM). The series deserves it, plus it helps that 0 really is that good! Looking forward to getting my copy next week, debating whether to dive back into it straight away (having already completed the Japanese copy 100%), I might finish off my Yakuza 6 playthrough (just side stuff now) and Resident Evil 7 first I think.

Putting in time and effort is a pitfall for game reviewers. Doing side-stuff is pretty essential in the series and it's sad to see anyone miss all the fun stuff you can do in the game.

Man. Y u do dis

I just feel like I wasted money on the digital version of Y5 if I don't put some time in... But this post is making me feel like buying Y0.

Play through 5 in anticipation of 6. Honestly, 0 is a better game and playing it alongside YakuzaGAF will be fun!

Kind of helps when Western gaming media no longer is completely up Xbox's ass this time 😊

Yeah... the Capoeira part was strange.

If the reviewer just went through the motions and just blazed through the main story, he/she probably suffered a lot in some battles and didn't really see most of the game.

My review should be up soon and my only complaint about the game is that using cash as experience isn't very good for the balance of the game. Some minigames will give you a lot more money than some bosses (if they even give you a cent. Yakuza bosses are cheap)

Stop making sense! (goodbye money)
My mom and pop store has the game in since yesterday, but I can get it cheaper through best buy... I may pick it up and I blame (thank) you

Watched the GB Quicklook and damn I love the story, really dense.
Not watching any more, just waiting for the download now...

But one question. If a chapter finishes, is there stuff that stays locked out? Sidequests, unlockables and the likes.

My review for everyone:
http://www.ps3brasil.com/analise/814/

95/100

Basically, it's something everyone should try at least once because of how unique it is. Crime thriller story, absurd side quests, plenty of minigames, virtual tourism, there's something for everyone in here.

Just don't understand why nobody recommanded this game to him before .

The Yakuza Train never shuts up so it's probably that he only heard us now.

Nothing stays locked. As you advance the main story there will be more minigames, side quests and other things, but older ones can be done whenever you feel like it.

Since I noticed a few people request & get them in this thread, I thought I would post this here in hopes that someone can help --

WOW guys. I really like that Yazkua Supporter tag on the avatar. Where do i get mine?

Dude is giving away 3 copies of Yakuza 0 just because he likes the game & wants others to experience it as well.

Edit - he now has the tag, thanks to whoever made that happen!

That EGM review didn't read like a 5/10 game. Writing style seemed a bit tempered so I guess the dislikes came across to me as being a lot more minor than what is reflected in the final score.

oops thought i had posted this in the review thread.

Hard mode gives enemies more health, deal more damage and makes them more aggressive and I guess a bit smarter. On normal they are too laid back for my liking. If you've ever played an action game before then I really recommend starting it on hard, then bumping the difficulty down to normal (can do this at any time from the options menu) if you have issues with the game.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess I'll try it on hard first, I just don't like Hard difficulties that just make it a slog instead of more challenging.

I've been pretty slow to get on the hype train for Yakuza 0, largely because I didn't know if I was going to have the money to pick it up, but I'm finally aboard and preordered last night. Less than a week!

Looking forward to giving this a try in the future but i have a question, not sure if its been answered but i asked in the review thread (great reviews too i am impressed!) but got no answer. Are there difficulty options or is it set in stone.

There are difficulty options.

Some people are saying that normal is actually not tough enough so it might even be smart to play on Hard for your first playthrough but it's upto you.

Other games unlocked an even harder difficulty when ending the game for subsequent playthroughs so I wouldn't be surprised if Y0 has this too.

I keep hearing about this can anyone confirm it? As someone who has played every single game in the series would it be better for me to start on hard?

I haven't played the game but judging from all I've heard in the Yakuza Community thread, I'd suggest starting on Hard.

I started Y5 on hard and I don't regret it and will do the same for this.

Though if people who have played the game can chime in, that would be dandy.
Any word on Pro improvements? Quick googling has someone saying it runs above 1080p.
No pro version. It is technically a 2 year old game now.

Runs at 1080p/60fps across the board for all PS4s.

Personally, I barely noticed a difference between Normal and Hard in Yakuza 3, 4, and 5. Even EX-Hard felt like playing on Hard.

You can change difficulty options anytime you like in the game. Just go into the options menu and change it (this option was introduced in Ishin).

This game came out well before the Pro did in Japan so no Pro enhancements unfortunately. I believe 6 has Pro support though.

6 has minor PS4 Pro support. Basically it just gets rid of the screen tearing and evens out the frame rate to a steady 30FPS. Nothing mind blowing, but no screen tearing is a big improvement for me (never saw any screen tearing in my entire run on 6).

You'll be fine on hard. If you now how the games play then its worth giving hard mode a try. Just keep in mind - you don't get health drops on hard mode in the main mission "levels" so be sure to grab some healing items from the drug store before doing main story missions. You'll be fine after you level up a bit, its mainly just for the first couple of bosses.

I'll likely be snoozing when the reviews hit, but looking forward to waking up to that sweet 95 metacritic game of the generation.

Realistically probably mid 80s

Let's make a difference! i think we're doing it. cant' wait for tuesday.

The game really is on a track to become best selling Yakuza entry, with all this hype on GAF, but especially with all those positive reviews and broad coverage.

It's funny, I didn't start this series until last summer. I ended up beating all of them and I'm still not burnt out. Hit me sega, I'm ready for the punches!

This has gone way under the radar for me!

Did not expect this game the same week as RE7. Oh well. I'm loving what I'm seeing, so I may have to bite.

Never ever played a yakuza game.
