Etrian Odyssey Community Thread: The Ongoing Adventures of Fight and Heal

Just started playing EOIV, the first game I have played in the series, I am really enjoying it.

I find the game rather difficult and I am not sure how much grinding I should do as I just got wrecked by the
bear covered in blood
. I really like making my own map.

I think there's a forced battle with one, right? Cause otherwise you're supposed to avoid them as they're tougher than most enemies on that floor. One thing that'll come in really useful are binds. If you bind their arms they would not be able to use their most powerful moves and waste turns trying. Also it'll come in very useful later.

Yeah that is the one. I have successfully avoided all the other bears (barring one *shudder*) but that one has to die.

Binding arms you say? Interesting I will give it a look.

Quick question about bursting, I just received that ability and have got the gauge all the way up to five but the menu selection is still greyed out. What's up with that?

What's your party? It'll help for giving tips.

You need to equip Burst skills on the characters before you can use them.

Yeah I worked it out!

My party is...The Tank, Warrior, Dancer, Medic and Rune master. Feels like I have covered all bases. I have heard that a sniper is great for running away.

Oh and thanks for the binding advice, that combined with blinding, really helped win against that cutter covered in blood. At least, so far since it ran away.

Every time I see this thread bumped I get sad and realise we've got a Valkyria Revolution localisation but not an Etrian Odyssey V one.

Nice to see people are still getting into the series. Maybe it was because it was my first but EO4 is still my favourite.

Yea while it is nice to have that localized, EOV ;_;

Hehehe.

Hahahaha.

AHAHAHAHAHA.

:>

The thing about EO is your party will never have all the bases covered. By design. That's part of the fun!

Not in the old games, but subclassing lets you make some really well-rounded parties.

Quite true, but a specialist will still outperform someone using subskills.

Items can help cover some holes in your party, too, though they can be quite costly early in the game before you're rolling in dough.

You don't need subclassing when you can grab a Hexer in EOII, nothing more well rounded than that!

But yeah, while parties will often be missing some kind of tool, the classes tend to be designed well enough that we can build parties that do pretty well outside of some situational things. Which is a good thing in my eyes, because if it ever went too far in the "feels like I'm missing things" direction, building parties that synergies with each other wouldn't be nearly as fun.

So it's logical for us to presume the future of Etrian Odyssey is on the Switch, no? :)

I could see 1 more game on the 3DS before it dies, but unless there's there's a very unlikely 4DS, it'll move to the Switch. What it'll be on the Switch is another thing altogether, since touch is so de-emphasised and there's no more 2nd screen.

Atlus are still making games for 3DS, hell we're potentially getting a new mainline title this year. I feel like we'll get one more EO game. Probably Untold 3.

Oh and this thread got bumped again without Etrian Odyssey V localisation news...

This keeps coming to mind everytime I see the Mario Odyseey threads.

I'm not faulting AtlusUSA on this, but it's still incredibly depressing that there's a possibility we won't see English EO5 even a year after it was launched in Japan.

Yay thought I should pop in a wish EO a happy 10th anniversary!
Got tonnes of other RPGs to play at the moment (half way through DQ7, DQ8 arriving tomorrow, still haven't played Bravely second) yet here I am replaying EO2U on classic hard mode!

Hopefully 2017 is the year we hear about EOV localisation.
I also hope EO continues, DS was perfect for it and it'll be hard to carry on without the dual screen-always present map. Lets hope they figure it out.
EO must continue!

Based Himukai~

Himukai seems to be rather fond of the Alchemist in the center by the way, as he gets featured in a surprising amount of additional material, and in the EOU2 portrait DLC is only surpassed by Shishou.

He is pretty cool. I think he's one of the necromancers in EOV too.

Quick question!

Never played any Etrian Odyssey game and I want to buy one for the 3DS, which one should I get?

Can't go wrong with either IV or Untold 2, and all the Etrian demos let you transfer all your progress to the full game. Only problem is that Untold 2's only lets you play with its story mode and not its classic mode. You could always try both to see which is more your speed, but I think IV's the better game. It's also the easiest, but that's hardly a problem for a newcomer, unless you normally play nothing but old-school Wizardry.

It's great seeing etrian games on store shelves. Almost every game store I've been to in Singapore has etrian stuff including some first print editions.

Either Untold 1 Classic Mode or IV are fine.

From a setting viewpoint Untold 1 sets the tone for pretty much the whole series, so if you care about that I'd go with it first. Mechanics-wise it's inferior to both IV and Untold 2 however.

At one point I grinded so many books in EO 3 that my Farmer had as much as my VIT Land and as much STR as my tank
I wanted to keep farming to make her 99 on all stats but I gave up

Finished up Story Mode in Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold a few days, and I'm now doing postgame with the same party.

Man, this game is so good! Standard difficulty feels just right. Not too easy, but not insanely hard like Expert. The additions to each EO entry keep these games surprisingly fresh. I love that the developers actually go above and beyond even when I least expect it!

Can't wait for EOV!
