What I really want to avoid is, like you see in some games, characters with big breasts with no back story, said Kojima
I'm thinking about the characters in MGS1-4 and there seems to be a pretty even tally of sexualized men and women in the series. 5 is just really really bad when it comes to this, but the rest of the series has had more than its fair share of man meat to go along with the T&A.This is extremely and aggressively untrue.
I haven't forgotten anything.
in the example you give it's for comedy value how is that sexualising someone? Skin tight suits actually make sense in the setting, they're for sneaking.
Women are actually sexualised in MGS games, posters of women in bikinis in lockers, watching Meryl get undressed, constant flirting with women in codecs, that stupid photo mode in MGS4 and some of the worst of it is in MGSV, Quiet is reduced to a sniper with a pair of tits.
The Boss should be what he's aiming for when writing women.
THAT EFFING SCENE!! Worst thing to ever happen in MGS.
And here I was just thinking of making a thread about whether or not we should be worried about the depiction of women in DS......Kojima's constant attempts to elevate the medium are constantly undermined by his deeply ingrained sexism as well as his misogyny.....just as a reminder, Quiet was a terribly written character from the onset, so were the BB corps, so was Paz, in terms of representation for the other gender his games have been on a constant downward spiral and it's really pathetic at this point. And thankfully, thanks to Quiet and the new gaming landscape, no one will buy the bullshit excuse that the game will even remotely justify the blatant sexism at best and misogyny at worst pre-release and everyone will call a spade a spade.
Someone needs to be hired to stand behind Kojima and smack him on the back of the head whenever he tries to talk about well written characters, or character writing in general.
That is sexualization, too. It is not a one way street.
Yeah, thankfully his original idea for The Boss didn't make the cut.

It's very true, you've forgotten the PS1/PS2 MGS's. Showing fit men in skin tight clothing (or none at all in Raiden's case) with zoomed in/awkward camera angles is a staple of the series and used for comedic effect.
The pants gotta go.

Refer to the following. And yes, the way Paz was treated was not only convoluted, but also incredibly misogynistic, yes, let's keep adding rape as a plot device for female characters, because that always works out, and then make her offer to fuck a teenage boy while in jail, (without even getting into the issue of her being older yet having a much younger appearance and thus being sexualized), followed by having the main villain rip out her organs and shove a bomb up her vagina because he's just that bad. Then let's make an incredibly voyeuristic cutscene of said bomb being ripped out with a character emphasizing that "there's no time for anesthetic." And let's put her in a ridiculous hospital gown AND make moe anime posters of her wearing seethrough shirts. Totes great writing.I'm the target audience when people like Kojima hurt the medium's already shaky representation of women I see no issue because i'm being pandered to.

Please be quiet, Kojima.
The games were pretty even until 4. And while the BB Corps were pretty bad, there was a message and a purpose behind them.Well that seals it then. Men and women are both equally sexualised in MGS games....
Well to his credit, he did make THE greatest female character in videogames.
THAT EFFING SCENE!! Worst thing to ever happen in MGS.
Nah, this is more like it imo.
Holy lol-y.Backstory is the most important. Front loaded plot can be fun and all but a nice deep backstory keeps em coming back for more.
That's one approach... or he could, ya know, not have overly sexualized women represented in his games? He knows in advance from the heat he took over Quiet, so why open DS up to the same controversy/criticism?
