Kojima: Overly sexualized women in DS will be given a “deep background story"

This is extremely and aggressively untrue.
I'm thinking about the characters in MGS1-4 and there seems to be a pretty even tally of sexualized men and women in the series. 5 is just really really bad when it comes to this, but the rest of the series has had more than its fair share of man meat to go along with the T&A.

And here I was just thinking of making a thread about whether or not we should be worried about the depiction of women in DS......Kojima's constant attempts to elevate the medium are constantly undermined by his deeply ingrained sexism as well as his misogyny.....just as a reminder, Quiet was a terribly written character from the onset, so were the BB corps, so was Paz, in terms of representation for the other gender his games have been on a constant downward spiral and it's really pathetic at this point. And thankfully, thanks to Quiet and the new gaming landscape, no one will buy the bullshit excuse that the game will even remotely justify the blatant sexism at best and misogyny at worst pre-release and everyone will call a spade a spade.

THAT EFFING SCENE!! Worst thing to ever happen in MGS.

I haven't forgotten anything.

in the example you give it's for comedy value how is that sexualising someone? Skin tight suits actually make sense in the setting, they're for sneaking.

Women are actually sexualised in MGS games, posters of women in bikinis in lockers, watching Meryl get undressed, constant flirting with women in codecs, that stupid photo mode in MGS4 and some of the worst of it is in MGSV, Quiet is reduced to a sniper with a pair of tits.

The Boss should be what he's aiming for when writing women.

That is sexualization, too. It is not a one way street.

If you're going to shamelessly pander to a specific audience just be honest about it and avoid the backlash.

Paz was not terrible character i dont what you are talking about. Kojima can make great female characters like Eva,Boss,Meryl as we already saw in years. He can make sexy characters if he wants i dont care if game is good, only thing really matters.

Someone needs to be hired to stand behind Kojima and smack him on the back of the head whenever he tries to talk about well written characters, or character writing in general.

Who is the writer? Because if it's Kojima then this statement ain't worth shit.

Also, this

Someone needs to be hired to stand behind Kojima and smack him on the back of the head whenever he tries to talk about well written characters, or character writing in general.

I think his intention all along was to make fun of of those looking for a reason other than it's sexualization for sexualization's sake.

I bet the reasons will, intentionally, be even dumber this time around.

It's very true, you've forgotten the PS1/PS2 MGS's. Showing fit men in skin tight clothing (or none at all in Raiden's case) with zoomed in/awkward camera angles is a staple of the series and used for comedic effect.

Gonna go out on a limb and say skin-tight dudes in comedic effect is nowhere near as sexualized as POV shower scenes, an automatic camera constantly ogling breasts even when the character is being tortured, a boss battle with a skin tight female with a deteriorating mind turning into a sexy photoshoot, or a walking plant make every suggestive pose in her cage or when it rains.

I'm the target audience when people like Kojima hurt the medium's already shaky representation of women I see no issue because i'm being pandered to.
Refer to the following. And yes, the way Paz was treated was not only convoluted, but also incredibly misogynistic, yes, let's keep adding rape as a plot device for female characters, because that always works out, and then make her offer to fuck a teenage boy while in jail, (without even getting into the issue of her being older yet having a much younger appearance and thus being sexualized), followed by having the main villain rip out her organs and shove a bomb up her vagina because he's just that bad. Then let's make an incredibly voyeuristic cutscene of said bomb being ripped out with a character emphasizing that "there's no time for anesthetic." And let's put her in a ridiculous hospital gown AND make moe anime posters of her wearing seethrough shirts. Totes great writing.

Man its almost like putting oversexualized women in your games gives you free publicity or something. Could he be taking advantage of fake Internet outrage? Nahhhh. That would never happen.

Why can't he just make good characters that aren't sexualised?

The perv gimmick is not cute. Hopefully Sony will step in if it becomes MGS5 levels of gross.

“What I really want to avoid is, like you see in some games, characters with big breasts with no back story,” said Kojima. “If I make characters that at first glance might look like this then they’ll have a deep background story to give a specific reason why.”

Please be quiet, Kojima.

um, yeah - kojima's at his best when he just lets his game's do the talking for him :) ...

I read that same article and that is not what I took away from that quote. As dumb as Quiets outfit was, he at least attempted to give it some thought. Maybe it could have been executed better, but the man gave us Meryl, Olga, and Fortune. Let him cook.

That's one approach... or he could, ya know, not have overly sexualized women represented in his games? He knows in advance from the heat he took over Quiet, so why open DS up to the same controversy/criticism?

It's all part of the masterplan people...what Kojima meant by "being ashamed of your words and deeds" is that ya'll are gonna be ashamed of these words and deeds right here in this thread. He'll blow everyones mind with this one and all you do is disrespect!

/s, and although I kinda understand what he was trying to do with Quiet...I hope he'll handle it better now.

Well that seals it then. Men and women are both equally sexualised in MGS games....
The games were pretty even until 4. And while the BB Corps were pretty bad, there was a message and a purpose behind them.
There's no defending Dr. Naomi and her decision to not wear a bra and perpetually keeping her lab coat open for some reason.

Probably because that 'heat' amounted to essentially nothing. concerning actual number of people and impact.
And if the man likes his sexy ladies, it's hard stopping him.
