Watched it yesterday and it was a bit better than I anticipated. I've been watching all this movies day one since 2002 too. XD

Is should be obvious by now that this is not going to be the Resident Evil movie that will change people's mind or be faithful to the games.

On its own it gives a nice closure, has some nice things and gives a good background on past events. Music is more subtle rather than the heavy/rock from previous ones. Camera work during most fight scenes was all over the place though.

Anyway, Milla been a part of this for 15 years, so that should be commended. Milla met Paul back in the first movie, and their daughter been the Red Queen in this one is kind of a full circle moment.

Also, and this is more of a easter egg...not sure if mentioned already... watch out for the Mortal Kombat Rayden bobblehead cameo. Paul W.S. Anderson directed the first MK movie back in the 90s, so it was a cool nod. :p

And yep...
I also thought this one had, while quite different contextually, some pretty cool nods to the games.

MASSIVE SPOILERS
James Marcus is in this during the prologue, and he's actually "Alice's" father. There's also a part where they're all running from Cerberus dogs that kinda felt reminiscent to the opening of the original game where Bravo team is chased into the mansion by the dogs. A similar but reverse shot of Claire waking up inside a cage reminded me of her waking up in the prison block in Code Veronica. One of the monsters in the trailer does indeed resemble a Regenerator from 4.
The thing with them running there also reminded me of that, even more when you realize they're running to were it was.

I assume that there was footage of her riding towards the camera before it failed to go up. Would be a shame if it went unused in the end after the accident. On the other hand, from what I've seen from the editing, I wouldn't be surprised if it did and just a frame was used...

I can only guess, but I would say maybe when Alice was riding through the explosions during her escape. If they did that practically, then she would blind coming out of the explosion.

Eh
Wesker is just a punk bitch, he got fights in the movies already and his death in this was preceded by humiliation, so I dug it. There's no shortage of fight scenes and the final one is pretty cool. Also Wesker has never been the main villain in this series, he's basically just a cohort to Isaacs. Wesker is a piece of shit that doesn't earn some glorified final battle or death IMO
.

This movie is basically
Alice outsmarting and punking all the assholes that caused all this shit to happen, and to me it was satisfactory to see-- if you're just looking for another shitty Wesker fight like in Afterlife, you're not finding it here lol

Prolly won't see this till it hits tv...but I am morbidly curious....Do they write themselves out of the corner when it comes to the pure INSANITY of the last movies ending?

Every time I think of the cast of Resident Evil camped up on top of the white house I laugh, I'd watch a whole cheeseball movie of just that.

It was hilarious how in the first two minutes.every one of these movies completely ditches what the ending of the last movie set up,

The Afterlife Wesker fight was the best thing in the last two movies. Should have doubled down on it.

Finished my watch through of the series before I watch The Final Chapter tomorrow. My God. Retribution is just so fucking crazy. The mayhem of that slow motion reverse opening sequence. That hallway fight scene where I think Alice punches, kicks and shoots a hundred zombies. Fucking zombie Russian soldiers with chainsaws (sometimes on fire) riding motorcycles. Alice stealing a customized BMW with neon purple underlights, which she then proceeds to drive down into a subway entrance. Clone fuckery. Shawn Roberts chewing scenery as Wesker. Then that ending. Putin titty-fucking Trump, that Washington ending.I think this might be Paul WS Anderson's masterpiece. I can't wait to see how they brush it aside in the first five minutes!

It really is hilarious. The endings never matter cause they'll be undone in the next movie before the title card.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Holy shit, Ruby Rose is a part of this!?

Prepared for saturation.

We need to get Trump into a theater so he can enact President Weskers walled plans.

Man Iain Glen as Dr. Isaacs hams this villain role up so much it's fucking unbelievable scenery chewing, there's a part
when he gets his hand cut off and in pain, and some Umbrella dudes are treating it as the camera is moving around all hazily around him and he says "ohhhhhh Jeeesus" in pain and it's fucking hilarious

I don't give a shit about run on sentences I'm drunk.

Did this movie just not have the budget that the others had? Seemed like there were way more downtime areas and very very quick camera cuts. Way more than usual. While thing seemed like a limping mess.

Film was bad. I mean I learned to enjoy the films as mindless entertainment, but this one, eehhhhhhh.

The didn't even have the decency to give me the promise of all the actors
fighting against a mass zombie invasion on the White House.
Kind of pissed about that.

Speaking of which, wow, where
was everyone else?
I suppose they just got written off or something even though it's not explained.

I liked that there were more
zombies
and well, for whatever it's worth, Alice
gets closure on a bunch of stuff.
It's the end of an era and the Final Chapter went out with a whimper.
So Wesker gets killed by a cut foot?

Ugh....
It's so lame.
They straight up just show Alice come out of a hole the white house and everything is destroyed . No one else is around and it was a trap. She still has no powers. So basicly they find the shittiest way to skip over it
BAH.

I enjoyed this more than I expected.

A lot of stupid things happen but its a stupid sci-fi action movie with some money behindit so I am okay with that. Never understood the love to Wesker so I have no problem with what happened to him. A lot of sillier stuff happened and...it is nice that the hopefully last movie in this series is over. A good send off.

Agreed with this, it was just a lot of fun. I knew what I was watching and got it but I admit that I liked the story more than I expected and I thought it has a solid ending.

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
I have only seen the first one so looks like I have some serious catching up to do. Had no idea there were so many.

Just saw it. The editing was so freaking bad. There were times where there were more than 5 cuts per second. I cannot follow anything that's going on. Maybe it's been so long since I last saw an RE film, but there's just too much reliance on loud jump scares.

This movie was ridiculous.

Did they seriously
retcon the second movie or did I miss something. The little girl is supposed to be the one Alice is cloned from? How would the dad not know when he's talking to Alice in 2. Surely he'd know if he was so high up the umbrella chain.

Also was Isaacs always so high up in Umbrella or was this a sudden change? Coz in 3 it seemed like he was just a scientist.

I dont even know anymore. We liked it but yeah, silly.

Terrible. I almost walked out (and I like the previous movies as guilty pleasures).

Action was all absolute trash. The editing makes Taken 3 seem restrained.

The Afterlife Wesker fight was the best thing in the last two movies. Should have doubled down on it.

You know they ripped off Resident Evil 5 right? And they completely fucked it up with the lamest most cringeworthy fight choreography I have ever seen.

Fuck that movie to hell. Fuck it all.

I thought it was a neat 'concluding' film. Same setups and action beats though so don't go in expecting anything new.

Now can we reboot the series with stories from the game?

My gripe was simply the cinematography..
4 and 5 were so elegant with clean shots ilustrating the fight scenes.
This felt like a step backwards where literally I had no idea what was going on..

P.S. would have also hurt to mention Chris? At least coming from Claire? Or even a Jill, León mention? Just very odd..

This was the worst of them all.

The first 30 minutes to an hour was edited like a trailer. This naturally means that fighting choreography took a nosedive. I had a headache keeping up with the action. The dialogue in Raccoon City was such a joke with three-sentence dialogue and everything.

Once the Cube Zero/Hive shit kicked in, it got a little better then became a goofy shitshow by the end. I liked some of it, like
Isaac's Sherlock moment, sipping the cognac
.

Tons of jump scares you could see coming from a mile away but they did them anyway.

Also, the film was corrupted with lots of orange and blue squares cropping up often enough. It could have been my theater though.

Aw crap...

Been trying to go through the house and find all the collectibles, but it turns out I missed the first antique coin all the way at the start of the game.

Hope I don't have to replay easy/normal just to get all the coins :(

Did you find the shotty in Dr. Isaac's tank thing?

They totally retconned Apocalypse. The little girl they saved was the model for the Red Queen. They even have a joke about it when Alice meets up with her. The T-Virus was being used to stave off a degenerative disease.

Isaacs was an important research scientist, but he most certainly wasn't the co-founder of Umbrella. He was answerable to Wesker and the board. He was even relieved of his duties right before he became Tyrant.

For such a continuity laden series, Paul WS really has no problem ripping it up whenever he feels like it. But I guess that's part of the fun of the thing.

Anyway, I just saw it. Really loved it. An absolutely fitting end to the series. Much like the others, this one has its own feel. While I wish the action was more cleanly presented, the crazy editing suited the vibe Paul WS Anderson was going for. Very gritty, frantic and apocalyptic.

Iain Glen was awesome. He absolutely chewed up the scenery with abandon. Just a very fun performance. He totally "got" the type of film he's in and went crazy.

Now some more spoilers.

It's hilarious how they completely ignored the ending of Retribution. Just chalked it all up to Wesker being a fuck head because, of course he is. The time jump worked fine. Just like it did at the beginning of Extinction. Sure, I would have liked to see that White House story, but it's really besides the point. So I have no problem at all.

Wesker going out like a chump fit. He was humiliated by being shit-canned, then had a door dropped on him. Shawn Roberts really was fun in the role. He totally hammed it up every time he was on screen.

All the clone fuckery in Retribution paid off by revealing that Alice isn't even an original herself. It gave her series long story arc a nice sense of closure.

The fights were all well done. Especially Alice and Isaac at the end. Alice not having her powers didn't matter. She was able to outsmart Isaac even though he was powered up with the same type of electronic enhancement Umbrella had used to control her.

My series rankings.

Retribution
Resident Evil
Final Chapter
Extinction
Apocalypse
Afterlife

Saw it.

The movie makes no sense and tried to hand wave or outright forgot past plot points.

Mindless action with A SHIT LOAD OF QUICK CUTS!! I thought I was going to have a seizure. The final quick cut scene LIGHT DARK LIGHT DARK I thought they might actually be trying to kill me.

Thoughts:

The beginning makes no sense. Why not just kill Alice at the end of the previous movie? Why fake give her the T-Virus, which I guess actually did but gave her no powers.....?

What happened to Jill, and Leon, and her adopted daughter?

Not going to ask Claire where her brother is?

So Umbrellas master plan was to wipe the earth clean and rebuild with 1000 people? And clones I guess? And they couldnt do this until every human is killed? Why wait for those last 4K humans?

And who were they are a corp to? 50/50 ownership? They still trading on the stock market? Why did Isaacs care? Shoot co-owner in the face.

Why didn't Wesker just seal the main door BEFORE Alice got there? Why didn't the dogs enter? Why didnt the laser grid go full net again?

Why did Alice kill the cryoed 1K employees? When there is 5K humans left why kill off 1K of them? They are scientists etc might want their help in the new era.

The anti-gen gonna spread via the wind? LOL Also 10 years earlier they nuked the city, hows that nuclear fallout going?

A problem with the movies in general, as far as has been said around is that each was shot as its own thing.

Because noone was signed for multiple movies, it all depended on getting the approval to make a new movie, checking around to see who was avaialable and try to make a story/script out of that before filming.

Of course, since Milla and Paul are married, Paul knew Milla's schedule better than anyone. To the point that even the filming of this movie was delayed a year, because of her pregnancy. Back then, they did had a premise on what to do to follow Retribution, which was a direct continuation with Ada, Leon, etc. but the pregnancy voided all that.

Motherhood was a reason for a few actress to miss some of the movies like Sienna Guillory (Jill) and Ali Larter (Claire). And seems Paul didn't wanted to recast anyone, because then we might have ended with multiple actors playing Jill, Claire, etc. to the point that he just wrote them off.

Which was a problem in all the movies, because they never explained what happened to the characters in that time frame. The parts weren't recast, so is was like he was afraid about killing them or having someone mention their whereabouts; because that would open then other situations in the case they do return later. I guess he even introduced the concept of clones for that reason, just in case someone like (random example, not a spoiler) Chris could return from the unknown as evil or whatever in case Wenthworth Miller got some time to film (since he was busy with Legends of Tomorrow and Prison Break).

The dissapearances in this are brushed aside. They're not mentioned to be dead, just that it was a trap. Heck they are as dead as Wesker thought Alice was. Same way Claire alludes to Chris (and K-mart) by just saying that they got abducted and she was saved by Doc.

That doesn't excuse the many retcons or the many problems, but that in a way I got the reasoning behind some of the ommisions and decisions.

Wow, those gifs. I guess I should watch some of these gems. I only saw the first and made sure to wipe my memory of it afterwards.
